2 Li voye mesaje anndan lavil la bò kote Akab, wa peyi Izrayèl la,
3 pou di li: -Wa Bennadad voye di ou tout bagay ou gen an lò ak an ajan se pou li yo ye. Tout madanm ou yo ak tout pi bon pitit gason ou yo se pou li yo ye tou.
4 Wa Akab reponn: -Di wa Bennadad, mèt mwen, se jan li vle! Li mèt pran m’ ansanm ak tou sa m’ genyen.
5 Mesaje yo tounen ankò vin di Akab: -Men sa Bennadab voye di ou: M’ te voye mande ou pou ou ban mwen tou sa ou gen an lò ak an ajan, tout madanm ak tout pitit gason ou yo.
6 Koulye a, denmen vè lè konsa, m’ap voye moun pa m’ yo pou yo fouye palè ou la ak kay tout moun pa ou yo, pou yo pran tou sa y’a jwenn ki gen valè nan je yo.
7 Wa Akab fè rele tout chèf fanmi ki nan peyi a, li di yo konsa: -Jan nou wè l’ la, nonm sa a soti pou l’ pran tou sa nou genyen. Li te voye mande m’ madanm mwen yo, pitit gason m’ yo ak tout bagay an lò ak an ajan mwen genyen. Mwen pa refize l’ anyen.
8 Chèf fanmi yo ansanm ak pèp la di l’ konsa: -Pa koute l’, pa dakò avè l’!
9 Lè sa a, Akab di mesaje Bennadab yo: -Ale di mèt mwen, wa Bennadab, m’ te dakò ak sa li te mande m’ premye fwa a. Men, sa l’ mande fwa sa a, m’ pa ka fè l’. Mesaje yo pati, y’ al pote repons lan bay Bennadad.
10 Bennadab voye yo tounen al di Akab: -M’ap vini ak anpil moun pou m’ kraze lavil Samari. p’ap gen ase demoli pou m’ bay chak moun ki avè m’ yo ti kras pou yo pote ale sitèlman y’ap anpil. Si m’ pa fè sa, se pou bondye yo ban m’ pi gwo pinisyon ki genyen
11 Wa Akab voye reponn li: -Yon sòlda pa fèt pou l’ ap vante tèt li anvan l’ al goumen.
12 Bennadad t’ap bwè ak lòt wa yo anba tant yo lè yo pote repons Akab la ba li. Lamenm, li bay moun pa l’ yo lòd pou yo mache sou lavil Samari. Se konsa, y’ al pare pou atake.
13 Lè sa a, yon pwofèt Bondye vin jwenn Akab, li di l’ konsa: -Men sa Seyè a voye di ou: Ou wè tout kantite sòlda sa yo? Enben, mwen pral lage yo nan men ou jòdi a, konsa w’a konnen se mwen menm ki Seyè a.
14 Akab mande l’: -Ki moun ou pral fè lage yo nan men m’ jòdi a? Pwofèt la reponn li: -Seyè a voye di ou se jenn sòlda ki sou lòd gouvènè pwovens yo ki pral fè l’. Wa mande ankò: -Ki moun ki pral atake anvan? Pwofèt la reponn: -Ou menm.
15 Lamenm, wa a fè rele jenn sòlda ki te sou lòd gouvènè pwovens yo. Li jwenn desantrannde (232) sòlda antou. Apre sa, li fè rele tout lame pèp Izrayèl la, li jwenn sètmil (7.000) gason.
16 Vè midi, yo soti al atake pandan Bennadad ansanm ak trannde lòt wa ki t’ap mache avè l’ yo t’ap bwè anba tant yo.
17 Se jenn sòlda yo ki t’ap mache devan. Bennadad te voye al wè jan sa ye bò kay moun pèp Izrayèl yo. Yo vin di li yo wè yon gwoup sòlda ki t’ap soti lavil Samari.
