1 Akab te gen swasanndis pitit gason nan lavil Samari. Jeou ekri yon lèt, li voye yon kopi bay tout chèf ki lavil Samari yo, bay chèf fanmi yo ak bay moun ki reskonsab pitit Akab yo. Men sa li voye di yo:
2 –Mwen konnen se nou menm ki gen reskonsablite tout pitit mèt nou yo, cha lagè li yo, chwal li yo, ranpa lavil la ak tout zam ki ladan l’. Resevwa n’a resevwa lèt sa a,
3 n’a chwazi yonn nan pitit mèt nou an, sa nou wè ki pi bon an, sa ki gen kalite pou sa, n’a mete l’ sou fotèy la nan plas papa l’. Lèfini, n’a goumen pou pran defans li.
4 Men mesye yo te pè anpil, yo di: –De wa pa t’ ka kenbe tèt ak li. Kote se nou ki pou ta rive fè l’!
5 Se konsa ofisye ki te anchaj palè a, gouvènè lavil la, chèf fanmi yo ak reskonsab pitit wa yo voye di Jeou: –Se sou zòd ou nou ye, n’ap fè tou sa ou di nou fè. Men, nou p’ap mete pesonn wa. W’a fè sa w’a wè ki pi bon.
6 Jeou voye yon dezyèm lèt ba yo, li di yo: –Si nou avè m’, si nou vle koute lòd mwen enben, denmen lè konsa, pote tèt pitit Akab yo ban mwen isit lavil Jizreyèl. Swasanndis pitit Akab yo te lakay grannèg lavil Samari ki t’ap elve yo.
7 Lè yo resevwa lèt Jeou a, yo touye swasanndis pitit Akab yo, yo mete tèt yo nan panyen, yo voye yo bay Jeou lavil Jizreyèl.
8 Lè yo vin di Jeou yo te pote tèt pitit wa Akab yo, li bay lòd pou yo fè de pil ak yo bò pòtay lavil la, kite yo la jouk denmen maten.
9 Nan denmen maten li soti, l’ ale kanpe bò pòtay la, li di moun ki te la yo: –Se mwen menm ki te fè konplo kont Joram, mèt mwen an, pou m’ te touye l’. Nou pa gen anyen pou nou wè nan sa. Men, sa yo, ki moun ki touye yo?
10 Sa vle di Seyè a pa nan pale mete la. Tou sa li te di sou fanmi Akab la te fèt pou rive vre. Se Seyè a menm ki fè tou sa rive jan li te di sa nan bouch Eli, sèvitè l’ la.
11 Se konsa Jeou touye tout rès fanmi Akab ki te lavil Jizreyèl, tout grannèg ki t’ap sèvi avè l’ li yo, bon zanmi l’ yo ak prèt li yo. Li pa kite yonn ladan yo vivan.
12 Apre sa, li pati pou lavil Samari. Sou wout la, lè li rive bò kan gadò mouton yo,
13 li jwenn ak kèk fanmi Okozyas, wa peyi Jida a. Li mande yo: –Ki moun nou ye? Yo reponn li: –Nou se fanmi wa Okozyas. Nou pral di pitit wa a ak pitit larenn lan bonjou.
14 Jeou bay moun ki te avè l’ yo lòd sa a: –Pran yo tou vivan! Yo pran yo tou vivan, yo koupe kou yo bò kan gadò mouton yo. Te gen karannde moun antou. Yo pa kite yonn ladan yo vivan.
15 Jeou pati ankò. Sou wout li, li kontre ak Jonadab, pitit gason Rekab la, ki t’ap mache vin jwenn li. Jeou di l’ bonjou, epi li di l’ konsa: –Ou gen menm lide avè m’? Eske w’ap mache avè m’? Jonadab reponn: –Wi, m’ap mache avè ou. Jeou di li: –Si nou dakò, ban m’ lanmen. Jonadab ak Jeou bay lanmen. Jeou ede l’ moute sou cha lagè a bò kote l’.
16 Li di l’ konsa: –Ann al avè m’. W’a wè jan mwen soti pou m’ sèvi Seyè a. Se konsa yo pati ansanm sou cha a.
17 Lè yo rive lavil Samari, Jeou touye dènye rès moun nan fanmi Akab la. Li pa kite yonn ladan yo vivan, dapre pawòl Seyè a te mete nan bouch pwofèt Eli a.
18 Apre sa, Jeou reyini tout pèp lavil Samari a, li di yo: –Akab te sèvi Baal yon ti kras, mwen menm m’ap sèvi l’ plis pase l’.
