1 Kèk tan apre sa, moun peyi Moab yo ak moun peyi Amon yo mete ansanm ak moun Mawon yo, yo vin atake Jozafa.
2 Yo vin bay Jozafa nouvèl la, yo di l’ konsa: -Men yon gwo lame soti nan peyi Edon lòt bò Lanmè Mouri a vin atake ou. Yo gen tan pran lavil Azason Tama. Azason Tama, se yon lòt non yo te bay lavil Angedi.
3 Yon sèl laperèz pran Jozafa. Li pran desizyon mande Seyè a sa pou l’ fè. Li bay lòd pou tout moun nan peyi a fè jèn.
4 Moun soti toupatou nan lavil peyi Jida yo vin lapriyè nan pye Seyè a.
5 Jozafa rete kanpe nan mitan tout pèp peyi Jida a, ansanm ak pèp lavil Jerizalèm lan, devan lakou nèf Tanp Seyè a.
6 Li lapriyè byen fò, li di: -Seyè, Bondye zansèt nou yo, se ou menm ki Bondye nan syèl la. Se ou menm k’ap gouvènen tout nasyon sou latè a. Se nan men ou tout fòs ak tout pouvwa ye. Pesonn pa ka kenbe tèt avè ou.
7 Ou se Bondye nou. Se ou menm ki te mete tout moun ki te rete nan peyi sa a deyò fè plas pou pèp Izrayèl la. Lèfini, ou bay tout pitit Abraram, zanmi ou lan, peyi a pou l’ rele yo pa yo pou tout tan.
8 Se isit la yo rete, yo bati yon tanp pou ou. Yo te di
9 nenpòt malè ki ta ka tonbe sou yo pou pini yo: te mèt lagè, te mèt chatiman, te mèt move maladi osinon grangou, y’ap vin kanpe devan ou, devan Tanp sa a, paske se nan Tanp sa a ou ye. Nan tout mizè yo, y’a lapriyè nan pye ou. W’a tande yo, w’a delivre yo.
10 Koulye a, men moun peyi Amon yo, moun peyi Moab yo ak moun peyi Edon yo vin atake nou. Lè zansèt nou yo t’ap soti kite peyi Lejip, ou pa t’ kite yo antre nan peyi moun sa yo. Se konsa yo te chankre pou yo pa t’ pase lakay yo, yo pa detwi yo.
11 Gade ki jan y’ap fè nou peye sa jòdi a! Men y’ap vin mete nou deyò nan peyi ou te ban nou an!
12 Ou se Bondye nou. Se ou menm ki pou pini yo paske nou pa gen fòs pou n’ kanpe devan tout gwo lame sa a k’ap vin atake nou an. Nou pa konn sa pou nou fè! N’ap tann sa ou pral fè pou nou.
13 Tout mesye peyi Jida yo te kanpe la devan kay Seyè a, ansanm ak madanm yo, pitit yo ak pitit pitit yo.
14 Lespri Seyè a desann sou yon moun Levi ki te la nan mitan yo. Li te rele Jaziyèl. Se te yon moun nan branch fanmi Zakari. Zakari sa a te pitit Benaja ki te pitit Jeyèl. Jeyèl te pitit Matanya ki te pitit Asaf.
15 Jaziyèl di konsa: -Louvri zòrèy nou, nou tout moun peyi Jida, moun lavil Jerizalèm ansanm ak ou menm, wa Jozafa. Seyè a voye di nou: Pa dekouraje. Nou pa bezwen pè devan gwo lame sa a. Batay sa a se pa batay pa nou, se batay Bondye menm.
16 Denmen, nou mèt desann al atake yo. Yo pral pase moute sou ti bit flè yo. N’a kontre ak yo nan pwent ravin ki mennen nan dezè bò Jewouyèl la.
17 Nou p’ap bezwen nan goumen menm. N’ap annik pran pozisyon nou. Apre sa, tann. N’ap wè Seyè a ap ban nou gany. Wi, nou menm moun peyi Jida ak moun lavil Jerizalèm, nou pa bezwen pè, nou pa bezwen gen kè kase. Denmen, mache pran yo, paske Seyè a ap kanpe la avèk nou.
