1 Yon jou, pwofèt yo di Elize konsa: –Gade, kote n’ap viv avè ou la vin twò piti pou nou.
2 Kite n’ ale larivyè Jouden an. Nou chak va koupe yon madriye, n’a bati yon kay la pou nou ka viv. Elize reponn: –Ale non!
3 Yonn nan pwofèt yo mande l’: –Tanpri, mèt, ann al avè nou non! Li di: –Dakò.
4 Li pati ak yo. Lè yo rive bò larivyè Jouden an, yo tanmen koupe bwa.
5 Yonn ladan yo t’ap koupe yon madriye lè rach la soti nan manch li, li tonbe nan dlo a. Li pran rele: –Mèt, mèt! Sa m’ pral fè la a? Se prete yo te prete m’ rach la wi!
6 Elize mande l’: –Kote rach la tonbe la a? Li moutre l’ kote a. Elize kase yon moso bwa, li voye l’ nan dlo a. Rach la moute anwo dlo a.
7 Elize di l’: –Wete l’ nan dlo a. Pwofèt la lonje men l’, li pran rach la.
8 Wa peyi Siri a t’ap fè lagè ak peyi Izrayèl la. Li reyini chèf li yo, li di yo ki kote li pral moute kan lame a.
9 Men, Elize voye avèti wa peyi Izrayèl la pou l’ pa pwoche bò tèl kote, paske lame peyi Siri a desann la ap tann li.
10 Se konsa wa peyi Izrayèl la voye yon mesaje al avèti moun ki nan zòn Elize te di l’ la pou yo rete sou prigad yo. Sa rive plizyè fwa.
11 Sa te boulvèse wa peyi Siri a anpil. Li rele chèf li yo, li di yo: –Manyè di m’ kilès nan nou la a ki pou wa peyi Izrayèl la?
12 Yonn nan chèf yo reponn: –Pesonn, monwa. Men se Elize, pwofèt ki nan peyi Izrayèl la, k’ap fè wa peyi Izrayèl la konnen tou sa ou di, ata sa ou di anndan chanm ou.
13 Wa peyi Siri a di: –Chache konnen kote Elize sa a ye pou m’ voye pran l’: Yo vin di li Elize te lavil Dotan.
14 Li voye yon gwo lame ak anpil chwal ak cha lagè dèyè l’. Yo rive Dotan solèy kouche, yo sènen lavil la.
15 Nan denmen maten, domestik pwofèt la leve byen bonè, li soti. Li wè te gen yon gwo lame ki te sènen tout lavil la ak anpil chwal ak anpil cha lagè. Lamenm, l’ al di Elize: –Mèt, mèt, malè sou nou! Kisa nou pral fè la a?
16 Elize reponn li: –Ou pa bezwen pè! Nou gen plis moun avèk nou pase yo.
17 Lèfini, Elize lapriyè Seyè a, li di: –Seyè, tanpri louvri je l’ pou l’ wè! Seyè a louvri je domestik la. Domestik la wè tout mòn lan te kouvri ak flanm dife an fòm kavalye ak cha lagè bò kote Elize.
18 Lè sòlda peyi Siri yo atake, Elize lapriyè ankò, li di: –Seyè, fè sòlda sa yo pa wè nan je yo! Seyè a fè sòlda peyi Siri yo pa wè nan je yo, jan Elize te mande l’ la.
19 Lèfini, Elize al jwenn yo, li di yo: –Se pa chemen an sa, ni se pa lavil n’ap chache a sa. Swiv mwen, m’a mennen nou kote moun n’ap chache a ye. Li mennen yo lavil Samari.
20 Rive yo rive la, Elize lapriyè ankò, li di: –Seyè, louvri je yo pou yo wè! Seyè a louvri je yo. Yo wè yo te nan mitan lavil Samari.
21 Lè wa peyi Izrayèl la wè sòlda peyi Siri yo, li mande Elize: –Touye yo, papa mwen? Touye yo?
22 Elize reponn li: –Non. Pa touye yo. Ou janm touye moun ou fè prizonye lè w’ap goumen ak nepe epi ak banza? Ba yo manje, ba yo bwè, Lèfini, kite yo tounen al jwenn mèt yo!
23 Se konsa, wa a fè yon gwo resepsyon pou yo. Yo manje, yo bwè. Lèfini, wa a voye yo ale jwenn mèt yo. Depi lè sa a, sòlda peyi Siri yo sispann anvayi peyi Izrayèl la.
