1 Yo voye di Joab jan wa a t’ap kriye, jan li te pran lapenn pou Absalon ki mouri a.
2 Jou sa a, sòlda David yo pa t’ fè fèt pou genyen yo genyen batay la. Yo tout te kagou, paske yo te pran nouvèl jan wa a te nan gwo lapenn pou lanmò pitit li a.
3 Yo antre nan lavil la san fè ankenn bri, tankou sòlda ki wont paske yo kouri pou lagè.
4 Wa a menm te kouvri tèt li, li t’ap rele: -Woy! Gason m’ lan! Absalon, pitit gason m’ lan! Absalon, pitit gason m’ lan!
5 Joab al jwenn wa a nan chanm li, li di l’ konsa: -Jan ou fè sa jòdi a ou fè tout sòlda ou yo wont. Yo menm ki te sove lavi ou ansanm ak lavi pitit gason ak pitit fi ou yo, lavi madanm ak fanm kay ou yo.
6 Ou moutre jan ou renmen moun ki rayi ou, men ou pa vle wè moun ki renmen ou. Ou fè wè jan chèf lame ak sòlda k’ap goumen pou ou yo pa di ou anyen. Jòdi a mwen wè monwa ta pi kontan si Absalon te vivan, epi nou tout nou te mouri.
7 Koulye a, monwa, leve non! Al pale ak moun pa ou yo pou ankouraje yo. Si ou pa fè sa, mwen fè sèman devan Bondye, denmen maten p’ap gen yon moun k’ap kanpe avè ou ankò. Malè sa a pral pi rèd pase tout malè ki janm tonbe sou ou depi ou te jenn gason rive jounen jòdi a.
8 Wa a leve vre, li vin chita bò pòtay lavil la. Lè sòlda yo vin konn sa, yo tout vin sanble bò kote l’. Moun peyi Izrayèl yo menm te kouri ale chak moun lakay yo.
9 Nan tou peyi Izrayèl la, moun t’ap diskite, yo t’ap di: -Wa David te delivre nou anba men lènmi nou yo. Li te sove nou anba men moun peyi Filisti yo. Men koulye a, li kouri kite peyi a poutèt Absalon.
10 Nou te fè /seremoni pou mete Absalon wa peyi a. Men li mouri nan lagè. Sa ki kenbe nou koulye a pou nou fè wa David tounen ankò?
11 Antan wa a lakay li, li vin konnen tou sa pèp la t’ap di. Lamenm, li voye yon mesaj bay Zadòk ak Abyata, li di yo: -Pale ak chèf fanmi moun peyi Jida yo. Mande yo poukisa se pa yo menm premye moun ki chache fè wa a tounen lakay li.
12 Di yo se fanmi m’ yo ye, menm ras avè m’. Poukisa se yo menm dènye moun ki pou fè m’ tounen nan palè a?
13 n’a pale ak Amasa, n’a di l’ pou mwen se fanmi m’ li ye. Depi jòdi a, mwen mete l’ alatèt lame mwen an nan plas Joab. Si mwen pa kenbe pawòl, se pou Bondye ban m’ pi gwo pinisyon ki genyen!
14 Lè tout moun peyi Jida yo tande pawòl David yo, yo tonbe dakò ak li. Yo mete tèt yo ansanm, yo voye di l’: -Ou mèt tounen ansanm ak tout moun pa ou yo.
15 Wa a leve, li pran wout pou l’ tounen. Li rive bò larivyè Jouden an. Tout moun peyi Jida yo, bò pa yo, kite lavil Gilgal, y’ al kontre wa a. Yo ede l’ janbe larivyè a.
16 Se konsa yon nonm nan branch fanmi Benjamen an, Chimeyi, pitit Gera a, moun lavil Baourim, te kouri al kontre wa David bò larivyè Jouden an ansanm ak yo.
17 Te gen mil (1000) gason nan branch fanm Benjamen an avè l’. Ziba, domestik fanmi Sayil la, te la tou ansanm ak kenz pitit gason l’ yo ak vin moun k’ap travay avèk li yo. Yo tout kouri al kontre wa a bò larivyè Jouden an.
18 Yo janbe larivyè a, yo ede moun wa yo janbe pas la. Yo fè tou sa wa a te mande yo fè. Lè wa a fè sa pou l’ janbe tou, Chimeyi lage kò l’ atè devan wa a.
