Esdras 5
1 Lè sa a, de pwofèt, Aje ak Zakari, pitit gason Ido a, tanmen bay mesaj ki soti nan Bondye pèp Izrayèl la, pou jwif ki rete nan peyi Jida ak lavil Jerizalèm yo.
2 Lè Zowobabèl, pitit gason Chealtyèl la, ak Jozye, pitit gason Jeozadak la, tande mesaj yo, lamenm yo konmanse rebati tanp Bondye a lavil Jerizalèm. De pwofèt yo menm te kanpe la avèk moun yo, ap ankouraje yo.
3 Lè sa a, Tatenayi, gouvènè pwovens lòt bò larivyè Lefrat la, Cheta-Boznayi ak lòt anplwaye gouvènman parèy yo, moute lavil Jerizalèm, yo mande jwif yo: -Ki moun ki ban nou otorizasyon rebati tanp sa a pou nou mete lotèl ladan l’?
4 Apre sa, yo mande yo ankò: -Eske nou ka ban nou non tout moun k’ap travay sou chantye sa a?
5 Men Bondye t’ap veye chèf fanmi jwif yo pou anyen pa t’ rive yo. Se konsa, chèf gouvènman yo pa t’ rete travay la. Men, yo voye yon rapò bay wa Dariyis, epi yo tann repons li anvan yo pran okenn desizyon sou zafè sa a.
6 Men kopi rapò Tatenayi, gouvènè pwovens lòt bò larivyè Lefrat la, Cheta-Boznayi ak kòlèg li yo ansanm ak tout otorite pwovens la te voye bay wa Dariyis.
7 Men sa yo te voye di l’ nan rapò a: -Nou voye bonjou pou Wa Dariyis! Kè poze pou ou nan tou sa w’ap fè!
8 Se devwa nou pou nou fè wa a konnen nou te ale nan pwovens Jida a, nou jwenn y’ap rebati tanp Bondye ki gen pouvwa a, avèk gwo blòk wòch, y’ap koupe gwo poto bwa pou mete nan mi yo. Moun yo pran san yo pou yo fè bon travay, travay la ap mache byen.
9 Nou pale ak chèf fanmi yo, nou mande yo ki moun ki te ba yo otorizasyon bati tanp lan, ak otorizasyon mete lotèl ladan l’.
10 Nou te mande yo tou pou yo ban nou non yo pou n’ te ka fè ou konnen ki chèf ki te alatèt moun sa yo.
11 Men sa yo reponn nou: Yo menm, se sèvitè Bondye ki kreye syèl la ak latè a yo ye. Y’ap rebati yon tanp yon gran wa peyi Izrayèl la te bati nan tan lontan kite pou yo.
12 Men, zansèt yo te fè Bondye nan syèl la fache ak yo, kifè Bondye lage yo nan men Nèbikadneza, moun peyi Kalde, ki te wa peyi Babilòn. Wa sa a te fè detwi tanp lan, epi li fè depòte tout pèp la lavil Babilòn.
13 Koulye a, yo pretann di Siris, wa Babilòn lan, pa t’ ankò fin gen ennan depi li t’ap gouvènen lè li ba yo otorizasyon pou yo rebati tanp Bondye a.
14 Yo di ankò: Nèbikadneza te pran tout veso an lò ak an ajan ki te nan tanp Bondye a lavil Jerizalèm, li te fè pote yo lavil Babilòn mete nan tanp lavil sa a. Men, wa Siri a fè wete tout veso sa yo nan tanp Babilòn lan, li renmèt yo bay yon nonm yo te rele Chechbaza. Se nonm sa a li te mete chèf nan pwovens Jida a.
15 Wa a te di l’: Pran veso sa yo, al pote yo tounen nan tanp ki lavil Jerizalèm lan, epi rebati tanp Bondye a sou menm anplasman kote l’ te ye a.
16 Se konsa, Chechbaza sa a vini, li moute fondasyon tanp Bondye a lavil Jerizalèm. Depi lè sa a, travay la ap mache, men yo poko fini.
