1 Lè wa Ezekyas tande pawòl sa yo, li chire rad sou li tèlman sa te fè l’ lapenn, li mete yon rad sak sou li, epi l’ al nan tanp Seyè a.
2 Li voye Elyakim, chèf moun k’ap travay nan palè a, ak Chebna, sekretè a, ansanm ak chèf prèt yo, bò kote pwofèt Ezayi, pitit Amòz la. Yo tout te gen rad sak sou yo.
3 Men mesaj Ezekyas te ba yo pou Ezayi: –Jodi a se jou malè pou nou! Bondye ap peni nou. Se yon wont pou nou. Nou tankou yon fanm ansent ki deja kase lèzo, men ki pa gen fòs pou li pouse pitit la soti.
4 Wa peyi Lasiri a te voye chèf gad palè li a manke Bondye vivan an dega. Se pou Seyè a, Bondye ou la, tande tout jouman sa yo. Se pou l’ peni moun ki di pawòl sa yo. Ou menm, lapriyè pou rès moun pèp nou an ki vivan toujou.
5 Lè moun wa Ezekyas yo al jwenn Ezayi,
6 men repons Ezayi ba yo pou wa Ezekyas: –Men sa Seyè a voye di ou: Ou pa bezwen pè tout pawòl ou tande yo, tout jouman moun wa Lasiri yo di sou mwen.
7 Mwen pral fè wa Lasiri a tande yon sèl nouvèl, li pral kouri tounen nan peyi l’. Rive li rive, m’ap fè yon moun touye l’.
8 Chèf gad palè a te vin konnen wa Lasiri a te pati kite Lakis pou l’ t al atake lavil Libna. Se la l’ al jwenn wa a,
9 paske wa a te pran nouvèl Tiraka, wa peyi Letiopi a, t’ap moute vin atake l’. Wa a voye lòt mesaje ankò bò kote Ezekyas.
10 Li di yo: –Men mesaj n’a bay Ezekyas, wa peyi Jida a, pou mwen. Ou mèt tande Bondye ou la, Bondye ou fè konfyans la, di ou Jerizalèm p’ap tonbe nan men wa Lasiri a, pa kite l’ twonpe ou.
11 Ou te pran nouvèl sa wa Lasiri yo te fè tout lòt peyi anvan ou yo. Yo te soti pou detwi yo nèt. Atò, se ou menm ki pou ta chape anba men m!
12 Lè zansèt mwen yo te touye dènye moun nan lavil Gozan, nan lavil Aran, nan lavil Rezèf ak dènye moun Betedenn yo ki rete lavil Telasa, èske bondye nasyon sa yo te delivre yo?
13 Kote wa lavil Amak la, wa lavil Apad la, wa lavil Sefarayim lan, wa lavil Ena a ak wa lavil Iva a?
14 Ezekyas pran lèt la nan men mesaje yo, li li l’. Apre sa, li pati al nan tanp lan, li mete lèt la devan lotèl Seyè a.
15 Epi li lapriyè Seyè a, li di l’ konsa: –Seyè ki gen tout pouvwa, Bondye pèp Izrayèl la, ou menm ki chita sou fotèy zanj cheriben yo ap pote sou zepòl yo a, se ou menm sèl Bondye k’ap gouvènen tout peyi sou latè. Se ou menm ki fè syèl la ak latè a.
16 Panche zòrèy ou non, Seyè, pou ou tande. Louvri je ou pou ou wè. Koute pawòl Senakerib voye di m’, pawòl ki manke Bondye vivan an dega!
17 Nou konnen, Seyè, wa peyi Lasiri yo te fini ak anpil nasyon, yo te detwi peyi yo.
18 Yo te boule tout bondye yo paske se pa t’ bondye yo te ye. Se estati fèt an bwa ak an wòch moun te fè ak men yo. Se poutèt sa yo te rive detwi yo.
19 Koulye a, Seyè, Bondye nou an, tanpri, delivre nou anba men Senakerib, pou tout nasyon ki sou latè ka konnen se ou menm sèl, Seyè, ki Bondye.
20 Lè sa a, Ezayi, pitit Amòz la, voye mesaj sa a bay Ezekyas: –Ou te lapriyè Seyè a, Bondye pèp Izrayèl la, pou Senakerib, wa peyi Lasiri a. Men repons li voye ba ou.
