1 Yon jou, wa Bèlchaza bay yon gwo resepsyon pou mil moun nan gwo zotobre peyi a. Yo t’ap bwè diven ansanm.
2 Antan yo t’ap bwè konsa, Bèlchaza bay lòd pou y’ al pran gwo gode fèt an lò ak gode fèt an ajan papa l’, Nèbikadneza, te pran nan tanp lavil Jerizalèm lan. Li te fè chache yo pou l’ te bwè ladan yo ansanm ak chèf li yo, madanm li yo ak fanm kay li yo.
3 Lamenm, yo pote gode an lò ak gode an ajan yo, epi yo tout yo tanmen bwè ladan yo.
4 Yo t’ap bwè diven, yo t’ap fè lwanj bondye pa yo ki fèt an lò, an ajan, an kwiv, an bwa, an fè ak an wòch.
5 Yo rete konsa, yo wè yon men moun parèt. Li pran ekri sou miray palè a, kote limyè lanp lan te pi klere a. Wa a wè bout men ki t’ap ekri a.
6 Li chanje koulè, li vin pè. Li santi tout kò l’ aprale, jenou l’ yo pran tranble.
7 Li rele byen fò, li mande pou fè chache tout divinò, tout moun ki li zetwal ak tout nèg save ki rete lavil Babilòn yo. Lè yo vini, wa a di yo konsa: -Nenpòt moun ki ka li sa ki ekri la a, lèfini ki ka fè m’ konnen sa li vle di, m’ap mete gwo manto wouj la sou li, m’ap pase yon chenn an lò nan kou l’. Apre sa, m’ap ba li twazyèm plas apre m’ nan gouvènman m’ lan.
8 Tout nèg save wa yo vanse. Men, pa t’ gen yonn ladan yo ki te ka li sa ki ekri a, ale wè pou yo ta fè l’ konnen sa li vle di.
9 Wa a vin pi pè toujou, figi l’ pèdi koulè. Tout chèf yo menm pa t’ konn sa pou yo fè.
10 Larenn lan, manman wa a, tande tout pale fò wa a t’ap fè ansanm ak chèf li yo. Li antre nan sal resepsyon an. Li di konsa: -Monwa, mwen mande pou bondye yo ba ou lavi pou lontan ankò! Ou pa bezwen pèdi tèt ou, ou pa bezwen pè.
11 Gen yon moun nan peyi ou la ki gen lespri bondye nan syèl yo nan li. Lè papa ou te la, nèg sa a te moutre jan li gen anpil lespri, anpil konesans ak anpil bon konprann sou li tankou bondye yo. Lè sa a, papa ou, wa Nèbikadneza, te nonmen l’ chèf sou tout divinò, tout majisyen, tout moun ki li zetwal ak tout nèg save yo.
12 Danyèl sa a, papa ou te rele l’ Beltechaza. Li te gen yon gwo lespri nan li, anpil konesans ak anpil konprann kifè li te konn esplike rèv ak tout bagay moun pa konprann. Li te jwenn solisyon pou tout pwoblèm. Fè chache Danyèl sa a, l’a fè ou konnen sa tout bagay sa yo vle di.
13 Yo mennen Danyèl devan wa a. Wa a di li: -Se ou menm Danyèl, yonn nan jwif wa Nèbikadneza, papa m’, te depòte soti nan peyi Jida mennen isit la?
14 Mwen tande ou gen bondye yo avè ou. Ou se yon nonm ki gen anpil lespri, anpil konesans ak anpil bon konprann.
15 Yo mennen nèg save ak moun ki li zetwal pou yo li sa ki ekri la a, lèfini pou yo fè m’ konnen sa li vle di. Men yo pa t’ kapab.
16 Koulye a, mwen tande ou ka bay esplikasyon pou tout bagay moun pa konprann, ou jwenn solisyon pou tout pwoblèm. Si ou ka li sa ki ekri la a, si ou fè m’ konnen sa li vle di, m’ap mete gwo manto wouj la sou ou, m’ap pase yon chenn an lò nan kou ou. Lèfini, m’ap ba ou twazyèm plas apre m’ nan gouvènman m’ lan.
17 Danyèl reponn wa a: -Ou mèt kenbe kado ou yo pou ou, osinon bay lòt moun yo. Men tout jan, monwa, m’ap li sa ki ekri a pou ou, lèfini m’ap fè ou konnen sa li vle di.
18 Monwa, Bondye ki anwo nan syèl la te fè papa ou, Nèbikadneza, wa. Li te ba li pouvwa, otorite ak anpil bèl bagay.
19 Bondye te sitèlman ba li pouvwa, tout pèp, moun tout ras, moun ki pale tout kalite lang te pè l’. Yo te tranble devan l’. Li te touye moun li vle, li te kite moun li vle viv. Li moute moun grad, li desann moun grad jan li vle.