24 Kèk tan apre sa, Bennadad, wa peyi Siri a, sanble tout lame li, li moute vin atake peyi Izrayèl. Li sènen lavil Samari.
25 Se konsa, yon sèl grangou t’ap bat moun nan lavil la. Lènmi pa t’ bay ankenn chans pou moun antre soti. Lè sa a yon tèt bourik te koute katreven pyès ajan, yon demi liv kaka pijon te koute senk pyès ajan.
26 Yon jou, wa peyi Izrayèl la t’ap pase sou miray lavil la, yon madanm pran rele: –Monwa, monwa, fè kichòy pou mwen non!
27 Wa a reponn: –Si Seyè a pa ka fè anyen pou ou, kisa mwen menm, mwen ka fè pou ou. Kisa ou vle m’ ba ou: farin osinon diven?
28 Sa ou genyen? Madanm lan reponn: –Lòt jou, madanm sa ou wè la a vin di m’ pou mwen bay pitit pa m’ lan pou nou manje jou sa a, nan denmen n’a manje pitit pa l’ la.
29 Se konsa nou kwit pitit pa m’ lan, nou manje l’. Nan denmen, mwen di l’ pou li bay pitit pa l’ la pou nou manje, men li sere l’.
30 Lè wa a tande sa madanm lan di l’ la, li chire rad sou li sitèlman li te fache. Moun ki te toupre miray la te ka wè wa a te gen yon rad sak anba rad li.
31 Wa a pale byen fò, li di: –Se pou Bondye ban m’ pi gwo chatiman ki genyen si anvan jounen an fini, yo pa koupe tèt Elize, pitit Safa a!
32 Wa a voye yon mesaje al chache Elize. Lè sa a, Elize te chita lakay li ak kèk chèf fanmi ki t’ap vizite l’. Men, anvan mesaje wa a gen tan rive, Elize di chèf fanmi yo: –Gade, Ansasen an voye yon moun pou touye m’. Men sa n’ap fè. Lè mesaje wa a va rive, fèmen pòt la sou li. Pa kite l’ antre. Wa a pye pou pye dèyè l’.
33 Elize pankò fèmen bouch li, lè wa a rive devan l’. Wa a di l’ konsa: –Se Seyè a ki voye malè sa a sou nou! Sa m’ bezwen rete ap tann li fè kichòy pou nou ankò?

1 Les fils des prophètes dirent à Élisée: Voici, le lieu où nous sommes assis devant toi est trop étroit pour nous.
2 Allons jusqu’au Jourdain; nous prendrons là chacun une poutre, et nous nous y ferons un lieu d’habitation. Élisée répondit: Allez.
3 Et l’un d’eux dit: Consens à venir avec tes serviteurs. Il répondit: J’irai.
4 Il partit donc avec eux. Arrivés au Jourdain, ils coupèrent du bois.
5 Et comme l’un d’eux abattait une poutre, le fer tomba dans l’eau. Il s’écria: Ah! mon seigneur, il était emprunté!
6 L’homme de Dieu dit: Où est-il tombé? Et il lui montra la place. Alors Élisée coupa un morceau de bois, le jeta à la même place, et fit surnager le fer.
7 Puis il dit: Enlève-le! Et il avança la main, et le prit.
8 Le roi de Syrie était en guerre avec Israël, et, dans un conseil qu’il tint avec ses serviteurs, il dit: Mon camp sera dans un tel lieu.
9 Mais l’homme de Dieu fit dire au roi d’Israël: Garde-toi de passer dans ce lieu, car les Syriens y descendent.
10 Et le roi d’Israël envoya des gens, pour s’y tenir en observation, vers le lieu que lui avait mentionné et signalé l’homme de Dieu. Cela arriva non pas une fois ni deux fois.
11 Le roi de Syrie en eut le coeur agité; il appela ses serviteurs, et leur dit: Ne voulez-vous pas me déclarer lequel de nous est pour le roi d’Israël?
12 L’un de ses serviteurs répondit: Personne! ô roi mon seigneur; mais Élisée, le prophète, qui est en Israël, rapporte au roi d’Israël les paroles que tu prononces dans ta chambre à coucher.
13 Et le roi dit: Allez et voyez où il est, et je le ferai prendre. On vint lui dire: Voici, il est à Dothan.
14 Il y envoya des chevaux, des chars et une forte troupe, qui arrivèrent de nuit et qui enveloppèrent la ville.
15 Le serviteur de l’homme de Dieu se leva de bon matin et sortit; et voici, une troupe entourait la ville, avec des chevaux et des chars. Et le serviteur dit à l’homme de Dieu: Ah! mon seigneur, comment ferons-nous?
