1 Manase te premye pitit gason Jozèf. Se konsa yon pòsyon nan tè a vin pou moun fanmi Manase yo. Maki, papa Galarad, te premye pitit gason Manase. Se te yon vanyan sòlda. Se konsa yo te ba li peyi Galarad ak peyi Bazan.
2 Apre sa, yo bay fanmi lòt pitit Manase yo yon pòsyon nan tè a, dapre kantite moun yo te genyen: yon pòsyon pou pitit Abyezè yo, yon pòsyon pou pitit Elèk yo, yon pòsyon pou pitit Asriyèl yo, yon pòsyon pou pitit Sichèm yo, yon pòsyon pou pitit Efè yo, yon lòt pòsyon pou pitit Chemida yo. Se moun sa yo ki te branch fanmi pitit gason Manase, pitit Jozèf la.
3 Nan branch fanmi Manase a, te gen yon nonm yo te rele Zelochad. Se te pitit gason Efè. Efè sa a te pitit Galarad, Galarad te pitit Maki, Maki te pitit Manase. Zelochad pa t’ gen pitit gason menm. Se fi ase li te fè. Men ki jan yo te rele: Mala, Noa, Ogla, Milka ak Tiza.
4 Yo vin jwenn Eleaza, prèt la, Jozye, pitit gason Noun lan, ak tout chèf yo. Yo di yo konsa: -Seyè a te bay Moyiz lòd pou l’ te ban nou yon pòsyon nan tè a, tankou tout moun nan fanmi an. Se konsa, jan Seyè a te bay lòd la, yo ba yo yon pòsyon pou yo tankou tout moun nan fanmi papa yo.
5 Konsa yo te rive bay moun Manase yo dis pòsyon tè, san konte peyi Galarad ak peyi Bazan ki lòt bò larivyè Jouden an,
6 paske pitit fi Manase yo te resevwa yon pòsyon apa pou yo tankou pitit gason l’ yo. Men, yo te bay peyi Galarad la pou lòt pitit Manase yo.
7 Men limit tè yo te bay moun Manase yo. Li konmanse bò tè moun Asè yo, li rive lavil Mikmetat, anfas Sichèm, sou bò solèy leve. Li vire desann bò sid nan direksyon Jamen nan peyi moun Antapwak yo.
8 Tout peyi Tapwak la te pou moun Manase yo. Men, lavil Tapwak ki sou fwontyè a te pou moun Efrayim yo.
9 Limit la desann nan ravin Kana a, li pase sou bò nò ravin lan epi l’ al bout nan lanmè. Tout lavil ki te sou bò sid ravin lan, atout yo te nan mitan tè moun Manase yo, se pou moun Efrayim yo yo te ye.
10 Moun Efrayim yo te anba sou bò sid, moun Manase yo te anwo sou bò nò, avèk lanmè Mediterane a sou bò solèy kouche. Pòsyon tè yo a te rive sou lizyè tè moun Asè yo sou bò nò ak lizyè tè moun Isaka yo sou bò lès.
11 Nan mitan pòsyon tè ki te vin pou moun Isaka yo ak moun Asè yo, yo te bay moun Manase yo lavil Bèt-Chean ak tout ti bouk ki sou lòd li yo, moun ki rete lavil Ibleyam, lavil Dò ki bò lanmè a, lavil Andò, lavil Tanak, lavil Megido ak tout ti bouk ki te sou lòd yo.
12 Men, moun fanmi Manase yo pa t’ kapab mete moun ki t’ap viv nan lavil sa yo deyò. Se konsa moun Kanaran yo te rive rete nan peyi a.
13 Men, lè moun Izrayèl yo vin pi fò, yo pa mete yo deyò nan peyi a, yo sèlman fòse yo fè kòve pou yo.
14 Moun fanmi Jozèf yo di Jozye konsa: -Poukisa se yon sèl pòsyon ou ban nou nan tè a pou rele nou pa nou? Nou anpil wi. Seyè a pa manke beni nou.
15 Jozye reponn yo: -Si nou anpil, si mòn nan peyi Efrayim yo pa ase pou nou, se pou n’ moute nan gwo rakbwa ki nan peyi moun Ferezi yo ak moun refrayim yo, n’a koupe bwa fè plas pou nou.
16 Moun fanmi Jozèf yo di l’ ankò: -Mòn lan pa kont pou nou. Lèfini, moun Kanaran ki rete nan plenn yo gen cha an fè pou fè lagè. Moun Kanaran ki rete Bèt Chean ak nan ti bouk ki sou lòd yo, ansanm ak sa ki rete nan plenn Jizreyèl yo gen menm kalite cha a tou.
17 Jozye di moun Jozèf yo, ki vle di moun Efrayim yo ak moun Manase yo: -Nou anpil vre. Nou gen anpil fòs. Nou pa ka rete ak yon sèl pòsyon tè.
18 Tout mòn yo ap pou nou. Malgre se yon gwo rakbwa yo ye. N’a koupe bwa yo, epi n’a pran tout zòn lan nèt pou nou. Pou moun Kanaran yo menm, atout nou wè yo gen cha ki fèt an fè, atout yo fò a, rive yon lè, n’a mete yo deyò.