20 Men, li kite lògèy vire tèt li, li vin mechan anpil, li santi li pa kanmarad pesonn. Se konsa yo wete l’ sou fotèy wa a, li pèdi bèl plas sa a.
21 Yo mete l’ deyò, yo voye l’ byen lwen, yo pa kite l’ mache sou moun. Lespri li tounen tankou lespri yon bèt. Li rete menm kote avèk bourik mawon, li manje zèb tankou bèf, lawouze bat li kou bèt seren. Lèfini, li rekonèt se Bondye ki anwo nan syèl la ki kontwole tout chèf sou latè, se li menm ki bay moun li vle dwa pou yo gouvènen.
22 Men, ou menm Bèlchaza, pitit li, ou pa t’ soumèt devan l’, atout ou te konnen tout bagay sa yo.
23 Ou menm tou, ou kenbe tèt ak Seyè ki nan syèl la, ou fè yo pote veso yo te pran nan tanp li a ba ou. Epi ou menm, chèf ou yo, madanm ou yo ak fanm kay ou yo, nou bwè diven ladan yo. Nou fè lwanj pou bondye fèt an lò, an ajan, an kwiv, an fè, an bwa, an wòch, bondye ki pa ka wè, ki pa ka tande, ki pa konn anyen. Men, monwa, Bondye ki kenbe lavi ou nan men l’ lan, li menm ki kontwole tou sa w’ap fè yo, ou pa fè lwanj li.
24 Se poutèt sa Bondye voye bout men sa a ekri pawòl sa yo.
25 Men sa ki ekri: Konte. Konte. Peze. Separe.
26 Men sa sa vle di: Konte: Bondye konte konbe jou depi ou wa, li pral mete yon bout nan sa.
27 Peze: Li mete ou nan balans, li jwenn ou manke pèz.
28 Separe: yo pral separe peyi ki sou lòd ou a bay moun Medi yo ak moun Pès yo.
29 Lamenm, wa Bèlchaza bay lòd pou yo mete gwo manto wouj la sou Danyèl, pou yo pase yon chenn an lò nan kou li, lèfini pou yo fè tout moun konnen Danyèl se twazyèm chèf apre li nan gouvènman peyi kote l’ wa a.
30 Menm jou lannwit sa a, yo touye Bèlchaza, wa lavil Babilòn lan.
31 Epi, Dariyis, moun peyi Medi a, pran pouvwa a. Dariyis te gen swasanndezan sou tèt li lè sa a.

Daniel 5
1 Le roi Belschatsar donna un grand festin à ses grands au nombre de mille, et il but du vin en leur présence.
2 Belschatsar, quand il eut goûté au vin, fit apporter les vases d’or et d’argent que son père Nebucadnetsar avait enlevés du temple de Jérusalem, afin que le roi et ses grands, ses femmes et ses concubines, s’en servissent pour boire.
3 Alors on apporta les vases d’or qui avaient été enlevés du temple, de la maison de Dieu à Jérusalem; et le roi et ses grands, ses femmes et ses concubines, s’en servirent pour boire.
4 Ils burent du vin, et ils louèrent les dieux d’or, d’argent, d’airain, de fer, de bois et de pierre.
5 En ce moment, apparurent les doigts d’une main d’homme, et ils écrivirent, en face du chandelier, sur la chaux de la muraille du palais royal. Le roi vit cette extrémité de main qui écrivait.
6 Alors le roi changea de couleur, et ses pensées le troublèrent; les jointures de ses reins se relâchèrent, et ses genoux se heurtèrent l’un contre l’autre.
7 Le roi cria avec force qu’on fît venir les astrologues, les Chaldéens et les devins; et le roi prit la parole et dit aux sages de Babylone: Quiconque lira cette écriture et m’en donnera l’explication sera revêtu de pourpre, portera un collier d’or à son cou, et aura la troisième place dans le gouvernement du royaume.
8 Tous les sages du roi entrèrent; mais ils ne purent pas lire l’écriture et en donner au roi l’explication.
9 Sur quoi le roi Belschatsar, fut très effrayé, il changea de couleur, et ses grands furent consternés.
10 La reine, à cause des paroles du roi et de ses grands, entra dans la salle du festin, et prit ainsi la parole: O roi, vis éternellement! Que tes pensées ne te troublent pas, et que ton visage ne change pas de couleur!