16 Il répondit: Ne crains point, car ceux qui sont avec nous sont en plus grand nombre que ceux qui sont avec eux.
17 Élisée pria, et dit: Éternel, ouvre ses yeux, pour qu’il voie. Et l’Éternel ouvrit les yeux du serviteur, qui vit la montagne pleine de chevaux et de chars de feu autour d’Élisée.
18 Les Syriens descendirent vers Élisée. Il adressa alors cette prière à l’Éternel: Daigne frapper d’aveuglement cette nation! Et l’Éternel les frappa d’aveuglement, selon la parole d’Élisée.
19 Élisée leur dit: Ce n’est pas ici le chemin, et ce n’est pas ici la ville; suivez-moi, et je vous conduirai vers l’homme que vous cherchez. Et il les conduisit à Samarie.
20 Lorsqu’ils furent entrés dans Samarie, Élisée dit: Éternel, ouvre les yeux de ces gens, pour qu’ils voient! Et l’Éternel ouvrit leurs yeux, et ils virent qu’ils étaient au milieu de Samarie.
21 Le roi d’Israël, en les voyant, dit à Élisée: Frapperai-je, frapperai-je, mon père?
22 Tu ne frapperas point, répondit Élisée; est-ce que tu frappes ceux que tu fais prisonniers avec ton épée et avec ton arc? Donne-leur du pain et de l’eau, afin qu’ils mangent et boivent; et qu’ils s’en aillent ensuite vers leur maître.
23 Le roi d’Israël leur fit servir un grand repas, et ils mangèrent et burent; puis il les renvoya, et ils s’en allèrent vers leur maître. Et les troupes des Syriens ne revinrent plus sur le territoire d’Israël.
24 Après cela, Ben Hadad, roi de Syrie, ayant rassemblé toute son armée, monta et assiégea Samarie.
25 Il y eut une grande famine dans Samarie; et ils la serrèrent tellement qu’une tête d’âne valait quatre-vingts sicles d’argent, et le quart d’un kab de fiente de pigeon cinq sicles d’argent.
26 Et comme le roi passait sur la muraille, une femme lui cria: Sauve-moi, ô roi, mon seigneur!
27 Il répondit: Si l’Éternel ne te sauve pas, avec quoi te sauverais-je? avec le produit de l’aire ou du pressoir?
28 Et le roi lui dit: Qu’as-tu? Elle répondit: Cette femme-là m’a dit: Donne ton fils! nous le mangerons aujourd’hui, et demain nous mangerons mon fils.
29 Nous avons fait cuire mon fils, et nous l’avons mangé. Et le jour suivant, je lui ai dit: Donne ton fils, et nous le mangerons. Mais elle a caché son fils.
30 Lorsque le roi entendit les paroles de cette femme, il déchira ses vêtements, en passant sur la muraille; et le peuple vit qu’il avait en dedans un sac sur son corps.
31 Le roi dit: Que Dieu me punisse dans toute sa rigueur, si la tête d’Élisée, fils de Schaphath, reste aujourd’hui sur lui!
32 Or Élisée était dans sa maison, et les anciens étaient assis auprès de lui. Le roi envoya quelqu’un devant lui. Mais avant que le messager soit arrivé, Élisée dit aux anciens: Voyez-vous que ce fils d’assassin envoie quelqu’un pour m’ôter la tête? Écoutez! quand le messager viendra, fermez la porte, et repoussez-le avec la porte: le bruit des pas de son maître ne se fait-il pas entendre derrière lui?
33 Il leur parlait encore, et déjà le messager était descendu vers lui, et disait: Voici, ce mal vient de l’Éternel; qu’ai-je à espérer encore de l’Éternel?

1 And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.
2 Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.
3 And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.
4 So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.
5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.
6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.
7 Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.
8 Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.
9 And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.
10 And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.
11 Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?
12 And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.
13 And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.
14 Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.
15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
19 And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.
20 And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, Lord, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.
21 And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?
22 And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
23 And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.
24 And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.
25 And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass’s head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.
26 And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.
27 And he said, If the Lord do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?
28 And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.
29 So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.
30 And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.
31 Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.
32 But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?
33 And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the Lord; what should I wait for the Lord any longer?
