1 Apre sa, kèk tan pase. Chechrès la t’ap mache sou twazan depi li t’ap bat peyi a. Lè sa a, Seyè a pale ak Eli, li di l’ konsa: -Al parèt devan wa Akab. Mwen pral fè lapli tonbe.
2 Eli pati pou l’ al devan wa Akab. Grangou a te rèd anpil pou moun lavil Samari yo.
3 Akab te fè rele Abdyas ki te reskonsab palè a. Abdyas sa a te sèvi Seyè a ak tout kè li.
4 Lè larenn Jezabèl t’ap fè touye pwofèt Seyè yo, li menm Abdyas te sove san (100) ladan yo. Li te kache yo nan de gwòt, li te mete senkant nan chak gwòt. Lèfini, li ba yo manje, li ba yo bwè.
5 Akab te di Abdyas: -Nou pral mache nan tout peyi a, nou pral gade bò tout sous dlo, nan tout ravin kote nou ka jwenn zèb pou bay chwal yo ak milèt yo. Konsa nou p’ap bezwen touye ladan yo.
6 Yo separe peyi a fè de zòn, yo chak pran yon zòn pou yo mache al chache zèb. Se konsa Akab pran yon chemen, Abdyas pran yon lòt chemen.
7 Antan Abdyas ap mache konsa, li tonbe bab pou bab ak Eli. Li rekonèt li, li bese tèt li jouk atè devan li. Li mande l’: -Se ou menm vre, Eli, mèt mwen?
8 Eli reponn: -Wi, se mwen! Ale di wa a, mèt ou a, men m’ isit la!
9 Abdyas reponn: -Kisa m’ fè ki mal pou ou voye m’ al chache lanmò nan men wa Akab?
10 Mwen pran Seyè ki vivan an, Bondye ou la, pou temwen, pa gen peyi sou latè kote wa a pa fè chache ou. Chak fwa nan yon peyi yo di l’ ou pa lakay yo, wa Akab te fòse chèf la ak tout pèp la fè sèman yo pa t’ jwenn ou.
11 Epi, koulye a ou vle pou m’ al di li men ou isit la?
12 Bon, vire m’ vire do m’ ale la a, si lespri Seyè a pran ou, li pote ou yon kote m’ pa konnen, lè m’a di wa Akab ou isit la, lè l’a vini li pa wè ou, l’ap touye m’. Chonje mwen menm m’ap sèvi Seyè a ak krentif depi mwen piti.
13 Mèt, yo pa janm rakonte ou sa m’ te fè lè Jezabèl t’ap touye pwofèt Seyè yo? Mwen kache san (100) pwofèt nan de gwòt, senkant nan chak gwòt, mwen ba yo manje, mwen ba yo bwè.
14 Men koulye a ou vle pou m’ al di wa a men ou isit la! L’ap touye m’!
15 Eli reponn li: -Mwen pran Seyè m’ap sèvi a, Bondye ki gen tout pouvwa a, pou temwen. Jòdi a m’ap parèt devan Akab!
16 Se konsa Abdyas pati, li jwenn Akab, li fè l’ rapò. Akab vin kontre Eli.
17 Wè Akab wè Eli, li di l’: -Apa ou sa! Se ou menm k’ap rale malè sou pèp Izrayèl la konsa!
18 Eli reponn li: -Se pa mwen ki rale malè sou pèp Izrayèl la. Se ou menm ak tout fanmi papa ou yo ki lakòz, paske nou dezobeyi lòd Seyè a te bay, n’ al adore zidòl Baal yo.
19 Koulye a, bay lòd pou tout moun pèp Izrayèl yo vin sanble bò kote m’ sou mòn Kamèl la. Gen katsansenkant (450) pwofèt Baal ak katsan (400) pwofèt zidòl fanm yo rele Astate a Jezabèl ap pran swen. Fè yo vini tou.
20 Akab voye chache tout pèp Izrayèl la. Li fè sanble tout pwofèt Baal yo sou mòn Kamèl la.
21 Eli al kanpe devan pèp la, li di yo: -Kilè n’a sispann woule de bò! Si se Seyè a ki Bondye, se li pou n’ sèvi. Si se Baal ki Bondye, se li pou n’ sèvi! Men pèp la pa di yon mo.
22 Eli di yo: -Nan tout pwofèt Seyè a, se mwen menm ase ki rete. Men gen katsansenkant (450) pwofèt Baal.
23 Mennen de jenn towo ban nou. Pwofèt Baal yo va chwazi yonn, y’a touye l’, y’a koupe l’ an moso, y’a mete l’ sou yon pil bwa, men piga yo limen dife. Mwen menm m’a fè menm jan an tou ak lòt towo a. m’a mete l’ sou yon pil bwa, mwen p’ap limen dife.