19 Se poutèt sa, fè chache tout pwofèt yo, tout sèvitè Baal yo ak tout prèt li yo, fè yo vin jwenn mwen. Mwen vle pou tout moun la, paske mwen gen pou m’ fè yon gwo sèvis pou Baal. Si yon moun pa la l’ap mouri. Men se yon plan Jeou te gen nan tèt li pou l’ te touye tout moun k’ap sèvi Baal.
20 Se poutèt sa li bay lòd pou yo fè tout moun konnen yo pral fè yon gwo sèvis pou Baal. Yo fè piblikasyon an.
21 Jeou voye bay nouvèl la nan tout peyi Izrayèl la. Tout moun ki sèvi Baal yo vini. Pa t’ gen yonn ki pa t’ la. Yo tout antre nan tanp Baal la, yo plenn l’ nèt.
22 Jeou rele moun ki te reskonsab rad seremoni yo, li di l’ konsa: –Pran rad seremoni bay tout sèvitè Baal yo. Nonm lan mete rad yo deyò, li bay yo chak yonn.
23 Lèfini, Jeou ak Jonadab, pitit Rekab la, rive nan tanp Baal la, li di moun yo: –Se pou nou sèten se renk moun ki sèvi Baal ki la avè nou. Pa kite ankenn moun k’ap sèvi Seyè a nan mitan nou.
24 Tout moun yo antre nan tanp lan pou ofri bèt pou yo touye pou Baal ak bèt pou yo boule pou li. Men, Jeou te mete katreven moun pa l’ sou deyò tanp lan. Li te avèti yo, li te di yo: –Si yonn nan nou kite yonn nan moun mwen pral lage nan men nou yo chape, se li menm k’ap mouri nan plas li.
25 Fini Jeou fini boule bèt yo pou Baal, li di gad yo ak kaptenn yo: –Antre, touye yo tout! Pa kite yonn ladan yo chape! Mesye Jeou yo antre ak nepe nan men yo, yo touye tout moun, yo trennen kadav yo met deyò. Lèfini, yo tounen nan pyès kote lotèl la ye nan tanp Baal la.
26 Yo pran poto yo te mete kanpe pou Baal la, yo pote l’ deyò, yo boule l’.
27 Yo demoli lotèl Baal la ansanm ak tanp lan. Yo pran tanp lan yo fè l’ sèvi latrin jouk jounen jòdi a.
28 Se konsa Jeou fè disparèt sèvis Baal nan peyi Izrayèl la.
29 Men li tonbe nan menm peche ak wa Jewoboram, pitit Nebat la, ki te lakòz pèp Izrayèl fè sa ki mal: li sèvi estati lò an fòm towo bèf ki te lavil Betèl ak lavil Dann.
30 Seyè a di Jeou konsa: –Ou fè fanmi wa Akab la tou sa m’ te vle fè yo. Ou byen fèt, ou fè sa ki dwat nan je m’. Se poutèt sa, pitit pitit ou yo pral wa nan peyi Izrayèl la rive sou kat jenerasyon.
31 Men, Jeou pa t’ bat kò l’ plis pase sa pou l’ te mache dapre lalwa Seyè a. Okontrè, li lage kò l’ nan fè menm peche ak wa Jewoboram ki te lakòz pèp Izrayèl la fè sa ki mal.
32 Lè sa a, Seyè a konmanse wonyen sou teritwa peyi Izrayèl la. Wa Azayèl atake moun Izrayèl yo toupatou nan peyi a,
33 depi sou bò solèy leve larivyè Jouden jouk lavil Awoyè, anwo ravin Amon an nan sid, ki vle di nan tout peyi Galarad la ak peyi Bazan an kote moun branch fanmi Gad, fanmi Woubenn ak fanmi Manase yo rete.
34 Tout rès istwa Jeou a ansanm ak tou sa li te fè ak kote yo rakonte jan li te vanyan sòlda, n’a jwenn tou sa ekri nan liv Istwa wa Izrayèl yo.
35 Lè Jeou mouri, yo antere l’ lavil Samari. Se Joakaz, pitit li, ki moute wa nan plas li.
36 Jeou te gouvènen peyi Izrayèl pandan ventwitan nan lavil Samari.

1 Il y avait dans Samarie soixante-dix fils d’Achab. Jéhu écrivit des lettres qu’il envoya à Samarie aux chefs de Jizreel, aux anciens, et aux gouverneurs des enfants d’Achab. Il y était dit:
2 Maintenant, quand cette lettre vous sera parvenue, -puisque vous avez avec vous les fils de votre maître, avec vous les chars et les chevaux, une ville forte et les armes, –
3 voyez lequel des fils de votre maître est le meilleur et convient le mieux, mettez-le sur le trône de son père, et combattez pour la maison de votre maître!