18 Lè sa a, li di: -M’ pa bezwen konnen si y’ap vin pou goumen osinon pou mande lapè, kenbe yo vivan mennen ban mwen.
19 Jenn sòlda gouvènè yo soti nan lavil la pou al atake. Yo t’ap mache devan, rès lame a t’ap swiv yo.
20 Yo chak yo touye moun ki te vin pou goumen ak yo a. Moun peyi Siri yo pran kouri, moun Izrayèl yo menm t’ap kouri dèyè yo. Bennadad menm resi chape kò l’ sou chwal ansanm ak kèk lòt kavalye.
21 Wa Akab vin atake lè sa a, li touye chwal moun Siri yo, li kraze cha lagè yo. Li bat moun Siri yo byen bat.
22 Apre sa, pwofèt la al jwenn wa Akab, li di l’ konsa: -Ou mèt tounen koulye a, mete lame ou la anfòm. Kalkile byen sou sa ou pral fè, paske nan ennan, dat pou dat, wa peyi Siri a ap tounen vin atake ou ankò.
23 Chèf ki te avèk wa Bennadad yo vin di l’: -Bondye pèp Izrayèl yo se bondye mòn yo ye. Se poutèt sa yo bat nou jan yo bat nou an. Men, si nou goumen ak yo nan tè plat, wè pa wè, n’ap bat yo.

25 Ou menm ou pral moute yon gwo lame tankou lame ou pèdi a, ak menm kantite chwal ak cha lagè ou te gen anvan an. Nou pral goumen ak moun pèp Izrayèl yo nan plenn. W’ap wè fwa sa a n’ap bat yo. Wa Bennadad dakò, li fè sa chèf yo te di l’ fè a.
26 Ennan apre, dat pou dat, li reyini tout sòlda moun peyi Siri yo, li mennen yo jouk lavil Afèk pou y’ al atake moun peyi Izrayèl yo.
27 Akab reyini tout lame pèp Izrayèl la, li ba yo zam ak pwovizyon. Yo soti al kontre moun Siri yo. Yo separe fè de gwoup, yo moute kan yo devan lame moun Siri yo. Sòlda peyi Izrayèl yo te sanble ak de ti bann kabrit devan lame moun Siri a menm ki te kouvri tout peyi a.
28 Yon pwofèt Bondye vin jwenn Akab, wa Izrayèl la, li di l’ konsa: -Men mesaj Seyè a voye ba ou: Paske moun Siri yo di se yon bondye mòn mwen ye, mwen pa konn tè plat, mwen pral lage tout gwo lame sa a nan men ou. Konsa w’a konnen se mwen menm ki Seyè a.
29 Pandan sèt jou, moun Siri yo ak moun Izrayèl yo rete nan kan yo, yonn anfas lòt. Sou setyèm jou a yo konmanse goumen. Moun Izrayèl yo touye sanmil (100.000) moun Siri.
30 Sa ki chape yo kouri ale lavil Afèk. Lè yo rive la, miray lavil la tonbe sou yo, li touye vennsètmil (27.000) sòlda ki te rete yo. Bennadad tou te chape kò l’ nan lagè a. Li antre nan yon kay, l’ al kache nan yon pyès jouk nan fon.
31 Moun pa l’ yo vin jwenn li, yo di l’ konsa: -Nou tande jan wa peyi Izrayèl yo se moun ki gen bon kè. Ban nou otorizasyon pou n’ al jwenn wa peyi Izrayèl la. N’ap mete rad sak sou nou tankou moun yo fè prizonye. Ou pa janm konnen li ka sove lavi ou.
32 Se konsa yo mete rad sak sou yo tankou moun ki nan lapenn, yo plòtonnen moso kòd nan kou yo, y’ al jwenn Akab, yo di l’ konsa: -Bennadad voye di ou, monwa, se esklav ou li ye. Tanpri, pa touye l’. Akab reponn: -An! Msye vivan toujou. Mwen byen kontan! Se yon frè li ye pou mwen wi!
33 Moun Bennadad yo pran sa pou yon bon siy, yo repete pawòl ki te fèk sot nan bouch wa a, yo di l’ konsa: -Bennadad, se frè monwa! Akab reponn: -Al chache l’ mennen ban mwen! Bennadad soti kote l’ te ye a, li parèt devan Akab, Akab fè l’ moute sou cha pa l’ ansanm avè l’.