21 Men pawòl Seyè a di sou Senakerib: Lavil Jerizalèm ki sou mòn Siyon an ap ri ou, l’ap pase ou nan rizib. Moun lavil Jerizalèm yo ap rele chalbari dèyè ou.
22 Ki moun ou konprann ou derespekte, ou joure konsa? Sou ki moun ou pale fò konsa? Ki moun w’ap klere je ou gade konsa? Se sou Bondye pèp Izrayèl la ki yon Bondye apa.
23 Ou voye moun ou yo vin manke Bondye dega. Ou deklare: O wi, avèk tout kalite cha lagè m’ yo, mwen moute sou tèt tout mòn, ata sou tèt mòn Liban an. Mwen koupe pi gwo pye sèd li yo, pi bèl pye rezen li yo. Mwen rive jouk anwo nèt sou tèt li, nan mitan rakbwa li yo ki tankou bèl jaden.
24 Mwen fouye pi nan peyi moun lòt nasyon yo, mwen bwè dlo. Mwen cheche dlo nan tout larivyè Lejip yo pou sòlda mwen yo pase san pye yo pa mouye.
25 Ou pa t’ konnen gen lontan depi mwen te fè lide pou tou sa te rive? Gen lontan depi sa te nan tèt mwen? Koulye a, mwen kite sa rive, pou m’ te ka kraze tout lavil ak ranpa yo pou fè yo tounen yon pil demoli.
26 Moun ki te rete la te san fòs. Yo te pè, yo pa t’ konn sa pou yo fè. Yo te tankou raje nan jaden, tankou zèb gazon, tankou raje k’ap pouse sou do kay, tankou pye mayi ki cheche anvan li mete zepi.
27 Mwen konnen lè ou leve, mwen konnen lè ou chita. Mwen konnen lè ou soti, mwen konnen lè ou antre. Mwen pran nouvèl jan ou fin anraje sou mwen.
28 Koulye a, mwen vin konnen jan ou move sou mwen, jan ou vin awogan. Se poutèt sa, mwen mete yon fè won nan bwa nen ou, ak yon mò nan bouch ou. Mwen pral fè ou pran menm chimen ou te pran pou vini an pou ou tounen.
29 Apre sa, Izayi di wa Ezekyas konsa: –Men sa ki pral sèvi yon siy pou ou. Lanne sa a, n’a manje rès grenn ki te tonbe atè. Lanne k’ap vin apre sa a, n’a manje grenn nou pa t’ plante. Men, apre sa ankò, n’a ka plante, n’a ka fè rekòt. N’a plante pye rezen, n’a manje rezen.
30 Rès moun peyi Jida ki va chape yo va pran pye. Y’a kanpe ankò.
31 Va gen yon ti rès moun nan lavil Jerizalèm ak sou mòn Siyon an ki va chape. Se Seyè ki gen tout pouvwa a ki soti pou fè sa, paske li renmen ou anpil.
32 Men sa Seyè a di sou wa peyi Lasiri a: Li p’ap mete pye l’ nan lavil sa a. Li p’ap gen tan voye yon sèl grenn flèch sou li. P’ap gen yon sèl sòlda ak plak pwotèj k’ap pwoche bò kote l’. Ni yo p’ap fouye twou pou sènen l’.
33 Chemen li te pran pou l’ vini an, se li menm l’ap pran pou l’ tounen. Li p’ap mete pye l’ nan lavil sa a. Se mwen menm, Seyè a menm, ki di sa.
34 M’ap pwoteje lavil sa a. M’ap delivre l’ pou m’ fè respè tèt mwen, pou m’ kenbe pwomès mwen te fè David, sèvitè m’ lan.
35 Menm jou sa a, nan mitan lannwit, zanj Seyè a al nan kan moun Lasiri yo, li touye sankatrevensenk mil (185.000) sòlda. Nan maten, lè moun leve se kadav yo ase yo jwenn. Yo tout te mouri.
36 Senakerib, wa peyi Lasiri a, leve, li pati, li tounen lavil Neniv.
37 Yon jou, antan wa a t’ap fè sèvis nan tanp Niswòk, bondye li a, de nan pitit gason l’ yo touye l’ ak nepe yo, epi yo kouri al kache nan peyi Arara. Yo te rele Adramelèk ak Sarezè. Se yon lòt nan pitit gason li yo ki te rele Asaradon ki moute wa nan plas li.