19 Li di l’ konsa: -Monwa, tanpri! Pa kenbe m’ nan kè! Bliye sa m’ te fè ou jou ou t’ap kite lavil Jerizalèm lan. Tanpri, pa kenbe m’ nan kè!
20 Mwen konnen sa m’ te fè a te mal, monwa. Ou wè jòdi a, premye moun nan tout branch fanmi Jozèf la ki kouri vin resevwa ou, se mwen menm.
21 Lè sa a, Abichayi, pitit gason Sewouya a, pale, li di konsa: -Sa pa ka anpeche yo touye Chimeyi, paske li te bay moun Bondye te chwazi pou wa a madichon.
22 Men David reponn li: -Pa antre nan koze a. Sa pa gade ou, pitit Sewouya! Poukisa jòdi a ou vle kenbe tèt avè m’? Mwen pa vle yo touye pesonn nan moun peyi Izrayèl yo, paske jòdi a mwen konnen se mwen menm ki wa peyi Izrayèl la vre.
23 Apre sa, wa a di Chimeyi konsa: -Mwen fè ou sèman, yo p’ap touye ou!
24 Mefibochèt, pitit pitit Sayil la, te vin kontre wa a tou. Depi jou wa David te kite lavil Jerizalèm lan jouk jou li te tounen san danje san malè a, Mefibochèt pa t’ koupe bab li, ni li pa t’ lave pye l’, ni li pa t’ lave rad sou li.
25 Lè Mefibochèt rive lavil Jerizalèm pou li al resevwa wa a, wa a di l’: -Mefibochèt, poukisa ou pa t’ pati ansanm avè m’?
26 Mefibochèt reponn li: -Monwa, se domestik mwen an ki woule m’. Ou konnen m’ enfim. Mwen te mande domestik mwen an pou l’ te sele fenmèl bourik mwen an pou m’ te ka ale ansanm avèk monwa.
27 Domestik la al ba ou manti sou mwen. Men, monwa, mèt mwen, ou tankou yon zanj Bondye. Ou mèt fè sa ou vle avè m’.
28 Tout moun nan fanmi Sayil, granpapa m’ lan, te merite pou ou te touye yo vre. Men monwa, ou ban m’ dwa pou m’ manje sou menm tab avè ou. Mwen pa gen dwa mande monwa ankenn lòt favè ankò.
29 Wa reponn li: -Ou pa bezwen di anyen ankò! Mwen pran desizyon m’ deja. W’a antann ou ak Ziba pou nou pataje tè Sayil yo.
30 Mefibochèt di wa a: -Ziba te mèt pran tout pou li. Sa ki pi enpòtan pou mwen, se wè pou m’ wè wa a tounen san danje san malè nan palè li.
31 Bazilayi, moun lavil Gilgal, te desann soti lavil Wogelim rive larivyè Jouden ansanm ak wa a. Li janbe lòt bò larivyè a ansanm ak wa a. Lè li fin janbe, li di wa a orevwa pou l’ te tounen lakay li.
32 Bazilayi te yon vye granmoun, li te gen katrevenzan. Li te rich anpil. Se li menm ki te bay wa a tout pwovizyon li te bezwen lè wa a te lavil Manayim.
33 Wa a di l’ konsa: -Ann ale ansanm avè m’ lavil Jerizalèm non. M’a pran swen ou.
34 Men Bazilayi reponn li: -Monwa, mwen pa rete anpil tan ankò pou m’ viv. M’ pa wè poukisa pou m’ ale ansanm avè ou lavil Jerizalèm.
35 Mwen deja gen katreven lanne sou tèt mwen. Anyen pa di m’ anyen ankò. M’ pa pran gou ni sa m’ap manje, ni sa m’ap bwè. M’ pa tande vwa gason ak fi k’ap chante yo ankò. M’ pral tounen yon chay pou monwa.
36 Epitou, mwen pa merite tout rekonpans sa a. Se annik yon ti bout chemen m’ te vle fè avè ou lòt bò larivyè Jouden an.
37 Tanpri, kite m’ tounen lakay mwen. Konsa, m’a mouri toupre tonm fanmi mwen. Men Chimkam, pitit mwen, ki va sèvi ou. Ou mèt pran l’ avè ou, monwa. W’a fè sa ou wè ki pi bon pou li.