18 Lè sa a, wa Jozafa mete ajenou, li bese tèt li byen ba devan Seyè a jouk fwon li rive atè. Tout moun peyi Jida yo ak moun lavil Jerizalèm yo bese tèt yo byen ba devan Seyè a tou pou adore l’.
19 Moun Levi branch fanmi Keyat yo ansanm ak moun Levi branch fanmi Kore yo leve kanpe, yo pran fè lwanj Seyè a, Bondye pèp Izrayèl la, byen fò.
20 Nan denmen maten, byen bonè, pèp la leve, li pati pou dezè Tekoa a. Le yo tapral leve lamach, Jozafa pale ak yo, li di konsa: -Nou menm moun peyi Jida ak moun lavil Jerizalèm, koute sa m’ap di nou! Mete konfyans nou nan Seyè a, Bondye nou an! Nou p’ap vole gadjè. Se pou nou kwè sa pwofèt li yo di nou an. N’ap genyen batay la.
21 Apre sa, li fè yon pale ak pèp la. Li fè kèk mizisyen pran mache devan sòlda yo ak rad yo konn mete lè gen gwo fèt seremoni. Yo t’ap mache devan sòlda yo, yo t’ap chante: -Lwanj pou Seyè a! Li p’ap janm sispann renmen nou!
22 Lè yo tanmen chante ak kè kontan pou fè lwanj Seyè a, Seyè a lage yon sèl bouyay nan mitan moun Amon yo, moun Moab yo ak moun mòn Seyi yo ki te vin atake peyi Jida a, yo pèdi batay la.
23 Moun peyi Amon yo ak moun peyi Moab yo atake lame moun mòn Seyi yo, yo detwi yo nèt. Lèfini, yo vire yonn sou lòt nan yon chen manje chen, yonn touye lòt.
24 Lè moun peyi Jida yo rive sou tèt yon ti bit kote yo ka wè tout dezè a, yo voye je yo gade kote lènmi yo ye a, yo wè yo tout te kouche mouri atè a. Pat gen yon moun ki te chape.
25 Jozafa ansanm ak lame li a desann al piye tou sa lènmi yo te kite. yo jwenn kantite bèt, pwovizyon, rad ak anpil lòt bagay ki te gen valè. Yo pase twa jou ap ranmase. Men te gen sitelman, yo pa t’ ka pran tout pote ale.
26 Sou katriyèm jou a, yo sanble nan fon benediksyon an pou fè lwanj Seyè a pou tou sa li te fè pou yo. Se poutèt sa yo rele fon an Beraka, non ki rete pou li jouk jounen jòdi a.
27 Lèfini, tout moun peyi Jida yo ak moun lavil Jerizalèm yo ak wa Jozafa alatèt yo tounen lavil Jerizalèm ak gwo kè kontan, paske se Seyè a menm ki te ba yo okazyon fè fèt sou do lènmi yo.
28 Lè yo rive lavil Jerizalèm, yo ale nan Tanp Seyè a, pandan yo t’ap jwe gita, bandjo ak twonpèt.
29 Lè moun lòt nasyon yo vin konnen jan Seyè a te kraze lènmi peyi Jida yo, yo tout te soti pè anpil.
30 Se konsa rèy Jozafa a pase dous, san bri san kont. Bondye te fè tout peyi ki te nan vwazinaj yo viv byen avè l’.
31 Lè Jozafa moute sou fotèy wa peyi Jida a, li te gen trannsenkan sou tèt li. Li pase vennsenkan ap gouvènen lavil Jerizalèm. Manman l’ te rele Azouba. Se te pitit fi Chilki.
32 Jozafa te swiv Asa, papa l’, pye pou pye nan tou sa li te fè. Li te fè sa ki dwat devan Seyè a.
33 Tansèlman, tanp zidòl yo te la toujou nan peyi a, kifè pèp la pa t’ap sèvi Bondye zansèt yo a ak tout kè yo.
34 Tou sa Jozafa te fè depi premye jou li te moute wa a rive jouk dènye jou a, n’a jwenn sa ekri nan liv Istwa Jeou, pitit Anani an, ki yon pòsyon nan liv Istwa Wa peyi Izrayèl yo.