4 Ils eurent une très grande peur, et ils dirent: Voici, deux rois n’ont pu lui résister; comment résisterions-nous?
5 Et le chef de la maison, le chef de la ville, les anciens, et les gouverneurs des enfants, envoyèrent dire à Jéhu: Nous sommes tes serviteurs, et nous ferons tout ce que tu nous diras; nous n’établirons personne roi, fais ce qui te semble bon.
6 Jéhu leur écrivit une seconde lettre où il était dit: Si vous êtes à moi et si vous obéissez à ma voix, prenez les têtes de ces hommes, fils de votre maître, et venez auprès de moi demain à cette heure, à Jizreel. Or les soixante-dix fils du roi étaient chez les grands de la ville, qui les élevaient.
7 Quand la lettre leur fut parvenue, ils prirent les fils du roi, et ils égorgèrent ces soixante-dix hommes; puis ils mirent leurs têtes dans des corbeilles, et les envoyèrent à Jéhu, à Jizreel.
8 Le messager vint l’en informer, en disant: Ils ont apporté les têtes des fils du roi. Et il dit: Mettez-les en deux tas à l’entrée de la porte, jusqu’au matin.
9 Le matin, il sortit; et se présentant à tout le peuple, il dit: Vous êtes justes! voici, moi, j’ai conspiré contre mon maître et je l’ai tué; mais qui a frappé tous ceux-ci?
10 Sachez donc qu’il ne tombera rien à terre de la parole de l’Éternel, de la parole que l’Éternel a prononcée contre la maison d’Achab; l’Éternel accomplit ce qu’il a déclaré par son serviteur Élie.
11 Et Jéhu frappa tous ceux qui restaient de la maison d’Achab à Jizreel, tous ses grands, ses familiers et ses ministres, sans en laisser échapper un seul.
12 Puis il se leva, et partit pour aller à Samarie. Arrivé à une maison de réunion des bergers, sur le chemin,
13 Jéhu trouva les frères d’Achazia, roi de Juda, et il dit: Qui êtes-vous? Ils répondirent: Nous sommes les frères d’Achazia, et nous descendons pour saluer les fils du roi et les fils de la reine.
14 Jéhu dit: Saisissez-les vivants. Et ils les saisirent vivants, et les égorgèrent au nombre de quarante-deux, à la citerne de la maison de réunion; Jéhu n’en laissa échapper aucun.
15 Étant parti de là, il rencontra Jonadab, fils de Récab, qui venait au-devant de lui. Il le salua, et lui dit: Ton coeur est-il sincère, comme mon coeur l’est envers le tien? Et Jonadab répondit: Il l’est. S’il l’est, répliqua Jéhu, donne-moi ta main. Jonadab lui donna la main. Et Jéhu le fit monter auprès de lui dans son char,
16 et dit: Viens avec moi, et tu verras mon zèle pour l’Éternel. Il l’emmena ainsi dans son char.
17 Lorsque Jéhu fut arrivé à Samarie, il frappa tous ceux qui restaient d’Achab à Samarie, et il les détruisit entièrement, selon la parole que l’Éternel avait dite à Élie.
18 Puis il assembla tout le peuple, et leur dit: Achab a peu servi Baal, Jéhu le servira beaucoup.
19 Maintenant convoquez auprès de moi tous les prophètes de Baal, tous ses serviteurs et tous ses prêtres, sans qu’il en manque un seul, car je veux offrir un grand sacrifice à Baal: quiconque manquera ne vivra pas. Jéhu agissait avec ruse, pour faire périr les serviteurs de Baal.
20 Il dit: Publiez une fête en l’honneur de Baal. Et ils la publièrent.
21 Il envoya des messagers dans tout Israël; et tous les serviteurs de Baal arrivèrent, il n’y en eut pas un qui ne vînt; ils entrèrent dans la maison de Baal, et la maison de Baal fut remplie d’un bout à l’autre.
22 Jéhu dit à celui qui avait la garde du vestiaire: Sors des vêtements pour tous les serviteurs de Baal. Et cet homme sortit des vêtements pour eux.
23 Alors Jéhu vint à la maison de Baal avec Jonadab, fils de Récab, et il dit aux serviteurs de Baal: Cherchez et regardez, afin qu’il n’y ait pas ici des serviteurs de l’Éternel, mais qu’il y ait seulement des serviteurs de Baal.
