Pwovèb 23
1 Lè chèf envite ou manje sou menm tab ak li, pa janm bliye ki moun li ye.
2 Si ou se yon moun ki gen bon lapeti, kontwole bouch ou.
3 Pa pote lanvi sou bon ti manje l’ap ofri ou yo. Se ka yon pèlen li tann pou ou.
4 Pa touye tèt ou ap kouri dèyè lajan pou ou vin rich. Wete lide ou sou sa.
5 Paske, anvan ou bat je ou, li gen tan disparèt. Ou ta di lajan gen zèl. Li rete konsa, li vole, li ale.
6 Pa chita pou ou manje sou menm tab ak moun ki tikoulout. Pa pote lanvi sou manje l’ap ofri ou.
7 Li chich ata ak tèt pa li, ale wè avè ou. L’ap di ou: Manje non, monchè! Bwè non! Men se pa ak tout kè li l’ap di ou sa.
8 W’a vonmi tou sa ou te manje a. Tout bèl pawòl ou te di l’ yo p’ap sèvi ou anyen.
9 Pa chache fè yon moun san konprann konprann anyen. Li p’ap tande anyen nan sa w’ap di l’ la. Lèfini, l’ap meprize ou met sou li.
10 Pa janm deplase bòn tè kote yo te ye depi lontan an. Pa antre sou jaden ki pou timoun san papa.
11 Se Bondye k’ap defann yo, li gen anpil pouvwa. L’a plede kòz yo kont ou.
12 Mete tèt ou an plas lè y’ap moutre ou kichòy. Louvri zòrèy ou lè yon moun ki gen konesans ap pale.
13 Ou pa bezwen pè bat yon timoun. Yon bèl kal, sa p’ap touye l’.
14 Okontrè, si ou bat li, w’a sove nanm li pou l’ pa mouri.
15 Pitit mwen, si ou gen bon konprann, mwen p’ap manke kontan.
16 M’a kontan anpil lè m’a tande bon pawòl k’ap soti nan bouch ou.
17 Pa pote lanvi sou moun k’ap fè sa ki mal. Nan tou sa w’ap fè, toujou gen krentif pou Bondye.
18 Paske gen denmen. Se pa pou gremesi w’ap tann sa w’ap tann lan.
19 Louvri zòrèy ou, gason mwen, pou ou ka gen bon konprann, pou ou ka mache dwat. Kalkile byen kote w’ap mete pye ou, pou ou ka mache dwat.
20 Pa fè zanmi avèk moun k’ap bwè twòp, ak moun k’ap fè safte.
21 Paske moun k’ap fè metye bwè ak moun ki afre ap vin pòv. Si ou pase tout tan ou ap dòmi, talè konsa w’ap mache yon men devan yon men dèyè.
22 Pitit mwen, koute papa ou ki fè ou. Pa meprize manman ou lè li fin granmoun.
23 Verite, konesans, lespri ak bon konprann, se bagay ou mèt peye chè pou ou genyen. Men, pa janm vann sa.
24 Papa ki gen yon pitit k’ap mache dwat ap toujou kontan. Manman ki fè yon pitit ki gen bon konprann ap toujou gen kè kontan.
25 Fè kè papa ou ak manman ou kontan. Fè kè manman ki fè ou la kontan.
26 Pitit mwen, louvri zòrèy ou pou tande sa m’ap di ou. Louvri je ou byen pou ou wè jan m’ap viv.
27 Fanm jennès se tankou yon twou pèlen, fanm adiltè se tankou yon pi jis jis.
28 Tankou vòlò, y’ap pare pèlen pou ou. Yo fè anpil gason pèdi tèt yo.
29 Ki moun ki nan tèt chaje, ki nan lapenn? Ki moun ki toujou nan kont, ki tou tan ap plenyen? Ki moun k’ap pran kou san rezon, ki gen je yo tou wouj?
