1 Seyè a di Jozye konsa: -Ou pa bezwen pè. Ou pa bezwen dekouraje. Pran tout sòlda yo avè ou, epi mache sou lavil Ayi. M’ap lage wa lavil la ansanm ak pèp la, lavil la ak tout zòn yo a nan men ou.
2 Menm sa ou te fè moun lavil Jeriko yo ak wa yo a, se sa ou pral fè moun lavil Ayi yo ak wa yo a. Men, fwa sa a, n’a gen dwa pran byen yo ak bèt yo pou nou. Fè sòlda yo al anbiske kò yo pou yo atake lavil la pa dèyè.
3 Se konsa, Jozye reyini tout sòlda pèp Izrayèl yo, li fè plan pou yo mache sou lavil Ayi. Jozye chwazi trantmil (30.000) vanyan gason, li fè yo pati devan nan mitan lannwit.
4 Men lòd li ba yo: -Al anbiske kò nou lòt bò sou dèyè lavil la. Pa kache twò lwen non. Epi pare pou nou atake.
5 Mwen menm, mwen pral pwoche bò lavil la avèk tout sòlda ki avè m’ yo pa devan pòtay la. Lè n’a wè moun lavil yo soti vin fè fas kare ak nou, nou menm ki sou devan yo, n’a pran kouri devan yo ankò, jan nou te fè l’ anvan an.
6 Yo menm menm yo pral kouri dèyè nou, jouk y’a kite lavil la byen lwen dèyè yo, paske yo pral konprann se tankou premye fwa a.
7 Lè sa a, nou menm ki te kache sou dèyè a, n’a soti kote nou te anbiske kò nou an, n’a antre nan lavil la, paske Seyè a, Bondye nou an, ap lage lavil la nan men nou.
8 Lè n’a fin pran lavil la, n’a mete dife ladan l’ jan Seyè a te mande l’ la. Men lòd mwen ban nou.
9 Se konsa, Jozye voye yo ale. Y’ al anbiske kò yo sou dèyè lavil la, sou bò solèy kouche, ant lavil Ayi ak lavil Betèl. Jozye menm rete pase lannwit lan nan kan an.
10 Nan maten, bonè bonè, Jozye leve, li reyini tout lòt sòlda yo. Li pase yo enspeksyon. Apre sa, li pran direksyon lavil Ayi a pou li. Li t’ap mache alatèt lame a ansanm ak tout chèf fanmi pèp Izrayèl yo.
11 Sòlda ki te avè l’ yo rive jouk anfas pòtay lavil la. Yo moute kan yo sou bò nò lavil Ayi a. Yo kite yon ti fon nan mitan yo ak lavil Ayi a.
12 Jozye pran senkmil (5.000) sòlda, li fè yo al kache sou bò solèy kouche, ant lavil Ayi ak lavil Betèl.
13 Se konsa, pifò nan lame a moute kan yo sou bò nò lavil la, epi rès lame a al kache kò yo sou bò solèy kouche. Jou sa a, Jozye pase lannwit lan nan Fon an.
14 Lè wa lavil Ayi a wè sòlda Jozye yo, li menm ansanm ak tout gason nan lavil la, yo leve granmaten, yo prese pare yo. Yo soti al atake moun Izrayèl yo sou pant ki desann nan Fon Jouden an. Men, li pa t’ konnen yo tapral atake l’ sou dèyè.
15 Jozye ak moun pa l’ yo fè tankou y’ap kouri pou yo, yo lage kò yo nan dezè a.
16 Tout gason ki te nan lavil la t’ap kouri dèyè yo, yo t’ap rele byen fò. Se konsa, nan kouri dèyè Jozye a, yo kite lavil la byen lwen dèyè.
17 Pa t’ gen yon gason nan lavil Ayi a, tout te kouri soti dèyè pèp Izrayèl la. Yo kite pòtay lavil la gran batan louvri san pesonn pou defann li.
18 Seyè a di Jozye konsa: -Leve frenn ki nan men ou lan, lonje l’ sou lavil Ayi a: mwen pral lage lavil la nan men ou. Jozye lonje frenn ki te nan men l’ lan sou lavil la.
19 Leve li leve men l’, mesye ki te anbiske kò yo soti byen vit nan kachèt yo a, yo kouri antre nan lavil la, yo pran lavil la pou yo. Lamenm yo mete dife ladan l’.
