1 Kèk tan apre sa, Nakach, wa lavil Amon an, mouri. Se pitit li, Anoun, ki moute wa nan plas li.
2 David di: -Se pou m’ aji byen ak Anoun menm jan papa l’, Nakach, te aji byen avè m’. Se konsa David voye mesaje al di Anoun jan sa te fè l’ lapenn lè l’ pran nouvèl lanmò papa l’. Lè mesaje yo rive lavil Amon,
3 chèf moun Amon yo di wa Anoun konsa: -Pa konprann se sèlman pou lanmò papa ou la kifè David voye mesaje sa yo bò kote ou pou konsole ou. Detwonpe ou. Li voye yo isit la pou yo wè jan lavil la ye, pou yo gade byen jan sa ap pase nan lavil la. Konsa, pita li ka vin pran lavil la nan men nou.
4 Sa Anoun fè lè sa a, li pran moun David te voye yo, li raze tout yon bò nan bab yo, li koupe anba rad yo ra dèyè yo, li voye yo tounen.
5 Mesye yo te wont anpil pou yo te tounen lakay yo konsa. Lè David vin konn sa ki te rive yo, li voye di yo rete lavil Jeriko, y’a tounen lakay yo lè bab yo va pouse ankò.
6 Moun Amon yo vin konprann yo te fè David fache. Yo voye chache venmil (20.000) sòlda lavil Bètreyòb ak lavil Zoba nan peyi Aram lan, ak douzmil (12.000) gason lavil Tòb. Yo voye chache wa lavil Maka a tou ansanm ak mil (1.000) sòlda. Yo peye yo pou yo vin goumen pou yo.
7 David menm vin konn sa, li voye Joab ak tout lame vanyan sòlda li yo al kontre yo.
8 Moun Amon yo soti, y’ al pran pozisyon devan pòtay lavil Raba, kapital yo a. Moun Aram ki soti lavil Bètreyòb ak lavil Zoba yo ansanm ak mesye lavil Tòb yo ak mesye lavil Maka yo pran pozisyon nan plenn lan.
9 Joab te wè lame lènmi yo te ka atake l’ ni sou devan ni sou dèyè. Sa l’ fè? Li chwazi pi bon sòlda nan lame pèp Izrayèl la, li mete yo an pozisyon devan lame moun Aram yo.
10 Lèfini, li mete Abichayi, frè l’ la, alatèt rès lame a, li fè yo pran pozisyon devan moun Amon yo.
11 Joab di Abichayi konsa: -Si ou wè moun Aram yo soti pou yo bat mwen, w’a vin ede m’. Konsa tou, si mwen wè moun Amon yo vle pi fò pase ou, m’a vin ede ou.
12 Mete gason sou nou. Kouraj! Nou pral goumen rèd mare pou pèp nou an ak pou lavil Bondye nou an. Bondye va fè sa li vle li menm.
13 Joab ak sòlda li yo mache sou moun Aram yo. Moun Aram yo kouri pou li.
14 Lè moun Amon yo wè moun Aram yo kouri ale, yo kouri tou pou Abichayi, yo antre nan lavil la. Lè sa a, Joab sispann batay la ak moun Amon yo, li tounen lavil Jerizalèm.
15 Lè moun Aram yo wè moun Izrayèl yo te bat yo ankò, yo sanble dènye sòlda yo te genyen.
16 Adadezè voye yon mesaj bay moun Aram ki rete lòt bò larivyè Lefrat la, pou yo pare vin goumen pou li. Yo reyini lavil Elam. Se Chobak, chèf lame Adadezè a, ki te alatèt yo.
17 Lè David vin konn sa, li sanble tout lame pèp Izrayèl la, li janbe lòt bò larivyè Jouden, li rive Elam. Moun Aram yo pran pozisyon devan li. Epi batay la konmanse.
18 Moun Izrayèl yo fè moun Aram yo kouri met deyò. David ak sòlda li yo touye sètsan (700) sòlda ki te sou cha lagè, katòzmil (14.000) sòlda ki te sou chwal. Yo blese Chobak, chèf lame lènmi yo, ki mouri la menm kote yo t’ap goumen an.
19 Lè tout ti wa ki te mete tèt ansanm ak Adadezè yo wè jan moun Izrayèl yo te bat yo, yo fè lapè ak yo, yo soumèt devan yo. Se konsa, moun Aram pa pran chans al pote moun Amon yo sekou ankò.