34 Bennadad di li: -M’ap renmèt ou tout lavil papa m’ te pran nan men papa ou yo. Ou mèt louvri boutik nan lavil Damas pou vann, menm jan papa m’ te fè l’ lavil Samari. Akab reponn li: -Si se konsa, w’ap pase yon kontra avè m’, mwen menm m’ap kite ou al fè wout ou. Akab pase yon kontra avèk Bennadad, lèfini li kite l’ al fè wout li.
35 Nan menm epòk sa a, Seyè a pale ak yon pwofèt nan gwoup pwofèt li yo. Li ba li lòd pou li mande yon lòt pwofèt ba l’ kou. Men lòt pwofèt la derefize.
36 Lè sa a, premye pwofèt la di l’ konsa: -Poutèt ou derefize obeyi lòd Seyè a, separe n’a separe, yon lyon ap touye ou. Konsa vre, ale premye pwofèt la ale, yon lyon vin rive, li touye lòt pwofèt la.
37 Apre sa, premye pwofèt la kontre yon lòt moun, li mande l’ pou li ba l’ kou. Nonm lan frape l’ byen fò, jouk li mete san l’ deyò.
38 Lèfini, pwofèt la kouvri figi l’ ak yon moso twal pou moun pa rekonèt li, l’ al kanpe bò wout la ap tann wa a pase.
39 Lè wa a vin ap pase, pwofèt la pran pale byen fò, li di konsa: -Monwa, mwen te nan mitan batay la, mwen t’ap goumen lè yon sòlda mennen yon lènmi li te fè prizonye. Li di m’ konsa: Veye msye pou mwen. Si ou kite l’ chape anba men ou, m’ap touye ou osinon w’ap peye twamil (3.000) pyès an ajan pou li.
40 Men, monwa, pandan m’ okipe ap fè lòt bagay, prizonye a sove. Wa Izrayèl la di l’ konsa: -Se ou menm ki kondannen tèt ou, lèfini ou tou di sa ou gen pou peye pou sa ou fè a!
41 Pwofèt la prese wete moso twal ki te bouche figi l’ la. Lamenm wa a rekonèt se yonn nan pwofèt yo.
42 Pwofèt la di wa a: -Men mesaj Seyè a voye di ou: Poutèt ou kite moun mwen te bay lòd pou yo touye a chape, se ou menm ki pral peye pou li. Ou pral mouri. Se lame ou ki pral peye pou lame pa l’. Yo pral mouri.
43 Se konsa, wa peyi Izrayèl la tounen lakay li lavil Samari, li te boulvèse, men li byen mare.

1 Ben Hadad, roi de Syrie, rassembla toute son armée; il avait avec lui trente-deux rois, des chevaux et des chars. Il monta, mit le siège devant Samarie et l’attaqua.
2 Il envoya dans la ville des messagers à Achab, roi d’Israël,
3 et lui fit dire: Ainsi parle Ben Hadad: Ton argent et ton or sont à moi, tes femmes et tes plus beaux enfants sont à moi.
4 Le roi d’Israël répondit: Roi, mon seigneur, comme tu le dis, je suis à toi avec tout ce que j’ai.
5 Les messagers retournèrent, et dirent: Ainsi parle Ben Hadad: Je t’ai fait dire: Tu me livreras ton argent et ton or, tes femmes et tes enfants.
6 J’enverrai donc demain, à cette heure, mes serviteurs chez toi; ils fouilleront ta maison et les maisons de tes serviteurs, ils mettront la main sur tout ce que tu as de précieux, et ils l’emporteront.
7 Le roi d’Israël appela tous les anciens du pays, et il dit: Sentez bien et comprenez que cet homme nous veut du mal; car il m’a envoyé demander mes femmes et mes enfants, mon argent et mon or, et je ne lui avais pas refusé!