1 Lorsque le roi Ézéchias eut entendu cela, il déchira ses vêtements, se couvrit d’un sac, et alla dans la maison de l’Éternel.
2 Il envoya Éliakim, chef de la maison du roi, Schebna, le secrétaire, et les plus anciens des sacrificateurs, couverts de sacs, vers Ésaïe, le prophète, fils d’Amots.
3 Et ils lui dirent: Ainsi parle Ézéchias: Ce jour est un jour d’angoisse, de châtiment et d’opprobre; car les enfants sont près de sortir du sein maternel, et il n’y a point de force pour l’enfantement.
4 Peut-être l’Éternel, ton Dieu, a-t-il entendu toutes les paroles de Rabschaké, que le roi d’Assyrie, son maître, a envoyé pour insulter au Dieu vivant, et peut-être l’Éternel, ton Dieu, exercera-t-il ses châtiments à cause des paroles qu’il a entendues. Fais donc monter une prière pour le reste qui subsiste encore.
5 Les serviteurs du roi Ézéchias allèrent donc auprès d’Ésaïe.
6 Et Ésaïe leur dit: Voici ce que vous direz à votre maître: Ainsi parle l’Éternel: Ne t’effraie point des paroles que tu as entendues et par lesquelles m’ont outragé les serviteurs du roi d’Assyrie.
7 Je vais mettre en lui un esprit tel que, sur une nouvelle qu’il recevra, il retournera dans son pays; et je le ferai tomber par l’épée dans son pays.
8 Rabschaké, s’étant retiré, trouva le roi d’Assyrie qui attaquait Libna, car il avait appris son départ de Lakis.
9 Alors le roi d’Assyrie reçut une nouvelle au sujet de Tirhaka, roi d’Éthiopie; on lui dit: Voici, il s’est mis en marche pour te faire la guerre. Et le roi d’Assyrie envoya de nouveau des messagers à Ézéchias, en disant:
10 Vous parlerez ainsi à Ézéchias, roi de Juda: Que ton Dieu, auquel tu te confies, ne t’abuse point en disant: Jérusalem ne sera pas livrée entre les mains du roi d’Assyrie.
11 Voici, tu as appris ce qu’ont fait les rois d’Assyrie à tous les pays, et comment ils les ont détruits; et toi, tu serais délivré!
12 Les dieux des nations que mes pères ont détruites les ont-ils délivrées, Gozan, Charan, Retseph, et les fils d’Éden qui sont à Telassar?
13 Où sont le roi de Hamath, le roi d’Arpad, et le roi de la ville de Sepharvaïm, d’Héna et d’Ivva?
14 Ézéchias prit la lettre de la main des messagers, et la lut. Puis il monta à la maison de l’Éternel, et la déploya devant l’Éternel,
15 à qui il adressa cette prière: Éternel, Dieu d’Israël, assis sur les chérubins! C’est toi qui es le seul Dieu de tous les royaumes de la terre, c’est toi qui as fait les cieux et la terre.
16 Éternel! incline ton oreille, et écoute. Éternel! ouvre tes yeux, et regarde. Entends les paroles de Sanchérib, qui a envoyé Rabschaké pour insulter au Dieu vivant.
17 Il est vrai, ô Éternel! que les rois d’Assyrie ont détruit les nations et ravagé leurs pays,
18 et qu’ils ont jeté leurs dieux dans le feu; mais ce n’étaient point des dieux, c’étaient des ouvrages de mains d’homme, du bois et de la pierre; et ils les ont anéantis.
19 Maintenant, Éternel, notre Dieu! délivre-nous de la main de Sanchérib, et que tous les royaumes de la terre sachent que toi seul es Dieu, ô Éternel!
20 Alors Ésaïe, fils d’Amots, envoya dire à Ézéchias: Ainsi parle l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël: J’ai entendu la prière que tu m’as adressée au sujet de Sanchérib, roi d’Assyrie.
21 Voici la parole que l’Éternel a prononcée contre lui: Elle te méprise, elle se moque de toi, La vierge, fille de Sion; Elle hoche la tête après toi, La fille de Jérusalem.