24 y’a rele bondye yo a. Mwen menm, m’a rele Seyè a. Sa ki va voye dife pou reponn lan se li ki Bondye. Tout pèp la reponn: -Nou dakò!
25 Lè sa a, Eli di pwofèt Baal yo: -Nou anpil, mwen ban nou devan. Chwazi yon towo. Pare li. Lèfini, rele bondye nou an. Men, pa mete dife nan bwa a.
26 Pwofèt Baal yo pran towo yo ba yo a, yo pare l’. Lèfini, yo pran rele Baal depi nan maten rive vè midi. Yo t’ap di: -Baal o! Reponn nou non! Yo t’ap danse fè wonn lotèl yo te moute a. Pa yon vwa, pa yon repons.
27 Vè midi, Eli tanmen pase yo nan betiz. Li di yo: -Rele pi fò non! Se bondye li ye. Li dwe okipe anpil. Li ka ap kalkile, osinon li nan vwayaj. Li ka ap dòmi tou. Se pou nou leve l’.
28 Pwofèt yo pran rele pi fò. Yo pran nepe ak kouto, yo make tout kò yo jan yo te konn fè l’ la. San t’ap koule sou yo konsa.
29 Lè midi fin pase, yo pran rele Baal pi rèd toujou jouk lè pou yo fè ofrann apremidi a rive. Men, ankenn vwa pa reponn! Anyen pa pati.
30 Lè sa a, Eli mande pèp la pou yo pwoche bò kote l’. Lè yo pwoche vin jwenn li, li rebati lotèl Seyè a paske yo te kraze l’.
31 Li pran douz wòch, yonn pou chak branch fanmi pitit Jakòb yo. Se Seyè a ki te bay Jakòb non Izrayèl li pote a.
32 Li pran wòch yo, li rebati lotèl Seyè a. Li fouye yon kannal fè wonn lotèl la. Kannal la te ka pran kat galon dlo.
33 Li ranje bwa yo sou lotèl la, li dekoupe towo a, li mete moso vyann yo sou bwa yo. Lèfini li di: -Plen kat krich dlo vide yo sou ofrann lan ak sou bwa yo. Apre yo fè sa,
34 li di yo: -Fè l’ yon dezyèm fwa. Apre yo fè l’, li di yo ankò: -Fè l’ yon twazyèm fwa. Yo fè l’ ankò.
35 Dlo a koule tout atè bò lotèl la, li plen kannal la.
36 Lè lè pou yo fè ofrann apremidi a rive, pwofèt Eli pwoche bò lotèl la, li di: -Seyè, Bondye Abraram, Bondye Izarak ak Bondye Jakòb, fè yo wè jòdi a se ou menm ki Bondye pèp Izrayèl la. Fè yo rekonèt se sèvitè ou mwen ye. Se ou menm ki ban m’ lòd fè tout bagay sa yo.
37 Reponn mwen, Seyè! Reponn mwen pou pèp sa a ka konnen se ou menm Seyè a ki Bondye, pou yo rekonèt se ou menm k’ap fè yo tounen vin jwenn ou.
38 Seyè a voye dife soti nan syèl la, li boule ofrann lan, bwa yo, wòch yo ak anplasman kote lotèl la te ye a, li fè tout dlo ki te nan kannal la cheche.
39 Lè pèp la wè sa, yo tonbe fas atè, yo pran rele: -Se Seyè a ki Bondye! Se Seyè a ki Bondye!
40 Lè sa a, Eli di yo: -Mete men sou pwofèt Baal yo! Pa kite yonn chape. Pèp la mete men sou tout pwofèt yo. Eli mennen yo desann nan ravin Kison an, li touye yo.
41 Apre sa Eli di wa Akab konsa: -Koulye a, ou mèt al manje, ou mèt al bwè. Mwen tande bri lapli a k’ap vini.
42 Akab al manje, l’ al bwè. Eli menm moute sou tèt mòn Kamèl. Li mete ajenou, li bese tèt li jouk atè.
43 Li di domestik li a: -Al gade bò lanmè a. Domestik la ale, li gade. Li tounen, li di: -M’ pa wè anyen! Pandan sèt fwa Eli di li al gade.
44 Sou setyèm fwa a, domestik la di l’: -Mwen wè yon ti nwaj k’ap moute sot lòt bò lanmè a. Li gwosè yon pla men. Lè sa a Eli bay domestik li a lòd sa a: -Al jwenn wa Akab, w’a di l’: Moute sou cha ou, al lakay ou anvan lapli a bare ou.
45 Yon sèl lè a, syèl la gen tan kouvri ak nwaj nwa. Van an tanmen soufle, yon gwo lapli pran tonbe. Akab moute sou cha li, li pati pou Jizreyèl.