8 Tous les anciens et tout le peuple dirent à Achab: Ne l’écoute pas et ne consens pas.
9 Et il dit aux messagers de Ben Hadad: Dites à mon seigneur le roi: Je ferai tout ce que tu as envoyé demander à ton serviteur la première fois; mais pour cette chose, je ne puis pas la faire. Les messagers s’en allèrent, et lui portèrent la réponse.
10 Ben Hadad envoya dire à Achab: Que les dieux me traitent dans toute leur rigueur, si la poussière de Samarie suffit pour remplir le creux de la main de tout le peuple qui me suit!
11 Et le roi d’Israël répondit: Que celui qui revêt une armure ne se glorifie pas comme celui qui la dépose!
12 Lorsque Ben Hadad reçut cette réponse, il était à boire avec les rois sous les tentes, et il dit à ses serviteurs: Faites vos préparatifs! Et ils firent leurs préparatifs contre la ville.
13 Mais voici, un prophète s’approcha d’Achab, roi d’Israël, et il dit: Ainsi parle l’Éternel: Vois-tu toute cette grande multitude? Je vais la livrer aujourd’hui entre tes mains, et tu sauras que je suis l’Éternel.
14 Achab dit: Par qui? Et il répondit: Ainsi parle l’Éternel: Par les serviteurs des chefs des provinces. Achab dit: Qui engagera le combat? Et il répondit: Toi.
15 Alors Achab passa en revue les serviteurs des chefs des provinces, et il s’en trouva deux cent trente-deux; et après eux, il passa en revue tout le peuple, tous les enfants d’Israël, et ils étaient sept mille.
16 Ils firent une sortie à midi. Ben Hadad buvait et s’enivrait sous les tentes avec les trente-deux rois, ses auxiliaires.
17 Les serviteurs des chefs des provinces sortirent les premiers. Ben Hadad s’informa, et on lui fit ce rapport: Des hommes sont sortis de Samarie.
18 Il dit: S’ils sortent pour la paix, saisissez-les vivants; et s’ils sortent pour le combat, saisissez-les vivants.
19 Lorsque les serviteurs des chefs des provinces et l’armée qui les suivait furent sortis de la ville,
20 chacun frappa son homme, et les Syriens prirent la fuite. Israël les poursuivit. Ben Hadad, roi de Syrie, se sauva sur un cheval, avec des cavaliers.
21 Le roi d’Israël sortit, frappa les chevaux et les chars, et fit éprouver aux Syriens une grande défaite.
22 Alors le prophète s’approcha du roi d’Israël, et lui dit: Va, fortifie toi, examine et vois ce que tu as à faire; car, au retour de l’année, le roi de Syrie montera contre toi.
23 Les serviteurs du roi de Syrie lui dirent: Leur dieu est un dieu de montagnes; c’est pourquoi ils ont été plus forts que nous. Mais combattons-les dans la plaine, et l’on verra si nous ne serons pas plus forts qu’eux.
24 Fais encore ceci: ôte chacun des rois de son poste, et remplace-les par des chefs;
25 et forme-toi une armée pareille à celle que tu as perdue, avec autant de chevaux et autant de chars. Puis nous les combattrons dans la plaine, et l’on verra si nous ne serons pas plus forts qu’eux. Il les écouta, et fit ainsi.
26 L’année suivante, Ben Hadad passa les Syriens en revue, et monta vers Aphek pour combattre Israël.
27 Les enfants d’Israël furent aussi passés en revue; ils reçurent des vivres, et ils marchèrent à la rencontre des Syriens. Ils campèrent vis-à-vis d’eux, semblables à deux petits troupeaux de chèvres, tandis que les Syriens remplissaient le pays.
28 L’homme de Dieu s’approcha, et dit au roi d’Israël: Ainsi parle l’Éternel: Parce que les Syriens ont dit: L’Éternel est un dieu des montagnes et non un dieu des vallées, je livrerai toute cette grande multitude entre tes mains, et vous saurez que je suis l’Éternel.
29 Ils campèrent sept jours en face les uns des autres. Le septième jour, le combat s’engagea, et les enfants d’Israël tuèrent aux Syriens cent mille hommes de pied en un jour.