30 Se moun k’ap bwè twòp gwòg, moun k’ap kouri dèyè tranpe.
31 Pa kite bweson pran nanm ou, ou te mèt wè jan li bèl, jan li klè nan vè a. Lè ou bwè l’, li desann dous nan gòj ou.
32 Men, pita ou santi se tankou yon move sèpan ki mòde ou, yon sèpan aspik ki pike ou.
33 W’ap wè tout bagay ap vire devan je ou, w’ap depale.
34 W’ap santi tankou si ou te sou lanmè: w’ap tankou si ou te sou tèt yon ma batiman.
35 Lè sa a w’a di: Gen lè yo bat mwen, mwen pa santi sa. Gen lè yo te ban m’ kou, mwen pa konn sa. Kilè

Proverbes 23
1 Si tu es à table avec un grand, Fais attention à ce qui est devant toi;
2 Mets un couteau à ta gorge, Si tu as trop d’avidité.
3 Ne convoite pas ses friandises: C’est un aliment trompeur.
4 Ne te tourmente pas pour t’enrichir, N’y applique pas ton intelligence.
5 Veux-tu poursuivre du regard ce qui va disparaître? Car la richesse se fait des ailes, Et comme l’aigle, elle prend son vol vers les cieux.
6 Ne mange pas le pain de celui dont le regard est malveillant, Et ne convoite pas ses friandises;
7 Car il est comme les pensées de son âme. Mange et bois, te dira-t-il; Mais son coeur n’est point avec toi.
8 Tu vomiras le morceau que tu as mangé, Et tu auras perdu tes propos agréables.
9 Ne parle pas aux oreilles de l’insensé, Car il méprise la sagesse de tes discours.
10 Ne déplace pas la borne ancienne, Et n’entre pas dans le champ des orphelins;
11 Car leur vengeur est puissant: Il défendra leur cause contre toi.
12 Ouvre ton coeur à l’instruction, Et tes oreilles aux paroles de la science.
13 N’épargne pas la correction à l’enfant; Si tu le frappes de la verge, il ne mourra point.
14 En le frappant de la verge, Tu délivres son âme du séjour des morts.
15 Mon fils, si ton coeur est sage, Mon coeur à moi sera dans la joie;
16 Mes entrailles seront émues d’allégresse, Quand tes lèvres diront ce qui est droit.
17 Que ton coeur n’envie point les pécheurs, Mais qu’il ait toujours la crainte de l’Éternel;
18 Car il est un avenir, Et ton espérance ne sera pas anéantie.
19 Écoute, mon fils, et sois sage; Dirige ton coeur dans la voie droite.
20 Ne sois pas parmi les buveurs de vin, Parmi ceux qui font excès des viandes:
21 Car l’ivrogne et celui qui se livre à des excès s’appauvrissent, Et l’assoupissement fait porter des haillons.
22 Écoute ton père, lui qui t’a engendré, Et ne méprise pas ta mère, quand elle est devenue vieille.
23 Acquiers la vérité, et ne la vends pas, La sagesse, l’instruction et l’intelligence.
24 Le père du juste est dans l’allégresse, Celui qui donne naissance à un sage aura de la joie.
25 Que ton père et ta mère se réjouissent, Que celle qui t’a enfanté soit dans l’allégresse!
26 Mon fils, donne-moi ton coeur, Et que tes yeux se plaisent dans mes voies.
27 Car la prostituée est une fosse profonde, Et l’étrangère un puits étroit.
28 Elle dresse des embûches comme un brigand, Et elle augmente parmi les hommes le nombre des perfides.
29 Pour qui les ah? pour qui les hélas? Pour qui les disputes? pour qui les plaintes? Pour qui les blessures sans raison? pour qui les yeux rouges?
30 Pour ceux qui s’attardent auprès du vin, Pour ceux qui vont déguster du vin mêlé.
31 Ne regarde pas le vin qui paraît d’un beau rouge, Qui fait des perles dans la coupe, Et qui coule aisément.
32 Il finit par mordre comme un serpent, Et par piquer comme un basilic.
33 Tes yeux se porteront sur des étrangères, Et ton coeur parlera d’une manière perverse.
34 Tu seras comme un homme couché au milieu de la mer, Comme un homme couché sur le sommet d’un mât:
35 On m’a frappé,… je n’ai point de mal!… On m’a battu,… je ne sens rien!… Quand me réveillerai-je?… J’en veux encore!

Proverbs 23
1 Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
3 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
4 And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
5 A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
6 For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.
7 Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.
8 He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.
9 The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.
10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
11 If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;
12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:
14 So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
15 Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:
16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
18 Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
19 Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked:
20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
21 My son, fear thou the Lord and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:
22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
23 These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
24 He that saith unto the wicked, Thou are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:
25 But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
26 Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.
27 Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.
28 Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.
29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.
33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
34 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
