1 Lè sa a, Jan Batis parèt nan dezè Jide a. Li t’ap mache bay mesaj sa a.
2 Li t’ap di: Tounen vin jwenn Bondye. Paske, Bondye ki wa nan syèl la ap vin pran pouvwa a nan men l’.
3 Se sou Jan pwofèt Ezayi t’ap pale lè l’ te di: Se vwa yon nonm k’ap rele nan dezè a: Pare gran wout Seyè nou an. Plani chemen an byen plani pou li.
4 Jan te gen yon rad fèt ak pwal chamo sou li, li te mare ren l’ ak yon sentiwon an po. Li te manje krikèt ak gato myèl li te jwenn nan bwa.
5 Moun soti lavil Jerizalèm, nan tout peyi Jide a ak nan tout vwazinaj larivyè Jouden an, yo tout te vin jwenn Jan.
6 Yo te konfese peche yo devan tout moun. Apre sa, Jan te batize yo nan larivyè Jouden an.
7 Lè Jan wè te gen anpil farizyen ak sadiseyen ki t’ap vin jwenn li pou resevwa batèm nan men l’, li di yo: Bann vèmen! Ki moun ki fè nou konnen nou kapab chape anba kòlè Bondye k’ap vini an?
8 Fè bagay ki pou fè wè lavi nou chanje tout bon.
9 Pa konprann nou ka di nan kè nou: Se pitit pitit Abraram nou ye. Paske, mwen p’ap kache di nou sa: Bondye kapab pran wòch sa yo, li fè yo tounen pitit pou Abraram.
10 Epitou, rach la tou pare pou koupe rasin pyebwa yo. Nenpòt pyebwa ki pa bay bon donn, yo pral koupe sa jete nan dife.
11 Mwen menm, mwen batize nou nan dlo, pou fè wè nou tounen vin jwenn Bondye. Men, moun k’ap vin apre mwen an gen plis pouvwa anpil pase m’. Mwen pa bon ase menm pou m’ ta wete sapat ki nan pye li. Se li menm ki va batize nou nan Sentespri ak nan dife.
12 Li gen laye l’ nan men li. L’ap vannen tout grenn ki sou glasi a. La ranmase grenn ki bon yo, la mete yo nan galata li; men, l’ap boule pay la nan yon dife ki p’ap janm mouri.
13 Lè sa a, Jezi soti nan peyi Galile, li vin larivyè Jouden, bò kote Jan pou Jan batize li.
14 Men, Jan pa t’ dakò pou sa menm. Li di l’: Se ou ki pou ta batize m’, epi se ou menm ki vin jwenn mwen pou m’ batize ou?
15 Jezi reponn li: Kite sa fèt konsa koulye a. Se konsa pou nou fè tou sa Bondye mande. Jan pa t’ kenbe tèt avè l’ ankò.
16 Fini Jan fin batize l’, Jezi soti nan dlo a. Menm lè a, syèl la louvri, Jezi wè Lespri Bondye a desann sou fòm yon ti pijon vin sou li.
17 Lè sa a, yon vwa soti nan syèl la, li di: Sa se pitit mwen renmen anpil la. Li fè kè m’ kontan anpil.

1 En ce temps-là parut Jean Baptiste, prêchant dans le désert de Judée.
2 Il disait: Repentez-vous, car le royaume des cieux est proche.
3 Jean est celui qui avait été annoncé par Ésaïe, le prophète, lorsqu’il dit: C’est ici la voix de celui qui crie dans le désert: Préparez le chemin du Seigneur, Aplanissez ses sentiers.
4 Jean avait un vêtement de poils de chameau, et une ceinture de cuir autour des reins. Il se nourrissait de sauterelles et de miel sauvage.
5 Les habitants de Jérusalem, de toute la Judée et de tout le pays des environs du Jourdain, se rendaient auprès de lui;
6 et, confessant leurs péchés, ils se faisaient baptiser par lui dans le fleuve du Jourdain.
7 Mais, voyant venir à son baptême beaucoup de pharisiens et de sadducéens, il leur dit: Races de vipères, qui vous a appris à fuir la colère à venir?
8 Produisez donc du fruit digne de la repentance,
9 et ne prétendez pas dire en vous-mêmes: Nous avons Abraham pour père! Car je vous déclare que de ces pierres-ci Dieu peut susciter des enfants à Abraham.
10 Déjà la cognée est mise à la racine des arbres: tout arbre donc qui ne produit pas de bons fruits sera coupé et jeté au feu.
11 Moi, je vous baptise d’eau, pour vous amener à la repentance; mais celui qui vient après moi est plus puissant que moi, et je ne suis pas digne de porter ses souliers. Lui, il vous baptisera du Saint Esprit et de feu.
12 Il a son van à la main; il nettoiera son aire, et il amassera son blé dans le grenier, mais il brûlera la paille dans un feu qui ne s’éteint point.
13 Alors Jésus vint de la Galilée au Jourdain vers Jean, pour être baptisé par lui.
14 Mais Jean s’y opposait, en disant: C’est moi qui ai besoin d’être baptisé par toi, et tu viens à moi!
15 Jésus lui répondit: Laisse faire maintenant, car il est convenable que nous accomplissions ainsi tout ce qui est juste. Et Jean ne lui résista plus.
16 Dès que Jésus eut été baptisé, il sortit de l’eau. Et voici, les cieux s’ouvrirent, et il vit l’Esprit de Dieu descendre comme une colombe et venir sur lui.
17 Et voici, une voix fit entendre des cieux ces paroles: Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé, en qui j’ai mis toute mon affection.

1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
4 And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