20 Lè mesye lavil Ayi yo vire tèt yo gade, yo wè yon gwo lafimen ki t’ap soti nan lavil la moute nan syèl, yo pa t’ konn ki bò pou yo fè, paske lè sa a, sòlda pèp Izrayèl ki t’ap kouri nan direksyon dezè a te vire tounen sou yo.
21 Lè Jozye ak tout moun li yo wè lòt sòlda ki te kache yo te pran lavil la, lè yo wè dife nan lavil la, yo vire tounen, yo atake moun lavil Ayi yo.
22 Lòt moun pèp Izrayèl yo menm soti nan lavil la, epi yo mache sou yo tou. Konsa moun lavil Ayi yo te sènen toupatou ak moun pèp Izrayèl yo. Sòlda pèp Izrayèl yo touye mezi moun yo jwenn devan yo. Yo pa kite yonn vivan,
23 esepte wa lavil Ayi a. Yo pran msye, yo mennen l’ bay Jozye.
24 Moun Izrayèl yo kouri dèyè lènmi yo nan tout mòn yo ak nan tout dezè a. Lè yo fin touye tout, yo tounen lavil Ayi, epi yo touye tout moun ki te ladan l’.
25 Jou sa a, yo touye douzmil (12000) moun, fi kou gason, ki t’ap viv nan lavil Ayi a.
26 Jozye menm te kenbe bra l’ leve anlè ak frenn lan lonje sou lavil Ayi a jouk yo te fin touye tout moun ki te rete nan lavil la tankou yon ofrann pou Seyè a.
27 Moun Izrayèl yo te pran tout bèt moun yo ak tout byen yo pou yo, jan Seyè a te bay Jozye lòd la.
28 Jozye boule lavil Ayi a, li fè l’ tounen mazi, kote moun pa janm rete jouk jòdi a.
29 Li fè yo pann wa lavil Ayi a nan yon pyebwa, epi yo kite l’ la jouk aswè. Lè solèy kouche, Jozye bay lòd pou yo desann kadav la. Yo pran l’, yo voye l’ jete devan pòtay lavil la. Yo mete yon gwo pil wòch sou li. Pil wòch la la jouk jòdi a.
30 Lè sa a, Jozye bati yon lotèl pou Seyè a, Bondye pèp Izrayèl la, sou mòn Ebal.
31 Li bati li dapre lòd Moyiz, sèvitè Seyè a, te bay moun pèp Izrayèl yo, jan sa ekri nan liv Lalwa Moyiz la: N’a bati yon lotèl ak wòch ki pa t’ janm travay ak zouti fè. Yo ofri sou lotèl la bèt yo touye pou boule nèt pou Seyè a, epi yo touye bèt pou mande Bondye padon.
32 Antan yo la, Jozye pran lalwa Moyiz te ekri pou pèp Izrayèl la, li kopye l’ sou tout wòch lotèl la devan tout pèp la.
33 Apre sa, tout pèp Izrayèl la vini ak chèf fanmi yo, direktè yo ak jij yo ansanm ak moun lòt nasyon ki t’ap viv nan mitan yo, yo kanpe sou de bò Bwat Kontra Seyè a, ak fas yo vire ap gade moun Levi ki t’ap pote Bwat Kontra a sou zepòl yo nan mitan. Mwatye ladan yo te kanpe sou pant Mòn Garizim, mwatye sou bò mòn Ebal. Se konsa, depi lontan Moyiz, sèvitè Bondye a, te ba yo lòd kanpe lè lè a va rive pou yo resevwa benediksyon.
34 Lèfini, Jozye li tout pawòl ki te nan liv lalwa a, pawòl benediksyon yo kou pawòl madichon yo, jan yo ekri nan liv lalwa a.
35 Jozye li tout kòmandman Moyiz te bay yo san sote yon mo devan tout pèp Izrayèl la ki te reyini ansanm ak fanm yo, timoun yo ak tout moun lòt nasyon ki t’ap viv nan mitan yo.

1 L’Éternel dit à Josué: Ne crains point, et ne t’effraie point! Prends avec toi tous les gens de guerre, lève-toi, monte contre Aï. Vois, je livre entre tes mains le roi d’Aï et son peuple, sa ville et son pays.
2 Tu traiteras Aï et son roi comme tu as traité Jéricho et son roi; seulement vous garderez pour vous le butin et le bétail. Place une embuscade derrière la ville.