38 Wa a reponn li: -Bon. M’ap pran l’ avè m’. M’a fè pou li tou sa ou menm w’a wè ki bon pou li. Nenpòt kisa w’a mande m’, m’a fè l’ pou ou.
39 Apre sa, tout moun yo janbe lòt bò larivyè Jouden an. Lè wa a fin janbe, li bo Bazilayi, li rele benediksyon Bondye sou li. Bazilayi tounen lakay li apre sa.
40 Tout moun peyi Jida yo ak mwatye nan moun peyi Izrayèl yo janbe lòt bò larivyè Jouden an ansanm ak wa a. Wa a desanm lavil Gilga. Chimkam te ale avè l’.
41 Lè sa a, moun peyi Izrayèl yo al jwenn wa a, yo di l’ konsa: -Monwa, poukisa frè nou yo, moun peyi Jida yo, te vin pran ou, yo fè ou janbe larivyè Jouden ansanm ak tout fanmi ou ak tout moun pa ou yo?
42 Moun Jida yo reponn: -Nou fè l’ paske wa a pi fanmi moun Jida yo pase li fanmi moun Izrayèl yo. Sa ki gen la a atò pou nou fache? Li pa janm peye manje pou nou ki fanmi l’, ni li pa janm fè nou kado anyen.
43 Lamenm, moun peyi Izrayèl yo reponn moun peyi Jida yo: -Nou gen dis fwa plis dwa pase moun Jida yo sou wa a, menm si se fanmi yo li ye. Poukisa nou menm moun Jida yo, nou meprize moun peyi Izrayèl yo konsa? Pa bliye se nou menm premye moun ki te pale koze fè wa a tounen an. Men moun peyi Jida yo pale pi fò, yo fèmen bouch moun peyi Izrayèl yo.

1 On vint dire à Joab: Voici, le roi pleure et se lamente à cause d’Absalom.
2 Et la victoire, ce jour-là, fut changée en deuil pour tout le peuple, car en ce jour le peuple entendait dire: Le roi est affligé à cause de son fils.
3 Ce même jour, le peuple rentra dans la ville à la dérobée, comme l’auraient fait des gens honteux d’avoir pris la fuite dans le combat.
4 Le roi s’était couvert le visage, et il criait à haute voix: Mon fils Absalom! Absalom, mon fils, mon fils!
5 Joab entra dans la chambre où était le roi, et dit: Tu couvres aujourd’hui de confusion la face de tous tes serviteurs, qui ont aujourd’hui sauvé ta vie, celle de tes fils et de tes filles, celle de tes femmes et de tes concubines.
6 Tu aimes ceux qui te haïssent et tu hais ceux qui t’aiment, car tu montres aujourd’hui qu’il n’y a pour toi ni chefs ni serviteurs; et je vois maintenant que, si Absalom vivait et que nous fussions tous morts en ce jour, cela serait agréable à tes yeux.
7 Lève-toi donc, sors, et parle au coeur de tes serviteurs! Car je jure par l’Éternel que, si tu ne sors pas, il ne restera pas un homme avec toi cette nuit; et ce sera pour toi pire que tous les malheurs qui te sont arrivés depuis ta jeunesse jusqu’à présent.
8 Alors le roi se leva, et il s’assit à la porte. On fit dire à tout le peuple: Voici, le roi est assis à la porte. Et tout le peuple vint devant le roi. Cependant Israël s’était enfui, chacun dans sa tente.
9 Et dans toutes les tribus d’Israël, tout le peuple était en contestation, disant: Le roi nous a délivrés de la main de nos ennemis, c’est lui qui nous a sauvés de la main des Philistins; et maintenant il a dû fuir du pays devant Absalom.
10 Or Absalom, que nous avions oint pour qu’il régnât sur nous, est mort dans la bataille: pourquoi ne parlez-vous pas de faire revenir le roi?
11 De son côté, le roi David envoya dire aux sacrificateurs Tsadok et Abiathar: Parlez aux anciens de Juda, et dites-leur: Pourquoi seriez-vous les derniers à ramener le roi dans sa maison? -Car ce qui se disait dans tout Israël était parvenu jusqu’au roi.