22 Qui as-tu insulté et outragé? Contre qui as-tu élevé la voix? Tu as porté tes yeux en haut Sur le Saint d’Israël!
23 Par tes messagers tu as insulté le Seigneur, Et tu as dit: Avec la multitude de mes chars, J’ai gravi le sommet des montagnes, Les extrémités du Liban; Je couperai les plus élevés de ses cèdres, Les plus beaux de ses cyprès, Et j’atteindrai sa dernière cime, Sa forêt semblable à un verger;
24 J’ai creusé, et j’ai bu des eaux étrangères, Et je tarirai avec la plante de mes pieds Tous les fleuves de l’Égypte.
25 N’as-tu pas appris que j’ai préparé ces choses de loin, Et que je les ai résolues dès les temps anciens? Maintenant j’ai permis qu’elles s’accomplissent, Et que tu réduisisses des villes fortes en monceaux de ruines.
26 Leurs habitants sont impuissants, Épouvantés et confus; Ils sont comme l’herbe des champs et la tendre verdure, Comme le gazon des toits Et le blé qui sèche avant la formation de sa tige.
27 Mais je sais quand tu t’assieds, quand tu sors et quand tu entres, Et quand tu es furieux contre moi.
28 Parce que tu es furieux contre moi, Et que ton arrogance est montée à mes oreilles, Je mettrai ma boucle à tes narines et mon mors entre tes lèvres, Et je te ferai retourner par le chemin par lequel tu es venu.
29 Que ceci soit un signe pour toi: On a mangé une année le produit du grain tombé, et une seconde année ce qui croît de soi-même; mais la troisième année, vous sèmerez, vous moissonnerez, vous planterez des vignes, et vous en mangerez le fruit.
30 Ce qui aura été sauvé de la maison de Juda, ce qui sera resté poussera encore des racines par-dessous, et portera du fruit par-dessus.
31 Car de Jérusalem il sortira un reste, et de la montagne de Sion des réchappés. Voilà ce que fera le zèle de l’Éternel des armées.
32 C’est pourquoi ainsi parle l’Éternel sur le roi d’Assyrie: Il n’entrera point dans cette ville, Il n’y lancera point de traits, Il ne lui présentera point de boucliers, Et il n’élèvera point de retranchements contre elle.
33 Il s’en retournera par le chemin par lequel il est venu, Et il n’entrera point dans cette ville, dit l’Éternel.
34 Je protégerai cette ville pour la sauver, A cause de moi, et à cause de David, mon serviteur.
35 Cette nuit-là, l’ange de l’Éternel sortit, et frappa dans le camp des Assyriens cent quatre-vingt-cinq mille hommes. Et quand on se leva le matin, voici, c’étaient tous des corps morts.
36 Alors Sanchérib, roi d’Assyrie, leva son camp, partit et s’en retourna; et il resta à Ninive.
37 Or, comme il était prosterné dans la maison de Nisroc, son dieu, Adrammélec et Scharetser, ses fils, le frappèrent avec l’épée, et s’enfuirent au pays d’Ararat. Et Ésar Haddon, son fils, régna à sa place.

And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord.
2 And he sent Eliakim, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
3 And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and blasphemy; for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.
4 It may be the Lord thy God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the Lord thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that are left.
5 So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
6 And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the Lord, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
7 Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
8 So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.
9 And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, he is come out to fight against thee: he sent messengers again unto Hezekiah, saying,
10 Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
11 Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered?
12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed; as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Thelasar?
13 Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivah?
14 And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up into the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord.
15 And Hezekiah prayed before the Lord, and said, O Lord God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth.
16 Lord, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, Lord, thine eyes, and see: and hear the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God.
17 Of a truth, Lord, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands,
18 And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.
19 Now therefore, O Lord our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the Lord God, even thou only.
20 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.
21 This is the word that the Lord hath spoken concerning him; The virgin the daughter of Zion hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.
22 Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.
23 By thy messengers thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall cedar trees thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel.
24 I have digged and drunk strange waters, and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of besieged places.
25 Hast thou not heard long ago how I have done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps.
26 Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the house tops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.
27 But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.
28 Because thy rage against me and thy tumult is come up into mine ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.
29 And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruits thereof.
30 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.
31 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the Lord of hosts shall do this.
32 Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.
33 By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the Lord.
34 For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.
35 And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the Lord went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.
37 And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.