35 Yon lè, Jozafa, wa peyi Jida a, te pase kontra ak Okozyas, wa peyi Izrayèl la, ki te fè anpil bagay ki te mal devan Seyè a.
36 Yo mete ansanm, yo fè fè anpil gwo batiman nan pò lavil Ezyongebè pou al fè trafik sou lanmè jouk nan peyi Tasis.
37 Men Elyezè, pitit gason Dodava a, moun lavil Marecha, te avèti Jozafa. Li te di l’: -Paske ou te mete tèt ou ak Okozyas, Seyè a pral kraze sa ou te bati a. Batiman yo kraze, yo pa janm rive vwayaje pou peyi Tasis.

1 Après cela, les fils de Moab et les fils d’Ammon, et avec eux des Maonites, marchèrent contre Josaphat pour lui faire la guerre.
2 On vint en informer Josaphat, en disant: Une multitude nombreuse s’avance contre toi depuis l’autre côté de la mer, depuis la Syrie, et ils sont à Hatsatson Thamar, qui est En Guédi.
3 Dans sa frayeur, Josaphat se disposa à chercher l’Éternel, et il publia un jeûne pour tout Juda.
4 Juda s’assembla pour invoquer l’Éternel, et l’on vint de toutes les villes de Juda pour chercher l’Éternel.
5 Josaphat se présenta au milieu de l’assemblée de Juda et de Jérusalem, dans la maison de l’Éternel, devant le nouveau parvis.
6 Et il dit: Éternel, Dieu de nos pères, n’es-tu pas Dieu dans les cieux, et n’est-ce pas toi qui domines sur tous les royaumes des nations? N’est-ce pas toi qui as en main la force et la puissance, et à qui nul ne peut résister?
7 N’est-ce pas toi, ô notre Dieu, qui as chassé les habitants de ce pays devant ton peuple d’Israël, et qui l’as donné pour toujours à la postérité d’Abraham qui t’aimait?
8 Ils l’ont habité, et ils t’y ont bâti un sanctuaire pour ton nom, en disant:
9 S’il nous survient quelque calamité, l’épée, le jugement, la peste ou la famine, nous nous présenterons devant cette maison et devant toi, car ton nom est dans cette maison, nous crierons à toi du sein de notre détresse, et tu exauceras et tu sauveras!
10 Maintenant voici, les fils d’Ammon et de Moab et ceux de la montagne de Séir, chez lesquels tu n’as pas permis à Israël d’entrer quand il venait du pays d’Égypte, -car il s’est détourné d’eux et ne les a pas détruits, –
11 les voici qui nous récompensent en venant nous chasser de ton héritage, dont tu nous as mis en possession.
12 O notre Dieu, n’exerceras-tu pas tes jugements sur eux? Car nous sommes sans force devant cette multitude nombreuse qui s’avance contre nous, et nous ne savons que faire, mais nos yeux sont sur toi.
13 Tout Juda se tenait debout devant l’Éternel, avec leurs petits enfants, leurs femmes et leurs fils.
14 Alors l’esprit de l’Éternel saisit au milieu de l’assemblée Jachaziel, fils de Zacharie, fils de Benaja, fils de Jeïel, fils de Matthania, Lévite, d’entre les fils d’Asaph.
15 Et Jachaziel dit: Soyez attentifs, tout Juda et habitants de Jérusalem, et toi, roi Josaphat! Ainsi vous parle l’Éternel: Ne craignez point et ne vous effrayez point devant cette multitude nombreuse, car ce ne sera pas vous qui combattrez, ce sera Dieu.
16 Demain, descendez contre eux; ils vont monter par la colline de Tsits, et vous les trouverez à l’extrémité de la vallée, en face du désert de Jeruel.
17 Vous n’aurez point à combattre en cette affaire: présentez-vous, tenez-vous là, et vous verrez la délivrance que l’Éternel vous accordera. Juda et Jérusalem, ne craignez point et ne vous effrayez point, demain, sortez à leur rencontre, et l’Éternel sera avec vous!
18 Josaphat s’inclina le visage contre terre, et tout Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem tombèrent devant l’Éternel pour se prosterner en sa présence.
19 Les Lévites d’entre les fils des Kehathites et d’entre les fils des Koréites se levèrent pour célébrer d’une voix forte et haute l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël.