11 Il y a dans ton royaume un homme qui a en lui l’esprit des dieux saints; et du temps de ton père, on trouva chez lui des lumières, de l’intelligence, et une sagesse semblable à la sagesse des dieux. Aussi le roi Nebucadnetsar, ton père, le roi, ton père, l’établit chef des magiciens, des astrologues, des Chaldéens, des devins,
12 parce qu’on trouva chez lui, chez Daniel, nommé par le roi Beltschatsar, un esprit supérieur, de la science et de l’intelligence, la faculté d’interpréter les songes, d’expliquer les énigmes, et de résoudre les questions difficiles. Que Daniel soit donc appelé, et il donnera l’explication.
13 Alors Daniel fut introduit devant le roi. Le roi prit la parole et dit à Daniel: Es-tu ce Daniel, l’un des captifs de Juda, que le roi, mon père, a amenés de Juda?
14 J’ai appris sur ton compte que tu as en toi l’esprit des dieux, et qu’on trouve chez toi des lumières, de l’intelligence, et une sagesse extraordinaire.
15 On vient d’amener devant moi les sages et les astrologues, afin qu’ils lussent cette écriture et m’en donnassent l’explication; mais ils n’ont pas pu donner l’explication des mots.
16 J’ai appris que tu peux donner des explications et résoudre des questions difficiles; maintenant, si tu peux lire cette écriture et m’en donner l’explication, tu seras revêtu de pourpre, tu porteras un collier d’or à ton cou, et tu auras la troisième place dans le gouvernement du royaume.
17 Daniel répondit en présence du roi: Garde tes dons, et accorde à un autre tes présents; je lirai néanmoins l’écriture au roi, et je lui en donnerai l’explication.
18 O roi, le Dieu suprême avait donné à Nebucadnetsar, ton père, l’empire, la grandeur, la gloire et la magnificence;
19 et à cause de la grandeur qu’il lui avait donnée, tous les peuples, les nations, les hommes de toutes langues étaient dans la crainte et tremblaient devant lui. Le roi faisait mourir ceux qu’il voulait, et il laissait la vie à ceux qu’il voulait; il élevait ceux qu’il voulait, et il abaissait ceux qu’il voulait.
20 Mais lorsque son coeur s’éleva et que son esprit s’endurcit jusqu’à l’arrogance, il fut précipité de son trône royal et dépouillé de sa gloire;
21 il fut chassé du milieu des enfants des hommes, son coeur devint semblable à celui des bêtes, et sa demeure fut avec les ânes sauvages; on lui donna comme aux boeufs de l’herbe à manger, et son corps fut trempé de la rosée du ciel, jusqu’à ce qu’il reconnût que le Dieu suprême domine sur le règne des hommes et qu’il le donne à qui il lui plaît.
22 Et toi, Belschatsar, son fils, tu n’as pas humilié ton coeur, quoique tu susses toutes ces choses.
23 Tu t’es élevé contre le Seigneur des cieux; les vases de sa maison ont été apportés devant toi, et vous vous en êtes servis pour boire du vin, toi et tes grands, tes femmes et tes concubines; tu as loué les dieux d’argent, d’or, d’airain, de fer, de bois et de pierre, qui ne voient point, qui n’entendent point, et qui ne savent rien, et tu n’as pas glorifié le Dieu qui a dans sa main ton souffle et toutes tes voies.
24 C’est pourquoi il a envoyé cette extrémité de main qui a tracé cette écriture.
25 Voici l’écriture qui a été tracée: Compté, compté, pesé, et divisé.
26 Et voici l’explication de ces mots. Compté: Dieu a compté ton règne, et y a mis fin.
27 Pesé: Tu as été pesé dans la balance, et tu as été trouvé léger.
28 Divisé: Ton royaume sera divisé, et donne aux Mèdes et aux Perses.
29 Aussitôt Belschatsar donna des ordres, et l’on revêtit Daniel de pourpre, on lui mit au cou un collier d’or, et on publia qu’il aurait la troisième place dans le gouvernement du royaume.
30 Cette même nuit, Belschatsar, roi des Chaldéens, fut tué.
31 Et Darius, le Mède, s’empara du royaume, étant âgé de soixante-deux ans.

1 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.
2 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.
3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.
4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
6 Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.
7 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.
8 Then came in all the king’s wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.
9 Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied.
10 Now the queen by reason of the words of the king and his lords came into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, O king, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed:
11 There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
12 Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.
13 Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?
14 I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee.
15 And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing:
16 And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom.
17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
18 O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:
19 And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.
20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:
21 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;
23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.
25 And this is the writing that was written, Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin.
26 This is the interpretation of the thing: Mene; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
27 Tekel; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
28 Peres; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.
31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.