17 Koulye a menm, si wa a ta vle, li ta ka mande yo chache nan achiv wa yo lavil Babilòn, pou wè si tout bon vre, wa Siris te ba yo otorizasyon rebati tanp Bondye a lavil Jerizalèm. Apre sa, y’a fè nou konnen desizyon wa a sou zafè sa a.

1 Aggée, le prophète, et Zacharie, fils d’Iddo, le prophète, prophétisèrent aux Juifs qui étaient en Juda et à Jérusalem, au nom du Dieu d’Israël.
2 Alors Zorobabel, fils de Schealthiel, et Josué, fils de Jotsadak, se levèrent et commencèrent à bâtir la maison de Dieu à Jérusalem. Et avec eux étaient les prophètes de Dieu, qui les assistaient.
3 Dans ce même temps, Thathnaï, gouverneur de ce côté du fleuve, Schethar Boznaï, et leurs collègues, vinrent auprès d’eux et leur parlèrent ainsi: Qui vous a donné l’autorisation de bâtir cette maison et de relever ces murs?
4 Ils leur dirent encore: Quels sont les noms des hommes qui construisent cet édifice?
5 Mais l’oeil de Dieu veillait sur les anciens des Juifs. Et on laissa continuer les travaux pendant l’envoi d’un rapport à Darius et jusqu’à la réception d’une lettre sur cet objet.
6 Copie de la lettre envoyée au roi Darius par Thathnaï, gouverneur de ce côté du fleuve. Schethar Boznaï, et leurs collègues d’Apharsac, demeurant de ce côté du fleuve.
7 Ils lui adressèrent un rapport ainsi conçu: Au roi Darius, salut!
8 Que le roi sache que nous sommes allés dans la province de Juda, à la maison du grand Dieu. Elle se construit en pierres de taille, et le bois se pose dans les murs; le travail marche rapidement et réussit entre leurs mains.
9 Nous avons interrogé les anciens, et nous leur avons ainsi parlé: Qui vous a donné l’autorisation de bâtir cette maison et de relever ces murs?
10 Nous leur avons aussi demandé leurs noms pour te les faire connaître, et nous avons mis par écrit les noms des hommes qui sont à leur tête.
11 Voici la réponse qu’ils nous ont faite: Nous sommes les serviteurs du Dieu des cieux et de la terre, et nous rebâtissons la maison qui avait été construite il y a bien des années; un grand roi d’Israël l’avait bâtie et achevée.
12 Mais après que nos pères eurent irrité le Dieu des cieux, il les livra entre les mains de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, le Chaldéen, qui détruisit cette maison et emmena le peuple captif à Babylone.
13 Toutefois, la première année de Cyrus, roi de Babylone, le roi Cyrus donna l’ordre de rebâtir cette maison de Dieu.
14 Et même le roi Cyrus ôta du temple de Babylone les ustensiles d’or et d’argent de la maison de Dieu, que Nebucadnetsar avait enlevés du temple de Jérusalem et transportés dans le temple de Babylone, il les fit remettre au nommé Scheschbatsar, qu’il établit gouverneur,
15 et il lui dit: Prends ces ustensiles, va les déposer dans le temple de Jérusalem, et que la maison de Dieu soit rebâtie sur le lieu où elle était.
16 Ce Scheschbatsar est donc venu, et il a posé les fondements de la maison de Dieu à Jérusalem; depuis lors jusqu’à présent elle se construit, et elle n’est pas achevée.
17 Maintenant, si le roi le trouve bon, que l’on fasse des recherches dans la maison des trésors du roi à Babylone, pour voir s’il y a eu de la part du roi Cyrus un ordre donné pour la construction de cette maison de Dieu à Jérusalem. Puis, que le roi nous transmette sa volonté sur cet objet.

1 Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them.
2 Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.
3 At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?
4 Then said we unto them after this manner, What are the names of the men that make this building?
5 But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.
6 The copy of the letter that Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai and his companions the Apharsachites, which were on this side the river, sent unto Darius the king:
7 They sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus; Unto Darius the king, all peace.
8 Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.
9 Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?
10 We asked their names also, to certify thee, that we might write the names of the men that were the chief of them.
11 And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.
12 But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.
13 But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon the same king Cyrus made a decree to build this house of God.
14 And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one, whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor;
15 And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.
16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.
17 Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king’s treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