12 Vous êtes mes frères, vous êtes mes os et ma chair; pourquoi seriez-vous les derniers à ramener le roi?
13 Vous direz aussi à Amasa: N’es-tu pas mon os et ma chair? Que Dieu me traite dans toute sa rigueur, si tu ne deviens pas devant moi pour toujours chef de l’armée à la place de Joab!
14 David fléchit le coeur de tous ceux de Juda, comme s’ils n’eussent été qu’un seul homme; et ils envoyèrent dire au roi: Reviens, toi, et tous tes serviteurs.
15 Le roi revint et arriva jusqu’au Jourdain; et Juda se rendit à Guilgal, afin d’aller à la rencontre du roi et de lui faire passer le Jourdain.
16 Schimeï, fils de Guéra, Benjamite, qui était de Bachurim, se hâta de descendre avec ceux de Juda à la rencontre du roi David.
17 Il avait avec lui mille hommes de Benjamin, et Tsiba, serviteur de la maison de Saül, et les quinze fils et les vingt serviteurs de Tsiba. Ils passèrent le Jourdain à la vue du roi.
18 Le bateau, mis à la disposition du roi, faisait la traversée pour transporter sa maison; et au moment où le roi allait passer le Jourdain, Schimeï, fils de Guéra, se prosterna devant lui.
19 Et il dit au roi: Que mon seigneur ne tienne pas compte de mon iniquité, qu’il oublie que ton serviteur l’a offensé le jour où le roi mon seigneur sortait de Jérusalem, et que le roi n’y ait point égard!
20 Car ton serviteur reconnaît qu’il a péché. Et voici, je viens aujourd’hui le premier de toute la maison de Joseph à la rencontre du roi mon seigneur.
21 Alors Abischaï, fils de Tseruja, prit la parole et dit: Schimeï ne doit-il pas mourir pour avoir maudit l’oint de l’Éternel?
22 Mais David dit: Qu’ai-je affaire avec vous, fils de Tseruja, et pourquoi vous montrez-vous aujourd’hui mes adversaires? Aujourd’hui ferait-on mourir un homme en Israël? Ne sais-je donc pas que je règne aujourd’hui sur Israël?
23 Et le roi dit à Schimeï: Tu ne mourras point! Et le roi le lui jura.
24 Mephiboscheth, fils de Saül, descendit aussi à la rencontre du roi. Il n’avait point soigné ses pieds, ni fait sa barbe, ni lavé ses vêtements, depuis le jour où le roi s’en était allé jusqu’à celui où il revenait en paix.
25 Lorsqu’il se rendit au-devant du roi à Jérusalem, le roi lui dit: Pourquoi n’es-tu pas venu avec moi, Mephiboscheth?
26 Et il répondit: O roi mon seigneur, mon serviteur m’a trompé, car ton serviteur, qui est boiteux, avait dit: Je ferai seller mon âne, je le monterai, et j’irai avec le roi.
27 Et il a calomnié ton serviteur auprès de mon seigneur le roi. Mais mon seigneur le roi est comme un ange de Dieu. Fais ce qui te semblera bon.
28 Car tous ceux de la maison de mon père n’ont été que des gens dignes de mort devant le roi mon seigneur; et cependant tu as mis ton serviteur au nombre de ceux qui mangent à ta table. Quel droit puis-je encore avoir, et qu’ai-je à demander au roi?
29 Le roi lui dit: A quoi bon toutes tes paroles? Je l’ai déclaré: Toi et Tsiba, vous partagerez les terres.
30 Et Mephiboscheth dit au roi: Qu’il prenne même le tout, puisque le roi mon seigneur rentre en paix dans sa maison.
31 Barzillaï, le Galaadite, descendit de Roguelim, et passa le Jourdain avec le roi, pour l’accompagner jusqu’au delà du Jourdain.
32 Barzillaï était très vieux, âgé de quatre-vingts ans. Il avait entretenu le roi pendant son séjour à Mahanaïm, car c’était un homme fort riche.