24 Et ils entrèrent pour offrir des sacrifices et des holocaustes. Jéhu avait placé dehors quatre-vingts hommes, en leur disant: Celui qui laissera échapper quelqu’un des hommes que je remets entre vos mains, sa vie répondra de la sienne.
25 Lorsqu’on eut achevé d’offrir les holocaustes, Jéhu dit aux coureurs et aux officiers: Entrez, frappez-les, que pas un ne sorte. Et ils les frappèrent du tranchant de l’épée. Les coureurs et les officiers les jetèrent là, et ils allèrent jusqu’à la ville de la maison de Baal.
26 Ils tirèrent dehors les statues de la maison de Baal, et les brûlèrent.
27 Ils renversèrent la statue de Baal, ils renversèrent aussi la maison de Baal, et ils en firent un cloaque, qui a subsisté jusqu’à ce jour.
28 Jéhu extermina Baal du milieu d’Israël;
29 mais il ne se détourna point des péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, qui avait fait pécher Israël, il n’abandonna point les veaux d’or qui étaient à Béthel et à Dan.
30 L’Éternel dit à Jéhu: Parce que tu as bien exécuté ce qui était droit à mes yeux, et que tu as fait à la maison d’Achab tout ce qui était conforme à ma volonté, tes fils jusqu’à la quatrième génération seront assis sur le trône d’Israël.
31 Toutefois Jéhu ne prit point garde à marcher de tout son coeur dans la loi de l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël; il ne se détourna point des péchés que Jéroboam avait fait commettre à Israël.
32 Dans ce temps-là, l’Éternel commença à entamer le territoire d’Israël; et Hazaël les battit sur toute la frontière d’Israël.
33 Depuis le Jourdain, vers le soleil levant, il battit tout le pays de Galaad, les Gadites, les Rubénites et les Manassites, depuis Aroër sur le torrent de l’Arnon jusqu’à Galaad et à Basan.
34 Le reste des actions de Jéhu, tout ce qu’il a fait, et tous ses exploits, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d’Israël?
35 Jéhu se coucha avec ses pères, et on l’enterra à Samarie. Et Joachaz, son fils, régna à sa place.
36 Jéhu avait régné vingt-huit ans sur Israël à Samarie.

1 And Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria, unto the rulers of Jezreel, to the elders, and to them that brought up Ahab’s children, saying,
2 Now as soon as this letter cometh to you, seeing your master’s sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, a fenced city also, and armour;
3 Look even out the best and meetest of your master’s sons, and set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.
4 But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand?
5 And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt bid us; we will not make any king: do thou that which is good in thine eyes.
6 Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If ye be mine, and if ye will hearken unto my voice, take ye the heads of the men your master’s sons, and come to me to Jezreel by to morrow this time. Now the king’s sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, which brought them up.
7 And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Jezreel.
8 And there came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king’s sons. And he said, Lay ye them in two heaps at the entering in of the gate until the morning.
9 And it came to pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, Ye be righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him: but who slew all these?
10 Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the Lord, which the Lord spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the Lord hath done that which he spake by his servant Elijah.
11 So Jehu slew all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his kinsfolks, and his priests, until he left him none remaining.
12 And he arose and departed, and came to Samaria. And as he was at the shearing house in the way,
13 Jehu met with the brethren of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, Who are ye? And they answered, We are the brethren of Ahaziah; and we go down to salute the children of the king and the children of the queen.
14 And he said, Take them alive. And they took them alive, and slew them at the pit of the shearing house, even two and forty men; neither left he any of them.
15 And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him: and he saluted him, and said to him, Is thine heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it be, give me thine hand. And he gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot.
16 And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord. So they made him ride in his chariot.
17 And when he came to Samaria, he slew all that remained unto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the saying of the Lord, which he spake to Elijah.
18 And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much.
19 Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.
20 And Jehu said, Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.
21 And Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was full from one end to another.
22 And he said unto him that was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments.
23 And Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of Baal, and said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the Lord, but the worshippers of Baal only.
24 And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.
25 And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.
26 And they brought forth the images out of the house of Baal, and burned them.
27 And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught house unto this day.
28 Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
29 Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Bethel, and that were in Dan.
30 And the Lord said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.
31 But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
32 In those days the Lord began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote them in all the coasts of Israel;
33 From Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.
34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
35 And Jehu slept with his fathers: and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in his stead.
36 And the time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty and eight years.
