1 Yon jou, Seyè a move sou pèp Izrayèl la ankò. Li fè David lakòz malè tonbe sou yo. Seyè a di David al konte konbe moun ki nan peyi Izrayèl ak nan peyi Jida.
2 Wa a pale ak Joab, kòmandman an chèf lame a, ki te la avè l’, li di l’ konsa: -Ale nan tout branch fanmi Izrayèl yo, depi lavil Dann nan nò jouk lavil Bètcheba nan sid. Konte mezi moun ki nan pèp la. Mwen vle konnen konbe moun ki gen nan peyi a.
3 Men, Joab di wa a: -Monwa, mwen mande Seyè a, Bondye ou la, pou li fè pèp Izrayèl la vin san fwa pi plis pase jan li ye koulye a, lèfini pou monwa ka viv lontan pou wè sa! Men, poukisa, monwa, ou vle konte konbe moun ki nan peyi a?
4 Men, wa a pa t’ soti pou li chanje lòd li te bay la. Konsa, Joab ak lòt gwo chèf lame yo te blije soumèt yo. Yo soti devan wa a, yo pati, y’ al konte konbe moun ki nan peyi Izrayèl la.
5 Yo travèse larivyè Jouden, y’ al moute kan yo lavil Awoyè, nan mitan fon an, nan pòsyon tè ki pou branch fanmi Gad la. Apre sa, yo pati pou Jazè bò nan nò.
6 Y’ al lavil Galarad, yo pase lavil Kadès nan pòsyon tè ki pou moun Et yo, jouk yo rive Dann. Yo mache nan tout zòn lan, apre sa y’ ale lavil Sidon sou bò lwès.
7 Lèfini, yo desann nan direksyon sid, yo rive nan Fò Tir la, yo pase nan tout bouk moun Iva yo ak bouk moun Kanaran yo, yo rive Bècheba nan zòn Negèv nan peyi Jida a.
8 Se konsa yo mache nan tout peyi a. Apre nèf mwa ven jou, yo tounen lavil Jerizalèm.
9 Joab renmèt wa a rapò ki bay kantite moun antou ki te gen nan tout peyi a. Se konsa yo te jwenn witsanmil (800.000) gason ki ka fè lagè epi ki konn sèvi ak nepe nan peyi Izrayèl la ak senksanmil (500.000) nan peyi Jida a.
10 Lè David fin fè konte konbe moun ki gen nan peyi a, konsyans li konmanse repwoche l’. Li di Seyè a: -Lè m’ fè sa m’ fè a, mwen fè yon gwo peche. Tanpri, Seyè, padonnen m’, se sèvitè ou mwen ye. Mwen te aji tankou moun fou.
11 Nan denmen maten, antan David ap leve sot nan kabann li,
12 Seyè a pale ak pwofèt Gad, konseye David la, li di l’ konsa: -Al di David mwen ba li twa chatiman pou li menm li chwazi yonn ladan yo. Sa l’a chwazi a se sa m’a fè l’.
13 Gad vin jwenn li lakay li. Li fè l’ konnen mesaj Seyè a te ba li a. Li di l’ konsa: -Kisa ou vle? Sèt lanne grangou nan tout peyi a, twa mwa ap kouri devan lènmi ou, osinon twa jou epidemi nan tout peyi a. Al kalkile sou sa pou ou fè m’ konnen ki repons pou m’ pote bay moun ki voye m’ lan.
14 David reponn: -Mwen nan gwo tèt chaje! Men, m’ pa vle tonbe anba men lèzòm menm! Pito se Seyè a menm ki pini m’, paske li gen bon kè.
15 Se konsa Seyè a voye yon epidemi sou pèp Izrayèl la, li konmanse menm jou maten sa a pou twa jou, jan l’ te di a. Depi lavil Dann nan nò rive lavil Bètcheba nan sid peyi a, swasanndimil (70.000) moun nan pèp Izrayèl la mouri.