33 Le roi dit à Barzillaï: Viens avec moi, je te nourrirai chez moi à Jérusalem.
34 Mais Barzillaï répondit au roi: Combien d’années vivrai-je encore, pour que je monte avec le roi à Jérusalem?
35 Je suis aujourd’hui âgé de quatre-vingts ans. Puis-je connaître ce qui est bon et ce qui est mauvais? Ton serviteur peut-il savourer ce qu’il mange et ce qu’il boit? Puis-je encore entendre la voix des chanteurs et des chanteuses? Et pourquoi ton serviteur serait-il encore à charge à mon seigneur le roi?
36 Ton serviteur ira un peu au delà du Jourdain avec le roi. Pourquoi, d’ailleurs, le roi m’accorderait-il ce bienfait?
37 Que ton serviteur s’en retourne, et que je meure dans ma ville, près du sépulcre de mon père et de ma mère! Mais voici ton serviteur Kimham, qui passera avec le roi mon seigneur; fais pour lui ce que tu trouveras bon.
38 Le roi dit: Que Kimham passe avec moi, et je ferai pour lui ce qui te plaira; tout ce que tu désireras de moi, je te l’accorderai.
39 Quand tout le peuple eut passé le Jourdain et que le roi l’eut aussi passé, le roi baisa Barzillaï et le bénit. Et Barzillaï retourna dans sa demeure.
40 Le roi se dirigea vers Guilgal, et Kimham l’accompagna. Tout le peuple de Juda et la moitié du peuple d’Israël avaient fait passer le Jourdain au roi.
41 Mais voici, tous les hommes d’Israël abordèrent le roi, et lui dirent: Pourquoi nos frères, les hommes de Juda, t’ont-ils enlevé, et ont-ils fait passer le Jourdain au roi, à sa maison, et à tous les gens de David?
42 Tous les hommes de Juda répondirent aux hommes d’Israël: C’est que le roi nous tient de plus près; et qu’y a-t-il là pour vous irriter? Avons-nous vécu aux dépens du roi? Nous a-t-il fait des présents?
43 Et les hommes d’Israël répondirent aux hommes de Juda: Le roi nous appartient dix fois autant, et David même plus qu’à vous. Pourquoi nous avez-vous méprisés? N’avons-nous pas été les premiers à proposer de faire revenir notre roi? Et les hommes de Juda parlèrent avec plus de violence que les hommes d’Israël.

1 And it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom.
2 And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people: for the people heard say that day how the king was grieved for his son.
3 And the people gat them by stealth that day into the city, as people being ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.
4 But the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!
5 And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy servants, which this day have saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines;
6 In that thou lovest thine enemies, and hatest thy friends. For thou hast declared this day, that thou regardest neither princes nor servants: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well.
7 Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortably unto thy servants: for I swear by the Lord, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry one with thee this night: and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that befell thee from thy youth until now.
8 Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king doth sit in the gate. And all the people came before the king: for Israel had fled every man to his tent.
9 And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king saved us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land for Absalom.
10 And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?
11 And king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, even to his house.
12 Ye are my brethren, ye are my bones and my flesh: wherefore then are ye the last to bring back the king?
13 And say ye to Amasa, Art thou not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.
14 And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent this word unto the king, Return thou, and all thy servants.
15 So the king returned, and came to Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to conduct the king over Jordan.
16 And Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite, which was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.
17 And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went over Jordan before the king.
18 And there went over a ferry boat to carry over the king’s household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, as he was come over Jordan;
19 And said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.
20 For thy servant doth know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come the first this day of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.
21 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the Lord‘s anointed?
22 And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?
23 Therefore the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him.
24 And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in peace.
25 And it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth?
26 And he answered, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me: for thy servant said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go to the king; because thy servant is lame.
27 And he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes.
28 For all of my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king?
29 And the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I have said, Thou and Ziba divide the land.
30 And Mephibosheth said unto the king, Yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come again in peace unto his own house.
31 And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan.
32 Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king of sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.
33 And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will feed thee with me in Jerusalem.
34 And Barzillai said unto the king, How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?
35 I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?
36 Thy servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?
37 Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.
38 And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.
39 And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king was come over, the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.
40 Then the king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him: and all the people of Judah conducted the king, and also half the people of Israel.
41 And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and have brought the king, and his household, and all David’s men with him, over Jordan?
42 And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: wherefore then be ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king’s cost? or hath he given us any gift?
43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