3 Josué se leva avec tous les gens de guerre, pour monter contre Aï. Il choisit trente mille vaillants hommes, qu’il fit partir de nuit,
4 et auxquels il donna cet ordre: Écoutez, vous vous mettrez en embuscade derrière la ville; ne vous éloignez pas beaucoup de la ville, et soyez tous prêts.
5 Mais moi et tout le peuple qui est avec moi, nous nous approcherons de la ville. Et quand ils sortiront à notre rencontre, comme la première fois, nous prendrons la fuite devant eux.
6 Ils nous poursuivront jusqu’à ce que nous les ayons attirés loin de la ville, car ils diront: Ils fuient devant nous, comme la première fois! Et nous fuirons devant eux.
7 Vous sortirez alors de l’embuscade, et vous vous emparerez de la ville, et l’Éternel, votre Dieu, la livrera entre vos mains.
8 Quand vous aurez pris la ville, vous y mettrez le feu, vous agirez comme l’Éternel l’a dit: c’est l’ordre que je vous donne.
9 Josué les fit partir, et ils allèrent se placer en embuscade entre Béthel et Aï, à l’occident d’Aï. Mais Josué passa cette nuit-là au milieu du peuple.
10 Josué se leva de bon matin, passa le peuple en revue, et marcha contre Aï, à la tête du peuple, lui et les anciens d’Israël.
11 Tous les gens de guerre qui étaient avec lui montèrent et s’approchèrent; lorsqu’ils furent arrivés en face de la ville, ils campèrent au nord d’Aï, dont ils étaient séparés par la vallée.
12 Josué prit environ cinq mille hommes, et les mit en embuscade entre Béthel et Aï, à l’occident de la ville.
13 Après que tout le camp eut pris position au nord de la ville, et l’embuscade à l’occident de la ville, Josué s’avança cette nuit-là au milieu de la vallée.
14 Lorsque le roi d’Aï vit cela, les gens d’Aï se levèrent en hâte de bon matin, et sortirent à la rencontre d’Israël, pour le combattre. Le roi se dirigea, avec tout son peuple, vers un lieu fixé, du côté de la plaine, et il ne savait pas qu’il y avait derrière la ville une embuscade contre lui.
15 Josué et tout Israël feignirent d’être battus devant eux, et ils s’enfuirent par le chemin du désert.
16 Alors tout le peuple qui était dans la ville s’assembla pour se mettre à leur poursuite. Ils poursuivirent Josué, et ils furent attirés loin de la ville.
17 Il n’y eut dans Aï et dans Béthel pas un homme qui ne sortit contre Israël. Ils laissèrent la ville ouverte, et poursuivirent Israël.
18 L’Éternel dit à Josué: Étends vers Aï le javelot que tu as à la main, car je vais la livrer en ton pouvoir. Et Josué étendit vers la ville le javelot qu’il avait à la main.
19 Aussitôt qu’il eut étendu sa main, les hommes en embuscade sortirent précipitamment du lieu où ils étaient; ils pénétrèrent dans la ville, la prirent, et se hâtèrent d’y mettre le feu.
20 Les gens d’Aï, ayant regardé derrière eux, virent la fumée de la ville monter vers le ciel, et ils ne purent se sauver d’aucun côté. Le peuple qui fuyait vers le désert se retourna contre ceux qui le poursuivaient;
21 car Josué et tout Israël, voyant la ville prise par les hommes de l’embuscade, et la fumée de la ville qui montait, se retournèrent et battirent les gens d’Aï.
22 Les autres sortirent de la ville à leur rencontre, et les gens d’Aï furent enveloppés par Israël de toutes parts. Israël les battit, sans leur laisser un survivant ni un fuyard;
23 ils prirent vivant le roi d’Aï, et l’amenèrent à Josué.
24 Lorsqu’Israël eut achevé de tuer tous les habitants d’Aï dans la campagne, dans le désert, où ils l’avaient poursuivi, et que tous furent entièrement passés au fil de l’épée, tout Israël revint vers Aï et la frappa du tranchant de l’épée.
25 Il y eut au total douze mille personnes tuées ce jour-là, hommes et femmes, tous gens d’Aï.
26 Josué ne retira point sa main qu’il tenait étendue avec le javelot, jusqu’à ce que tous les habitants eussent été dévoués par interdit.
27 Seulement Israël garda pour lui le bétail et le butin de cette ville, selon l’ordre que l’Éternel avait prescrit à Josué.
