1 Apre sa, David mande Seyè a: -Eske se pou m’ ale nan yonn nan lavil peyi Jida yo? Seyè a reponn li: -Wi. Se pou ou ale! David mande l’: -Kote pou m’ ale? Seyè a di l’: -Lavil Ebwon.
2 Se konsa, David pran de madanm li yo, Akenoam ki te moun lavil Jizreyèl, ak Abigayèl, vèv Nabal la, ki te moun lavil Kamèl, li pati pou Ebwon.
3 Li mennen moun ki te avè l’ yo tou ansanm ak tout fanmi yo. Y’ al rete lavil Ebwon ak nan tout ti bouk ki toupre l’ yo.
4 Apre sa, moun Jida yo rive lavil Ebwon, yo fè seremoni pou mete David apa pou sèvi wa peyi Jida. David vin pran nouvèl se moun lavil Jabès yo, nan peyi Galarad, ki te antere Sayil.
5 Lè sa a, li voye kèk mesaje di yo konsa: -Se pou Seyè a beni nou, paske nou moutre jan nou pa janm lage Sayil, mèt nou an. Nou antere l’.
6 Mwen mande Seyè a pou li aji byen ak nou tou, pou li pa janm lage nou. Mwen menm pou tèt pa m’, m’ap aji byen avèk nou tou poutèt sa nou fè a.
7 Koulye a, pran kouraj! Mete gason nou nou! Sayil, mèt nou an, mouri. Se mwen menm moun Jida yo mete apa pou wa yo.
8 Abnè, pitit gason Nè a, kòmandan lame Sayil la, pran Ichbochèt, pitit gason Sayil la, li mennen l’ lavil Manayim, lòt bò larivyè Jouden.
9 Rive la, li nonmen Ichbochèt wa peyi Galarad, peyi Asè, peyi Jizreyèl, peyi Efrayim ak peyi Benjamen, ki vle di wa tout pèp Izrayèl la.
10 Ichbochèt, pitit gason Sayil la, te gen karantan lè yo fè l’ wa peyi Izrayèl. Li gouvènen pandan dezan. Men, moun branch fanmi Jida yo te kanpe avèk David.
11 David te wa peyi Jida a pandan sètan sis mwa. Se Ebwon li te rete.
12 Abnè leve ansanm ak moun Ichbochèt yo, yo kite lavil Manayim, y’ ale lavil Gabawon.
13 Joab menm, pitit gason Sewouya a, leve ansanm ak sòlda David yo, yo kite lavil Ebwon, yo pati tou. Yo kontre ak moun Abnè yo bò rezèvwa Gabawon an. De lame yo pran pozisyon, yonn chak bò rezèvwa a.
14 Abnè di Joab konsa: -Annou chwazi kèk jenn gason pou yo goumen devan nou la a. Joab reponn: -Dakò!
15 Se konsa, douz gason nan branch fanmi Benjamen an kanpe pou Ichbochèt yon bò, douz gason kanpe pou moun David yo lòt bò.
16 Mesye yo mare goumen. Yonn pran lòt nan tèt epi yonn foure nepe yo nan kò lòt. Se konsa yo tout tonbe ansanm, yo mouri. Se poutèt sa, yo rele kote sa a nan peyi Gabawon an Elkatazourim.
17 Apre sa, yon gwo batay pete. Moun David yo kraze Abnè ansanm ak moun Izrayèl yo.
18 Tou twa pitit gason Sewouya yo te la. Se te Joab, Abichayi ak Asayèl. Asayèl te konn kouri, ou ta di yon ti kabrit mawon.
19 Li pran kouri pye pou pye dèyè Abnè ki t’ap chache chape kò l’.
20 Abnè vire tèt li gade dèyè. Li di: -Se pa ou menm sa, Asayèl? Asayèl reponn li: -Men wi, se mwen.
21 Abnè di l’ konsa: -Sispann kouri dèyè m’. Pito ou kouri dèyè yonn nan sòlda yo. Lèfini, w’a pran tou sa li genyen. Men, Asayèl pa t’ vle sispann kouri dèyè l’.
22 Yon dezyèm fwa Abnè di l’: -Asayèl, m’ di ou sispann kouri dèyè m’ wi! Pa fòse m’ touye ou! Apre sa, ki jan m’a fè pou m’ parèt devan Joab, frè ou la?
23 Men, Asayèl pa t’ vle sispann kouri dèyè l’. Lè sa a, Abnè ba li yon kou nan vant ak pwent dèyè frenn li an. Frenn lan travèse Asayèl, li soti nan do l’. Asayèl tonbe atè, li mouri frèt. Lè tout moun rive kote li te tonbe a yo rete la.