46 Pouvwa Seyè a vin sou Eli. Eli mare rad li nan ren, li pran kouri devan Akab jouk yo rive lavil Jizreyèl.

1 Bien des jours s’écoulèrent, et la parole de l’Éternel fut ainsi adressée à Élie, dans la troisième année: Va, présente-toi devant Achab, et je ferai tomber de la pluie sur la face du sol.
2 Et Élie alla, pour se présenter devant Achab. La famine était grande à Samarie.
3 Et Achab fit appeler Abdias, chef de sa maison. -Or Abdias craignait beaucoup l’Éternel;
4 et lorsque Jézabel extermina les prophètes de l’Éternel, Abdias prit cent prophètes qu’il cacha cinquante par cinquante dans une caverne, et il les avait nourris de pain et d’eau. –
5 Achab dit à Abdias: Va par le pays vers toutes les sources d’eau et vers tous les torrents; peut-être se trouvera-t-il de l’herbe, et nous conserverons la vie aux chevaux et aux mulets, et nous n’aurons pas besoin d’abattre du bétail.
6 Ils se partagèrent le pays pour le parcourir; Achab alla seul par un chemin, et Abdias alla seul par un autre chemin.
7 Comme Abdias était en route, voici, Élie le rencontra. Abdias, l’ayant reconnu, tomba sur son visage, et dit: Est-ce toi, mon seigneur Élie?
8 Il lui répondit: C’est moi; va, dis à ton maître: Voici Élie!
9 Et Abdias dit: Quel péché ai-je commis, pour que tu livres ton serviteur entre les mains d’Achab, qui me fera mourir?
10 L’Éternel est vivant! il n’est ni nation ni royaume où mon maître n’ait envoyé pour te chercher; et quand on disait que tu n’y étais pas, il faisait jurer le royaume et la nation que l’on ne t’avait pas trouvé.
11 Et maintenant tu dis: Va, dis à ton maître: Voici Élie!
12 Puis, lorsque je t’aurai quitté l’esprit de l’Éternel te transportera je ne sais où; et j’irai informer Achab, qui ne te trouvera pas, et qui me tuera. Cependant ton serviteur craint l’Éternel dès sa jeunesse.
13 N’a-t-on pas dit à mon seigneur ce que j’ai fait quand Jézabel tua les prophètes de l’Éternel? J’ai caché cent prophètes de l’Éternel, cinquante par cinquante dans une caverne, et je les ai nourris de pain et d’eau.
14 Et maintenant tu dis: Va, dis à ton maître: Voici Élie! Il me tuera.
15 Mais Élie dit: L’Éternel des armées, dont je suis le serviteur, est vivant! aujourd’hui je me présenterai devant Achab.
16 Abdias, étant allé à la rencontre d’Achab, l’informa de la chose. Et Achab se rendit au-devant d’Élie.
17 A peine Achab aperçut-il Élie qu’il lui dit: Est-ce toi, qui jettes le trouble en Israël?
18 Élie répondit: Je ne trouble point Israël; c’est toi, au contraire, et la maison de ton père, puisque vous avez abandonné les commandements de l’Éternel et que tu es allé après les Baals.
19 Fais maintenant rassembler tout Israël auprès de moi, à la montagne du Carmel, et aussi les quatre cent cinquante prophètes de Baal et les quatre cents prophètes d’Astarté qui mangent à la table de Jézabel.
20 Achab envoya des messagers vers tous les enfants d’Israël, et il rassembla les prophètes à la montagne du Carmel.
21 Alors Élie s’approcha de tout le peuple, et dit: Jusqu’à quand clocherez-vous des deux côtés? Si l’Éternel est Dieu, allez après lui; si c’est Baal, allez après lui! Le peuple ne lui répondit rien.
22 Et Élie dit au peuple: Je suis resté seul des prophètes de l’Éternel, et il y a quatre cent cinquante prophètes de Baal.
23 Que l’on nous donne deux taureaux; qu’ils choisissent pour eux l’un des taureaux, qu’ils le coupent par morceaux, et qu’ils le placent sur le bois, sans y mettre le feu; et moi, je préparerai l’autre taureau, et je le placerai sur le bois, sans y mettre le feu.
24 Puis invoquez le nom de votre dieu; et moi, j’invoquerai le nom de l’Éternel. Le dieu qui répondra par le feu, c’est celui-là qui sera Dieu. Et tout le peuple répondit, en disant: C’est bien!
25 Élie dit aux prophètes de Baal: Choisissez pour vous l’un des taureaux, préparez-le les premiers, car vous êtes les plus nombreux, et invoquez le nom de votre dieu; mais ne mettez pas le feu.
26 Ils prirent le taureau qu’on leur donna, et le préparèrent; et ils invoquèrent le nom de Baal, depuis le matin jusqu’à midi, en disant: Baal réponds nous! Mais il n’y eut ni voix ni réponse. Et ils sautaient devant l’autel qu’ils avaient fait.