30 Le reste s’enfuit à la ville d’Aphek, et la muraille tomba sur vingt-sept mille hommes qui restaient. Ben Hadad s’était réfugié dans la ville, où il allait de chambre en chambre.
31 Ses serviteurs lui dirent: Voici, nous avons appris que les rois de la maison d’Israël sont des rois miséricordieux; nous allons mettre des sacs sur nos reins et des cordes à nos têtes, et nous sortirons vers le roi d’Israël: peut-être qu’il te laissera la vie.
32 Ils se mirent des sacs autour des reins et des cordes autour de la tête, et ils allèrent auprès du roi d’Israël. Ils dirent: Ton serviteur Ben Hadad dit: Laisse-moi la vie! Achab répondit: Est-il encore vivant? Il est mon frère.
33 Ces hommes tirèrent de là un bon augure, et ils se hâtèrent de le prendre au mot et de dire: Ben Hadad est ton frère! Et il dit: Allez, amenez-le. Ben Hadad vint vers lui, et Achab le fit monter sur son char.
34 Ben Hadad lui dit: Je te rendrai les villes que mon père a prises à ton père; et tu établiras pour toi des rues à Damas, comme mon père en avait établies à Samarie. Et moi, reprit Achab, je te laisserai aller, en faisant une alliance. Il fit alliance avec lui, et le laissa aller.
35 L’un des fils des prophètes dit à son compagnon, d’après l’ordre de l’Éternel: Frappe-moi, je te prie! Mais cet homme refusa de le frapper.
36 Alors il lui dit: Parce que tu n’as pas obéi à la voix de l’Éternel, voici, quand tu m’auras quitté, le lion te frappera. Et quand il l’eut quitté, le lion le rencontra et le frappa.
37 Il trouva un autre homme, et il dit: Frappe-moi, je te prie! Cet homme le frappa et le blessa.
38 Le prophète alla se placer sur le chemin du roi, et il se déguisa avec un bandeau sur les yeux.
39 Lorsque le roi passa, il cria vers lui, et dit: Ton serviteur était au milieu du combat; et voici, un homme s’approche et m’amène un homme, en disant: Garde cet homme; s’il vient à manquer, ta vie répondra de sa vie, ou tu paieras un talent d’argent!
40 Et pendant que ton serviteur agissait çà et là, l’homme a disparu. Le roi d’Israël lui dit: C’est là ton jugement; tu l’as prononcé toi-même.
41 Aussitôt le prophète ôta le bandeau de dessus ses yeux, et le roi d’Israël le reconnut pour l’un des prophètes.
42 Il dit alors au roi: Ainsi parle l’Éternel: Parce que tu as laissé échapper de tes mains l’homme que j’avais dévoué par interdit, ta vie répondra de sa vie, et ton peuple de son peuple.
43 Le roi d’Israël s’en alla chez lui, triste et irrité, et il arriva à Samarie.

1 And Benhadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.
2 And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said unto him, Thus saith Benhadad,
3 Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, even the goodliest, are mine.
4 And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.
5 And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaketh Benhadad, saying, Although I have sent unto thee, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;
6 Yet I will send my servants unto thee to morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.
7 Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.
8 And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Hearken not unto him, nor consent.
9 Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Benhadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
10 And Benhadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.
11 And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his harness boast himself as he that putteth it off.
12 And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.
13 And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the Lord, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.
14 And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith the Lord, Even by the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall order the battle? And he answered, Thou.
15 Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.
16 And they went out at noon. But Benhadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.
17 And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Benhadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
18 And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.
19 So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.
20 And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Benhadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the horsemen.
21 And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.
22 And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.
23 And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
24 And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:
25 And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.
26 And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Benhadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
27 And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.
28 And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the Lord, Because the Syrians have said, The Lord is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
29 And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.
30 But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.
31 And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save thy life.
32 So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Benhadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
33 Now the men did diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Thy brother Benhadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Benhadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
34 And Ben-hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.
35 And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour in the word of the Lord, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.
36 Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the Lord, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.
37 Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded him.
38 So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face.
39 And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
40 And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it.
41 And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets.
42 And he said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.
43 And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