24 Men Joab ak Abichayi pran kouri pi rèd dèyè Abnè. Solèy tapral kouche lè yo rive sou ti bit mòn Anma a, ki sou bò solèy leve lavil Giyak, sou chemen ki mennen nan dezè Gabawon an.
25 Moun branch fanmi Benjamen yo sanble bò kote Anbè ankò. Yo pran pozisyon pou yo goumen sou tèt yon ti mòn.
26 Abnè rele Joab, li di l’ konsa: -Gen lè nou p’ap janm fini ak batay sa a? Ou pa wè sa ap fini mal pou nou tou de? Se frè nou ye. Sa w’ap tann pou ou bay moun ou yo lòd pou yo sispann kouri dèyè nou?
27 Joab reponn li: -Mwen pran Bondye ki vivan an pou temwen. Si ou pa t’ pale konsa se denmen maten moun pa m’ yo t’ap sispann kouri dèyè ou.
28 Joab fè kònen klewon. Tout moun li yo rete sou sa yo te fè, yo sispann kouri dèyè moun Izrayèl yo. Se konsa batay la fini.
29 Abnè ak moun pa l’ yo mache nan fon Jouden an tout lannwit lan. Lèfini, yo janbe lòt bò larivyè Jouden an. Yo travèse tout zòn Bitwon an jouk yo rive lavil Manayim.
30 Joab menm, lè li sispann kouri dèyè Abnè a, li sanble tout lame a. Te gen disnèf sòlda nan moun David yo ki pa t’ reponn prezan san konte Asayèl.
31 Patizan David yo te touye twasanswasant (360) nan patizan Abnè yo, tout nan branch fanmi Benjamen an.
32 Joab ak moun pa l’ yo pran kadav Asayèl, y’ al antere l’ nan tonm fanmi an lavil Betleyèm. Apre sa, yo pase nwit lan ap mache. Solèy t’ap leve lè yo rive Ebwon.

1 Après cela, David consulta l’Éternel, en disant: Monterai-je dans une des villes de Juda? L’Éternel lui répondit: Monte. David dit: Où monterai-je? Et l’Éternel répondit: A Hébron.
2 David y monta, avec ses deux femmes, Achinoam de Jizreel, et Abigaïl de Carmel, femme de Nabal.
3 David fit aussi monter les gens qui étaient auprès de lui, chacun avec sa maison; et ils habitèrent dans les villes d’Hébron.
4 Les hommes de Juda vinrent, et là ils oignirent David pour roi sur la maison de Juda. On informa David que c’étaient les gens de Jabès en Galaad qui avaient enterré Saül.
5 David envoya des messagers aux gens de Jabès en Galaad, pour leur dire: Soyez bénis de l’Éternel, puisque vous avez ainsi montré de la bienveillance envers Saül, votre maître, et que vous l’avez enterré.
6 Et maintenant, que l’Éternel use envers vous de bonté et de fidélité. Moi aussi je vous ferai du bien, parce que vous avez agi de la sorte.
7 Que vos mains se fortifient, et soyez de vaillants hommes; car votre maître Saül est mort, et c’est moi que la maison de Juda a oint pour roi sur elle.
8 Cependant Abner, fils de Ner, chef de l’armée de Saül, prit Isch Boscheth, fils de Saül, et le fit passer à Mahanaïm.
9 Il l’établit roi sur Galaad, sur les Gueschuriens, sur Jizreel, sur Éphraïm, sur Benjamin, sur tout Israël.
10 Isch Boscheth, fils de Saül, était âgé de quarante ans, lorsqu’il devint roi d’Israël, et il régna deux ans. Il n’y eut que la maison de Juda qui resta attachée à David.
11 Le temps pendant lequel David régna à Hébron sur la maison de Juda fut de sept ans et six mois.
12 Abner, fils de Ner, et les gens d’Isch Boscheth, fils de Saül, sortirent de Mahanaïm pour marcher sur Gabaon.
13 Joab, fils de Tseruja, et les gens de David, se mirent aussi en marche. Ils se rencontrèrent près de l’étang de Gabaon, et ils s’arrêtèrent les uns en deçà de l’étang, et les autres au delà.
14 Abner dit à Joab: Que ces jeunes gens se lèvent, et qu’ils se battent devant nous! Joab répondit: Qu’ils se lèvent!
15 Ils se levèrent et s’avancèrent en nombre égal, douze pour Benjamin et pour Isch Boscheth, fils de Saül, et douze des gens de David.