27 A midi, Élie se moqua d’eux, et dit: Criez à haute voix, puisqu’il est dieu; il pense à quelque chose, ou il est occupé, ou il est en voyage; peut-être qu’il dort, et il se réveillera.
28 Et ils crièrent à haute voix, et ils se firent, selon leur coutume, des incisions avec des épées et avec des lances, jusqu’à ce que le sang coulât sur eux.
29 Lorsque midi fut passé, ils prophétisèrent jusqu’au moment de la présentation de l’offrande. Mais il n’y eut ni voix, ni réponse, ni signe d’attention.
30 Élie dit alors à tout le peuple: Approchez-vous de moi! Tout le peuple s’approcha de lui. Et Élie rétablit l’autel de l’Éternel, qui avait été renversé.
31 Il prit douze pierres d’après le nombre des tribus des fils de Jacob, auquel l’Éternel avait dit: Israël sera ton nom;
32 et il bâtit avec ces pierres un autel au nom de l’Éternel. Il fit autour de l’autel un fossé de la capacité de deux mesures de semence.
33 Il arrangea le bois, coupa le taureau par morceaux, et le plaça sur le bois.
34 Puis il dit: Remplissez d’eau quatre cruches, et versez-les sur l’holocauste et sur le bois. Il dit: Faites-le une seconde fois. Et ils le firent une seconde fois. Il dit: Faites-le une troisième fois. Et ils le firent une troisième fois.
35 L’eau coula autour de l’autel, et l’on remplit aussi d’eau le fossé.
36 Au moment de la présentation de l’offrande, Élie, le prophète, s’avança et dit: Éternel, Dieu d’Abraham, d’Isaac et d’Israël! que l’on sache aujourd’hui que tu es Dieu en Israël, que je suis ton serviteur, et que j’ai fait toutes ces choses par ta parole!
37 Réponds-moi, Éternel, réponds-moi, afin que ce peuple reconnaisse que c’est toi, Éternel, qui es Dieu, et que c’est toi qui ramènes leur coeur!
38 Et le feu de l’Éternel tomba, et il consuma l’holocauste, le bois, les pierres et la terre, et il absorba l’eau qui était dans le fossé.
39 Quand tout le peuple vit cela, ils tombèrent sur leur visage et dirent: C’est l’Éternel qui est Dieu! C’est l’Éternel qui est Dieu!
40 Saisissez les prophètes de Baal, leur dit Élie; qu’aucun d’eux n’échappe! Et ils les saisirent. Élie les fit descendre au torrent de Kison, où il les égorgea.
41 Et Élie dit à Achab: Monte, mange et bois; car il se fait un bruit qui annonce la pluie.
42 Achab monta pour manger et pour boire. Mais Élie monta au sommet du Carmel; et, se penchant contre terre, il mit son visage entre ses genoux,
43 et dit à son serviteur: Monte, regarde du côté de la mer. Le serviteur monta, il regarda, et dit: Il n’y a rien. Élie dit sept fois: Retourne.
44 A la septième fois, il dit: Voici un petit nuage qui s’élève de la mer, et qui est comme la paume de la main d’un homme. Élie dit: Monte, et dis à Achab: Attelle et descends, afin que la pluie ne t’arrête pas.
45 En peu d’instants, le ciel s’obscurcit par les nuages, le vent s’établit, et il y eut une forte pluie. Achab monta sur son char, et partit pour Jizreel.
46 Et la main de l’Éternel fut sur Élie, qui se ceignit les reins et courut devant Achab jusqu’à l’entrée de Jizreel.

1 And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the Lord came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.
2 And Elijah went to shew himself unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria.
3 And Ahab called Obadiah, which was the governor of his house. (Now Obadiah feared the Lord greatly:
4 For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the Lord, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)
5 And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all brooks: peradventure we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts.
6 So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.
7 And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou that my lord Elijah?
8 And he answered him, I am: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.
9 And he said, What have I sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me?
10 As the Lord thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.
11 And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.
12 And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the Lord shall carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me: but I thy servant fear the Lord from my youth.
13 Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the Lord, how I hid an hundred men of the Lord‘s prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?
14 And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here: and he shall slay me.
15 And Elijah said, As the Lord of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely shew myself unto him to day.
16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him: and Ahab went to meet Elijah.
17 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?
18 And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and thou hast followed Baalim.
19 Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel’s table.
20 So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.
21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
22 Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the Lord; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:
24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
25 And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under.
26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.
27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.
28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.
29 And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.
31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the Lord came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:
32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.
33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.
34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.
35 And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.
36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
37 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
38 Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God.
40 And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.
41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,
43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down that the rain stop thee not.
45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.
46 And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