16 Lè zanj Seyè a te prèt pou lonje men l’ sou lavil Jerizalèm pou detwi l’, Seyè a fè lide sispann chatiman an. Li di zanj ki t’ap touye moun yo: -Sispann! kenbe men ou! Lè sa a, zanj lan te gen tan toupre gwo glasi Araounak, moun lavil Jebis la.
17 David wè zanj lan ki t’ap touye moun yo, li pale ak Seyè a, li di l’ konsa: -Se mwen menm ki koupab. Se mwen menm ki fè sa ki mal la. Kisa inonsan sa yo fè? Tanpri, se mwen menm ansanm ak fanmi mwen pou ou ta pini!
18 Men, jou sa a pwofèt Gad al jwenn David, li di l’ konsa: -Moute lakay Araounak, moun lavil Jebis la, bati yon lotèl pou Seyè a nan mitan gwo glasi a.
19 David koute sa Gad te di l’ la, li moute lakay Araounak jan Seyè a te ba li lòd la.
20 Araounak t’ap gade, li wè wa a ki t’ap vin sou li ansanm ak chèf li yo. Li tonbe ajenou devan wa a, li bese tèt li jouk atè.
21 Li di l’ konsa: -Monwa, sa ki mennen ou isit lakay mwen? David reponn li: -Mwen vin achte anplasman glasi a pou m’ bati yon lotèl pou Seyè a, konsa epidemi an va sispann nan peyi a.
22 Araounak di l’ konsa: -Monwa, ou mèt pran l’. Ofri Seyè a sa ou vle. Men bèf sa yo pou ou boule nèt tankou yon ofrann sou lotèl la. Men jouk yo ak bwa kabwa yo pou fè dife.
23 Araounak bay wa a tout bagay sa yo. Lèfini, li di: -Mwen mande Bondye pou l’ asepte ofrann ou an!
24 Men wa a reponn li, li di l’: -Non. Se achte m’ap achte. Se pou m’ peye pou yo. Mwen p’ap pran anyen ki pa koute m’ lajan pou m’ ofri pou boule nèt pou Seyè a. Se konsa, David achte anplasman glasi a ansanm ak tout bèf yo pou senkant pyès ajan.
25 Lèfini, li bati yon lotèl pou Seyè a, li fè ofrann pou boule nèt pou Bondye ak ofrann pou di Bondye mèsi. Seyè a tande lapriyè yo pou peyi a. Epidemi an sispann nan peyi Izrayèl la.

1 La colère de l’Éternel s’enflamma de nouveau contre Israël, et il excita David contre eux, en disant: Va, fais le dénombrement d’Israël et de Juda.
2 Et le roi dit à Joab, qui était chef de l’armée et qui se trouvait près de lui: Parcours toutes les tribus d’Israël, depuis Dan jusqu’à Beer Schéba; qu’on fasse le dénombrement du peuple, et que je sache à combien il s’élève.
3 Joab dit au roi: Que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, rende le peuple cent fois plus nombreux, et que les yeux du roi mon seigneur le voient! Mais pourquoi le roi mon seigneur veut-il faire cela?
4 Le roi persista dans l’ordre qu’il donnait à Joab et aux chefs de l’armée; et Joab et les chefs de l’armée quittèrent le roi pour faire le dénombrement du peuple d’Israël.
5 Ils passèrent le Jourdain, et ils campèrent à Aroër, à droite de la ville qui est au milieu de la vallée de Gad, et près de Jaezer.
6 Ils allèrent en Galaad et dans le pays de Thachthim Hodschi. Ils allèrent à Dan Jaan, et aux environs de Sidon.
7 Ils allèrent à la forteresse de Tyr, et dans toutes les villes des Héviens et des Cananéens. Ils terminèrent par le midi de Juda, à Beer Schéba.
8 Ils parcoururent ainsi tout le pays, et ils arrivèrent à Jérusalem au bout de neuf mois et vingt jours.
9 Joab remit au roi le rôle du dénombrement du peuple: il y avait en Israël huit cent mille hommes de guerre tirant l’épée, et en Juda cinq cent mille hommes.
10 David sentit battre son coeur, après qu’il eut ainsi fait le dénombrement du peuple. Et il dit à l’Éternel: J’ai commis un grand péché en faisant cela! Maintenant, ô Éternel, daigne pardonner l’iniquité de ton serviteur, car j’ai complètement agi en insensé!