28 Josué brûla Aï, et en fit à jamais un monceau de ruines, qui subsiste encore aujourd’hui.
29 Il fit pendre à un bois le roi d’Aï, et l’y laissa jusqu’au soir. Au coucher du soleil, Josué ordonna qu’on descendît son cadavre du bois; on le jeta à l’entrée de la porte de la ville, et l’on éleva sur lui un grand monceau de pierres, qui subsiste encore aujourd’hui.
30 Alors Josué bâtit un autel à l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, sur le mont Ébal,
31 comme Moïse, serviteur de l’Éternel, l’avait ordonné aux enfants d’Israël, et comme il est écrit dans le livre de la loi de Moïse: c’était un autel de pierres brutes, sur lesquelles on ne porta point le fer. Ils offrirent sur cet autel des holocaustes à l’Éternel, et ils présentèrent des sacrifices d’actions de grâces.
32 Et là Josué écrivit sur les pierres une copie de la loi que Moïse avait écrite devant les enfants d’Israël.
33 Tout Israël, ses anciens, ses officiers et ses juges, se tenaient des deux côtés de l’arche, devant les sacrificateurs, les Lévites, qui portaient l’arche de l’alliance de l’Éternel; les étrangers comme les enfants d’Israël étaient là, moitié du côté du mont Garizim, moitié du côté du mont Ébal, selon l’ordre qu’avait précédemment donné Moïse, serviteur de l’Éternel, de bénir le peuple d’Israël.
34 Josué lut ensuite toutes les paroles de la loi, les bénédictions et les malédictions, suivant ce qui est écrit dans le livre de la loi.
35 Il n’y eut rien de tout ce que Moïse avait prescrit, que Josué ne lût en présence de toute l’assemblée d’Israël, des femmes et des enfants, et des étrangers qui marchaient au milieu d’eux.

1 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:
2 And thou shalt do to Ai and her king as thou didst unto Jericho and her king: only the spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall ye take for a prey unto yourselves: lay thee an ambush for the city behind it.
3 So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand mighty men of valour, and sent them away by night.
4 And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in wait against the city, even behind the city: go not very far from the city, but be ye all ready:
5 And I, and all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city: and it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them,
6 (For they will come out after us) till we have drawn them from the city; for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first: therefore we will flee before them.
7 Then ye shall rise up from the ambush, and seize upon the city: for the Lord your God will deliver it into your hand.
8 And it shall be, when ye have taken the city, that ye shall set the city on fire: according to the commandment of the Lord shall ye do. See, I have commanded you.
9 Joshua therefore sent them forth: and they went to lie in ambush, and abode between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai: but Joshua lodged that night among the people.
10 And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and numbered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.
11 And all the people, even the people of war that were with him, went up, and drew nigh, and came before the city, and pitched on the north side of Ai: now there was a valley between them and Ai.
12 And he took about five thousand men, and set them to lie in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.
13 And when they had set the people, even all the host that was on the north of the city, and their liers in wait on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
14 And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hasted and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at a time appointed, before the plain; but he wist not that there were liers in ambush against him behind the city.
15 And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
16 And all the people that were in Ai were called together to pursue after them: and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
17 And there was not a man left in Ai or Bethel, that went not out after Israel: and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.
18 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Stretch out the spear that is in thy hand toward Ai; for I will give it into thine hand. And Joshua stretched out the spear that he had in his hand toward the city.
19 And the ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand: and they entered into the city, and took it, and hasted and set the city on fire.
20 And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way: and the people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.
21 And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and slew the men of Ai.
22 And the other issued out of the city against them; so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side: and they smote them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.
23 And the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.
24 And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness wherein they chased them, and when they were all fallen on the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned unto Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.
25 And so it was, that all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.
26 For Joshua drew not his hand back, wherewith he stretched out the spear, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
27 Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for a prey unto themselves, according unto the word of the Lord which he commanded Joshua.
28 And Joshua burnt Ai, and made it an heap for ever, even a desolation unto this day.
29 And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until eventide: and as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his carcase down from the tree, and cast it at the entering of the gate of the city, and raise thereon a great heap of stones, that remaineth unto this day.
30 Then Joshua built an altar unto the Lord God of Israel in mount Ebal,
31 As Moses the servant of the Lord commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto the Lord, and sacrificed peace offerings.
32 And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.
33 And all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord, as well the stranger, as he that was born among them; half of them over against mount Gerizim, and half of them over against mount Ebal; as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded before, that they should bless the people of Israel.
34 And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and cursings, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
35 There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and the strangers that were conversant among them.