20 Le lendemain, ils se mirent en marche de grand matin pour le désert de Tekoa. A leur départ, Josaphat se présenta et dit: Écoutez-moi, Juda et habitants de Jérusalem! Confiez-vous en l’Éternel, votre Dieu, et vous serez affermis; confiez-vous en ses prophètes, et vous réussirez.
21 Puis, d’accord avec le peuple, il nomma des chantres qui, revêtus d’ornements sacrés, et marchant devant l’armée, célébraient l’Éternel et disaient: Louez l’Éternel, car sa miséricorde dure à toujours!
22 Au moment où l’on commençait les chants et les louanges, l’Éternel plaça une embuscade contre les fils d’Ammon et de Moab et ceux de la montagne de Séir, qui étaient venus contre Juda. Et ils furent battus.
23 Les fils d’Ammon et de Moab se jetèrent sur les habitants de la montagne de Séir pour les dévouer par interdit et les exterminer; et quand ils en eurent fini avec les habitants de Séir, ils s’aidèrent les uns les autres à se détruire.
24 Lorsque Juda fut arrivé sur la hauteur d’où l’on aperçoit le désert, ils regardèrent du côté de la multitude, et voici, c’étaient des cadavres étendus à terre, et personne n’avait échappé.
25 Josaphat et son peuple allèrent prendre leurs dépouilles; ils trouvèrent parmi les cadavres d’abondantes richesses et des objets précieux, et ils en enlevèrent tant qu’ils ne purent tout emporter. Ils mirent trois jours au pillage du butin, car il était considérable.
26 Le quatrième jour, ils s’assemblèrent dans la vallée de Beraca, où ils bénirent l’Éternel; c’est pourquoi ils appelèrent ce lieu vallée de Beraca, nom qui lui est resté jusqu’à ce jour.
27 Tous les hommes de Juda et de Jérusalem, ayant à leur tête Josaphat, partirent joyeux pour retourner à Jérusalem, car l’Éternel les avait remplis de joie en les délivrant de leurs ennemis.
28 Ils entrèrent à Jérusalem et dans la maison de l’Éternel, au son des luths, des harpes et des trompettes.
29 La terreur de l’Éternel s’empara de tous les royaumes des autres pays, lorsqu’ils apprirent que l’Éternel avait combattu contre les ennemis d’Israël.
30 Et le royaume de Josaphat fut tranquille, et son Dieu lui donna du repos de tous côtés.
31 Josaphat régna sur Juda. Il avait trente-cinq ans lorsqu’il devint roi, et il régna vingt-cinq ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s’appelait Azuba, fille de Schilchi.
32 Il marcha dans la voie de son père Asa, et ne s’en détourna point, faisant ce qui est droit aux yeux de l’Éternel.
33 Seulement, les hauts lieux ne disparurent point, et le peuple n’avait point encore le coeur fermement attaché au Dieu de ses pères.
34 Le reste des actions de Josaphat, les premières et les dernières, cela est écrit dans les mémoires de Jéhu, fils de Hanani, lesquels sont insérés dans le livre des rois d’Israël.
35 Après cela, Josaphat, roi de Juda, s’associa avec le roi d’Israël, Achazia, dont la conduite était impie.
36 Il s’associa avec lui pour construire des navires destinés à aller à Tarsis, et ils firent les navires à Etsjon Guéber.
37 Alors Éliézer, fils de Dodava, de Maréscha, prophétisa contre Josaphat, et dit: Parce que tu t’es associé avec Achazia, l’Éternel détruit ton oeuvre. Et les navires furent brisés, et ne purent aller à Tarsis.

1 It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
2 Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi.
3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
4 And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the Lord: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.
5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court,
6 And said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?
7 Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
8 And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,
9 If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.
10 And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;
11 Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.
12 O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.
13 And all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
14 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the Lord in the midst of the congregation;
15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
16 To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.
18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord.
19 And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high.
20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever.
22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.
24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
25 And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.
26 And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the Lord: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.
27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the Lord had made them to rejoice over their enemies.
28 And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the Lord.
29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the Lord fought against the enemies of Israel.
30 So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.
31 And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
32 And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the Lord.
33 Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.
35 And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:
36 And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Eziongaber.
37 Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the Lord hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