1 Une part échut aussi par le sort à la tribu de Manassé, car il était le premier-né de Joseph. Makir, premier-né de Manassé et père de Galaad, avait eu Galaad et Basan, parce qu’il était un homme de guerre.
2 On donna par le sort une part aux autres fils de Manassé, selon leurs familles, aux fils d’Abiézer, aux fils de Hélek, aux fils d’Asriel, aux fils de Sichem, aux fils de Hépher, aux fils de Schemida: ce sont là les enfants mâles de Manassé, fils de Joseph, selon leurs familles.
3 Tselophchad, fils de Hépher, fils de Galaad, fils de Makir, fils de Manassé, n’eut point de fils, mais il eut des filles dont voici les noms: Machla, Noa, Hogla, Milca et Thirtsa.
4 Elles se présentèrent devant le sacrificateur Éléazar, devant Josué, fils de Nun, et devant les princes, en disant: L’Éternel a commandé à Moïse de nous donner un héritage parmi nos frères. Et on leur donna, selon l’ordre de l’Éternel, un héritage parmi les frères de leur père.
5 Il échut dix portions à Manassé, outre le pays de Galaad et de Basan, qui est de l’autre côté du Jourdain.
6 Car les filles de Manassé eurent un héritage parmi ses fils, et le pays de Galaad fut pour les autres fils de Manassé.
7 La limite de Manassé s’étendait d’Aser à Micmethath, qui est près de Sichem, et allait à Jamin vers les habitants d’En Tappuach.
8 Le pays de Tappuach était aux fils de Manassé, mais Tappuach sur la frontière de Manassé était aux fils d’Éphraïm.
9 La limite descendait au torrent de Kana, au midi du torrent. Ces villes étaient à Éphraïm, au milieu des villes de Manassé. La limite de Manassé au nord du torrent aboutissait à la mer.
10 Le territoire du midi était à Éphraïm, celui du nord à Manassé, et la mer leur servait de limite; ils touchaient à Aser vers le nord, et à Issacar vers l’orient.
11 Manassé possédait dans Issacar et dans Aser: Beth Schean et les villes de son ressort, Jibleam et les villes de son ressort, les habitants de Dor et les villes de son ressort, les habitants d’En Dor et les villes de son ressort, les habitants de Thaanac et les villes de son ressort, et les habitants de Meguiddo et les villes de son ressort, trois contrées.
12 Les fils de Manassé ne purent pas prendre possession de ces villes, et les Cananéens voulurent rester dans ce pays.
13 Lorsque les enfants d’Israël furent assez forts, ils assujettirent les Cananéens à un tribut, mais ils ne les chassèrent point.
14 Les fils de Joseph parlèrent à Josué, et dirent: Pourquoi nous as-tu donné en héritage un seul lot, une seule part, tandis que nous formons un peuple nombreux et que l’Éternel nous a bénis jusqu’à présent?
15 Josué leur dit: Si vous êtes un peuple nombreux, montez à la forêt, et vous l’abattrez pour vous y faire de la place dans le pays des Phéréziens et des Rephaïm, puisque la montagne d’Éphraïm est trop étroite pour vous.
16 Les fils de Joseph dirent: La montagne ne nous suffira pas, et il y a des chars de fer chez tous les Cananéens qui habitent la vallée, chez ceux qui sont à Beth Schean et dans les villes de son ressort, et chez ceux qui sont dans la vallée de Jizreel.
17 Josué dit à la maison de Joseph, à Éphraïm et à Manassé: Vous êtes un peuple nombreux, et votre force est grande, vous n’aurez pas un simple lot.
18 Mais vous aurez la montagne, car c’est une forêt que vous abattrez et dont les issues seront à vous, et vous chasserez les Cananéens, malgré leurs chars de fer et malgré leur force.

1 There was also a lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the firstborn of Joseph; to wit, for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead: because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan.
2 There was also a lot for the rest of the children of Manasseh by their families; for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph by their families.
3 But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters, Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
4 And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, The Lord commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore according to the commandment of the Lord he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.
5 And there fell ten portions to Manasseh, beside the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side Jordan;
6 Because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons: and the rest of Manasseh’s sons had the land of Gilead.
7 And the coast of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lieth before Shechem; and the border went along on the right hand unto the inhabitants of Entappuah.
8 Now Manasseh had the land of Tappuah: but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim;
9 And the coast descended unto the river Kanah, southward of the river: these cities of Ephraim are among the cities of Manasseh: the coast of Manasseh also was on the north side of the river, and the outgoings of it were at the sea:
10 Southward it was Ephraim’s, and northward it was Manasseh’s, and the sea is his border; and they met together in Asher on the north, and in Issachar on the east.
11 And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Bethshean and her towns, and Ibleam and her towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Endor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and her towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns, even three countries.
12 Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
13 Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, but did not utterly drive them out.
14 And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the Lord hath blessed me hitherto?
15 And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.
16 And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel.
17 And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only:
18 But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.
