Pwovèb 17
1 Pito ou manje yon grenn bannann chèch ak kè poze pase pou ou fè gwo fèt nan mitan dezagreman.
2 Yon esklav ki gen konprann va chèf sou yon pitit ki fè papa l’ wont. L’a jwenn pa l’ nan eritaj papa a tankou tout pitit.
3 Se dife sèl ki ka fè ou konnen si lò osinon ajan ou genyen an se bon kalite. Konsa tou, se Seyè a sèl ki konnen sa ki nan kè moun.
4 Mechan yo toujou prèt pou koute moun k’ap di move pawòl. Zòrèy mantò yo toujou louvri pou koute moun k’ap bay manti.
5 Lè w’ap pase yon pòv malere nan betiz, se Bondye ki fè l’ la w’ap derespekte. Moun ki kontan lè malè rive yon lòt, Bondye ap pini l’.
6 Pitit pitit se rekonpans granmoun. Manman ak papa se kontantman pitit.
7 Yon moun sòt pa ka di anyen ki bon. Konsa tou, yon moun serye pa nan bay manti.
8 Moun ki sèvi ak lajan pou pran tèt moun konprann lajan se wanga. Yo kwè se pou yo reyisi nan tou sa y’ap fè.
9 Si ou vle moun renmen ou, padonnen lè yo fè ou mal. Si w’ap mache repete bagay moun fè ki mal, w’ap mete zanmi dozado.
10 Lè ou fè yon moun ki gen konprann repwòch, sa touche kè l’. Men, ata san kout baton p’ap chanje yon moun sòt.
11 Mechan toujou ap fè rebelyon, men y’a voye yon sanmanman regle avè l’.
12 Pito ou kontre ak yon manman lous k’ap chache pitit li pase pou ou tonbe sou yon moun fou foli moute.
13 Si ou aji mal avèk moun ki fè ou byen, malè ap toujou rive lakay ou.
14 Lè yon kont pete, se tankou dlo ki kase dig kannal. Anvan batay mete pye, chape kò ou.
15 Se de kalite moun Seyè a pa ka sipòte: moun k’ap kondannen inonsan ak moun k’ap pran pou mechan yo.
16 Yon moun sòt te mèt gen kont lajan nan men l’, li p’ap janm ka gen konesans. Li pa gen konprann.
17 Yon bon zanmi p’ap janm trayi. Jou malè l’ap tankou yon frè pou ou.
18 Fòk yon moun pèdi tèt li nèt pou l’ garanti dèt yon lòt moun.
19 Moun ki renmen chache kont renmen fè sa ki mal. Moun k’ap pale avèk awogans, se moun k’ap mache ak sèkèy yo anba bra yo.
20 Yon moun ki pa gen bon lide nan tèt li p’ap janm gen kè kontan. Moun ki gen move lang ap toujou nan traka.
21 Se lapenn pou yon papa ki fè yon pitit ki san konprann. Papa yon pitit sòt p’ap janm gen kè kontan.
22 Kè kontan bay lasante. Men, lè ou kagou, w’ap deperi sou pye.
23 Malveyan pran lajan nan men moun pou enpoze jistis fèt.
24 Yon moun ki gen bon konprann toujou ap chache konesans. Men, moun sòt pa konn sa li vle.
25 Yon timoun ki san konprann, se chagren pou papa l’, se gwo lapenn pou manman l’ ki fè l’.
26 Se pa jistis pou inonsan peye pou koupab. Pa gen jistis lè yo bat moun ki pa fè mal.
27 Moun ki gen konesans pa nan pale anpil. Moun ki rete dousman se moun ki gen konprann.
28 Moun ki gen lespri pa janm cho pou pale. Men moun sòt, lè yo rete ak bouch yo fèmen, yo pase pou moun ki gen konprann.

Proverbes 17
1 Mieux vaut un morceau de pain sec, avec la paix, Qu’une maison pleine de viandes, avec des querelles.
2 Un serviteur prudent domine sur le fils qui fait honte, Et il aura part à l’héritage au milieu des frères.
3 Le creuset est pour l’argent, et le fourneau pour l’or; Mais celui qui éprouve les coeurs, c’est l’Éternel.
4 Le méchant est attentif à la lèvre inique, Le menteur prête l’oreille à la langue pernicieuse.
5 Celui qui se moque du pauvre outrage celui qui l’a fait; Celui qui se réjouit d’un malheur ne restera pas impuni.
6 Les enfants des enfants sont la couronne des vieillards, Et les pères sont la gloire de leurs enfants.
7 Les paroles distinguées ne conviennent pas à un insensé; Combien moins à un noble les paroles mensongères!
8 Les présents sont une pierre précieuse aux yeux de qui en reçoit; De quelque côté qu’ils se tournes, ils ont du succès.
9 Celui qui couvre une faute cherche l’amour, Et celui qui la rappelle dans ses discours divise les amis.
10 Une réprimande fait plus d’impression sur l’homme intelligent Que cent coups sur l’insensé.
11 Le méchant ne cherche que révolte, Mais un messager cruel sera envoyé contre lui.
12 Rencontre une ourse privée de ses petits, Plutôt qu’un insensé pendant sa folie.
13 De celui qui rend le mal pour le bien Le mal ne quittera point la maison.
14 Commencer une querelle, c’est ouvrir une digue; Avant que la dispute s’anime, retire-toi.
15 Celui qui absout le coupable et celui qui condamne le juste Sont tous deux en abomination à l’Éternel.
16 A quoi sert l’argent dans la main de l’insensé? A acheter la sagesse?… Mais il n’a point de sens.
17 L’ami aime en tout temps, Et dans le malheur il se montre un frère.
18 L’homme dépourvu de sens prend des engagements, Il cautionne son prochain.
19 Celui qui aime les querelles aime le péché; Celui qui élève sa porte cherche la ruine.
20 Un coeur faux ne trouve pas le bonheur, Et celui dont la langue est perverse tombe dans le malheur.
21 Celui qui donne naissance à un insensé aura du chagrin; Le père d’un fou ne peut pas se réjouir.
22 Un coeur joyeux est un bon remède, Mais un esprit abattu dessèche les os.
23 Le méchant accepte en secret des présents, Pour pervertir les voies de la justice.
24 La sagesse est en face de l’homme intelligent, Mais les yeux de l’insensé sont à l’extrémité de la terre.
25 Un fils insensé fait le chagrin de son père, Et l’amertume de celle qui l’a enfanté.
26 Il n’est pas bon de condamner le juste à une amende, Ni de frapper les nobles à cause de leur droiture.
27 Celui qui retient ses paroles connaît la science, Et celui qui a l’esprit calme est un homme intelligent.
28 L’insensé même, quand il se tait, passe pour sage; Celui qui ferme ses lèvres est un homme intelligent.

Proverbs 17
1 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.
2 A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord trieth the hearts.
4 A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.
5 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.
6 Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
7 Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.
8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
10 A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.
11 An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
13 Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14 The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.
15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.
16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?
17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
18 A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.
19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
20 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.
21 He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.
22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
23 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.
24 Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.
26 Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.
27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