11 Le lendemain, quand David se leva, la parole de l’Éternel fut ainsi adressée à Gad le prophète, le voyant de David:
12 Va dire à David: Ainsi parle l’Éternel: Je te propose trois fléaux; choisis-en un, et je t’en frapperai.
13 Gad alla vers David, et lui fit connaître la chose, en disant: Veux-tu sept années de famine dans ton pays, ou bien trois mois de fuite devant tes ennemis qui te poursuivront, ou bien trois jours de peste dans ton pays? Maintenant choisis, et vois ce que je dois répondre à celui qui m’envoie.
14 David répondit à Gad: Je suis dans une grande angoisse! Oh! tombons entre les mains de l’Éternel, car ses compassions sont immenses; mais que je ne tombe pas entre les mains des hommes!
15 L’Éternel envoya la peste en Israël, depuis le matin jusqu’au temps fixé; et, de Dan à Beer Schéba, il mourut soixante-dix mille hommes parmi le peuple.
16 Comme l’ange étendait la main sur Jérusalem pour la détruire, l’Éternel se repentit de ce mal, et il dit à l’ange qui faisait périr le peuple: Assez! Retire maintenant ta main. L’ange de l’Éternel était près de l’aire d’Aravna, le Jébusien.
17 David, voyant l’ange qui frappait parmi le peuple, dit à l’Éternel: Voici, j’ai péché! C’est moi qui suis coupable; mais ces brebis, qu’ont-elles fait? Que ta main soit donc sur moi et sur la maison de mon père!
18 Ce jour-là, Gad vint auprès de David, et lui dit: Monte, élève un autel à l’Éternel dans l’aire d’Aravna, le Jébusien.
19 David monta, selon la parole de Gad, comme l’Éternel l’avait ordonné.
20 Aravna regarda, et il vit le roi et ses serviteurs qui se dirigeaient vers lui; et Aravna sortit, et se prosterna devant le roi, le visage contre terre.
21 Aravna dit: Pourquoi mon seigneur le roi vient-il vers son serviteur? Et David répondit: Pour acheter de toi l’aire et pour y bâtir un autel à l’Éternel, afin que la plaie se retire de dessus le peuple.
22 Aravna dit à David: Que mon seigneur le roi prenne l’aire, et qu’il y offre les sacrifices qu’il lui plaira; vois, les boeufs seront pour l’holocauste, et les chars avec l’attelage serviront de bois.
23 Aravna donna le tout au roi. Et Aravna dit au roi: Que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te soit favorable!
24 Mais le roi dit à Aravna: Non! Je veux l’acheter de toi à prix d’argent, et je n’offrirai point à l’Éternel, mon Dieu, des holocaustes qui ne me coûtent rien. Et David acheta l’aire et les boeufs pour cinquante sicles d’argent.
25 David bâtit là un autel à l’Éternel, et il offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices d’actions de grâces. Alors l’Éternel fut apaisé envers le pays, et la plaie se retira d’Israël.

1 And again the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.
2 For the king said to Joab the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the number of the people.
3 And Joab said unto the king, Now the Lord thy God add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?
4 Notwithstanding the king’s word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.
5 And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lieth in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer:
6 Then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtimhodshi; and they came to Danjaan, and about to Zidon,
7 And came to the strong hold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites: and they went out to the south of Judah, even to Beersheba.
8 So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.
9 And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.
10 And David’s heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the Lord, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O Lord, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
11 For when David was up in the morning, the word of the Lord came unto the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying,
12 Go and say unto David, Thus saith the Lord, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
13 So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days’ pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
14 And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the Lord; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.
15 So the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.
16 And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the Lord repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the Lord was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.
17 And David spake unto the Lord when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father’s house.
18 And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the Lord in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.
19 And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as the Lord commanded.
20 And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.
21 And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the Lord, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
22 And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood.
23 All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, The Lord thy God accept thee.
24 And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
25 And David built there an altar unto the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the Lord was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