16 Chacun saisissant son adversaire par la tête lui enfonça son épée dans le flanc, et ils tombèrent tous ensemble. Et l’on donna à ce lieu, qui est près de Gabaon, le nom de Helkath Hatsurim.
17 Il y eut en ce jour un combat très rude, dans lequel Abner et les hommes d’Israël furent battus par les gens de David.
18 Là se trouvaient les trois fils de Tseruja: Joab, Abischaï et Asaël. Asaël avait les pieds légers comme une gazelle des champs:
19 il poursuivit Abner, sans se détourner de lui pour aller à droite ou à gauche.
20 Abner regarda derrière lui, et dit: Est-ce toi, Asaël? Et il répondit: C’est moi.
21 Abner lui dit: Tire à droite ou à gauche; saisis-toi de l’un de ces jeunes gens, et prends sa dépouille. Mais Asaël ne voulut point se détourner de lui.
22 Abner dit encore à Asaël: Détourne-toi de moi; pourquoi te frapperais-je et t’abattrais-je en terre? comment ensuite lèverais-je le visage devant ton frère Joab?
23 Et Asaël refusa de se détourner. Sur quoi Abner le frappa au ventre avec l’extrémité inférieure de sa lance, et la lance sortit par derrière. Il tomba et mourut sur place. Tous ceux qui arrivaient au lieu où Asaël était tombé mort, s’y arrêtaient.
24 Joab et Abischaï poursuivirent Abner, et le soleil se couchait quand ils arrivèrent au coteau d’Amma, qui est en face de Guiach, sur le chemin du désert de Gabaon.
25 Les fils de Benjamin se rallièrent à la suite d’Abner et formèrent un corps, et ils s’arrêtèrent au sommet d’une colline.
26 Abner appela Joab, et dit: L’épée dévorera-t-elle toujours? Ne sais-tu pas qu’il y aura de l’amertume à la fin? Jusques à quand tarderas-tu à dire au peuple de ne plus poursuivre ses frères?
27 Joab répondit: Dieu est vivant! si tu n’eusses parlé, le peuple n’aurait pas cessé avant le matin de poursuivre ses frères.
28 Et Joab sonna de la trompette, et tout le peuple s’arrêta; ils ne poursuivirent plus Israël, et ils ne continuèrent pas à se battre.
29 Abner et ses gens marchèrent toute la nuit dans la plaine; ils passèrent le Jourdain, traversèrent en entier le Bithron, et arrivèrent à Mahanaïm.
30 Joab revint de la poursuite d’Abner, et rassembla tout le peuple; il manquait dix-neuf hommes des gens de David, et Asaël.
31 Mais les gens de David avaient frappé à mort trois cent soixante hommes parmi ceux de Benjamin et d’Abner.
32 Ils emportèrent Asaël, et l’enterrèrent dans le sépulcre de son père à Bethléhem. Joab et ses gens marchèrent toute la nuit, et le jour paraissait quand ils furent à Hébron.

1 And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.
2 So David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail Nabal’s wife the Carmelite.
3 And his men that were with him did David bring up, every man with his household: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
4 And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, That the men of Jabeshgilead were they that buried Saul.
5 And David sent messengers unto the men of Jabeshgilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the Lord, that ye have shewed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him.
6 And now the Lord shew kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing.
7 Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.
8 But Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul’s host, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;
9 And made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.
10 Ishbosheth Saul’s son was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.
11 And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.
12 And Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.
13 And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out, and met together by the pool of Gibeon: and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool.
14 And Abner said to Joab, Let the young men now arise, and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise.
15 Then there arose and went over by number twelve of Benjamin, which pertained to Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.
16 And they caught every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow’s side; so they fell down together: wherefore that place was called Helkathhazzurim, which is in Gibeon.
17 And there was a very sore battle that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.
18 And there were three sons of Zeruiah there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.
19 And Asahel pursued after Abner; and in going he turned not to the right hand nor to the left from following Abner.
20 Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, I am.
21 And Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armour. But Asahel would not turn aside from following of him.
22 And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother?
23 Howbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore Abner with the hinder end of the spear smote him under the fifth rib, that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.
24 Joab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.
25 And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner, and became one troop, and stood on the top of an hill.
26 Then Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren?
27 And Joab said, As God liveth, unless thou hadst spoken, surely then in the morning the people had gone up every one from following his brother.
28 So Joab blew a trumpet, and all the people stood still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.
29 And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plain, and passed over Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and they came to Mahanaim.
30 And Joab returned from following Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of David’s servants nineteen men and Asahel.
31 But the servants of David had smitten of Benjamin, and of Abner’s men, so that three hundred and threescore men died.
32 And they took up Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Bethlehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at break of day.