1 Après cela, le roi des fils d’Ammon mourut, et Hanun, son fils, régna à sa place.
2 David dit: Je montrerai de la bienveillance à Hanun, fils de Nachasch, comme son père en a montré à mon égard. Et David envoya ses serviteurs pour le consoler au sujet de son père. Lorsque les serviteurs de David arrivèrent dans le pays des fils d’Ammon,
3 les chefs des fils d’Ammon dirent à Hanun, leur maître: Penses-tu que ce soit pour honorer ton père que David t’envoie des consolateurs? N’est-ce pas pour reconnaître et explorer la ville, et pour la détruire, qu’il envoie ses serviteurs auprès de toi?
4 Alors Hanun saisit les serviteurs de David, leur fit raser la moitié de la barbe, et fit couper leurs habits par le milieu jusqu’au haut des cuisses. Puis il les congédia.
5 David, qui fut informé, envoya des gens à leur rencontre, car ces hommes étaient dans une grande confusion; et le roi leur fit dire: Restez à Jéricho jusqu’à ce que votre barbe ait repoussé, et revenez ensuite.
6 Les fils d’Ammon, voyant qu’ils s’étaient rendus odieux à David, firent enrôler à leur solde vingt mille hommes de pied chez les Syriens de Beth Rehob et chez les Syriens de Tsoba, mille hommes chez le roi de Maaca, et douze mille hommes chez les gens de Tob.
7 A cette nouvelle, David envoya contre eux Joab et toute l’armée, les hommes vaillants.
8 Les fils d’Ammon sortirent, et se rangèrent en bataille à l’entrée de la porte; les Syriens de Tsoba et de Rehob, et les hommes de Tob et de Maaca, étaient à part dans la campagne.
9 Joab vit qu’il avait à combattre par devant et par derrière. Il choisit alors sur toute l’élite d’Israël un corps, qu’il opposa aux Syriens;
10 et il plaça sous le commandement de son frère Abischaï le reste du peuple, pour faire face aux fils d’Ammon.
11 Il dit: Si les Syriens sont plus forts que moi, tu viendras à mon secours; et si les fils d’Ammon sont plus forts que toi, j’irai te secourir.
12 Sois ferme, et montrons du courage pour notre peuple et pour les villes de notre Dieu, et que l’Éternel fasse ce qui lui semblera bon!
13 Joab, avec son peuple, s’avança pour attaquer les Syriens, et ils s’enfuirent devant lui.
14 Et quand les fils d’Ammon virent que les Syriens avaient pris la fuite, ils s’enfuirent aussi devant Abischaï et rentrèrent dans la ville. Joab s’éloigna des fils d’Ammon et revint à Jérusalem.
15 Les Syriens, voyant qu’ils avaient été battus par Israël, réunirent leurs forces.
16 Hadadézer envoya chercher les Syriens qui étaient de l’autre côté du fleuve; et ils arrivèrent à Hélam, ayant à leur tête Schobac, chef de l’armée d’Hadadézer.
17 On l’annonça à David, qui assembla tout Israël, passa le Jourdain, et vint à Hélam. Les Syriens se préparèrent à la rencontre de David, et lui livrèrent bataille.
18 Mais les Syriens s’enfuirent devant Israël. Et David leur tua les troupes de sept cents chars et quarante mille cavaliers; il frappa aussi le chef de leur armée, Schobac, qui mourut sur place.
19 Tous les rois soumis à Hadadézer, se voyant battus par Israël, firent la paix avec Israël et lui furent assujettis. Et les Syriens n’osèrent plus secourir les fils d’Ammon.

1 And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.
2 Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
3 And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?
4 Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
5 When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
6 And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Bethrehob and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of Ishtob twelve thousand men.
7 And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
8 And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entering in of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ishtob, and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.
9 When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:
10 And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his brother, that he might put them in array against the children of Ammon.
11 And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.
12 Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the Lord do that which seemeth him good.
13 And Joab drew nigh, and the people that were with him, unto the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.
14 And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, then fled they also before Abishai, and entered into the city. So Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
15 And when the Syrians saw that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered themselves together.
16 And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river: and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.
17 And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.
18 And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there.
19 And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.
