1 Lè sa a, pèp la pran rele byen fò, yo pase tout nwit la ap kriye san rete.
2 Yo tout t’ap bougonnen sou Moyiz ak Arawon. Yo vin di yo konsa: -Pito nou te mouri nan peyi Lejip osinon nan dezè a!
3 Poukisa Seyè a mennen nou nan peyi sa a? Koulye a, yo pral touye nou nan lagè, yo pral pran madanm ak pitit nou yo fè yo tounen esklav. Pa pito nou tounen nan peyi Lejip?
4 Yonn t’ap di lòt: -Ann chwazi yon lòt chèf! Ann tounen nan peyi Lejip!
5 Lè Moyiz ak Arawon wè sa, yo tonbe fas atè devan tout pèp la ki te sanble la a.
6 Lè sa a, de nan mesye espyon yo, Jozye, pitit gason Noun lan, ak Kalèb, pitit gason Jefoune a, chire rad ki te sou yo sitèlman yo te fache.
7 Epi yo di pèp la: -Peyi nou te al vizite a se yon bon bon peyi.
8 Si Seyè a vle fè sa pou nou, l’ap fè nou antre nan peyi a, l’ap ban nou li. Se yon peyi ki rich anpil, yon peyi kote lèt ak siwo myèl koule tankou dlo.
9 Sèlman, pa kenbe tèt ak Seyè a! Nou pa bezwen pè moun k’ap viv nan peyi sa a. N’ap manje yo tankou kann. Bondye ki t’ap pwoteje yo a kouri mete deyò. Men Seyè a kanpe la avèk nou. Nou pa bezwen pè yo.
10 Lè sa a, tout pèp la ranmase wòch pou yo kalonnen Jozye ak Kalèb. Men, lamenm pouvwa Bondye a parèt anwo Tant Randevou a, li fè tout pèp la wè l’.
11 Seyè a di Moyiz konsa: -Kilè pèp sa a va sispann meprize mwen? Kilè y’a soti pou yo fè m’ konfyans? Gade tout bèl bagay mwen te fè pou yo. Malgre sa, yo pa vle kwè m’ toujou!
12 M’ap voye yon sèl epidemi sou yo, m’ap touye yo tout. M’ap anpeche yo pran posesyon tè ki pou yo a. Men ou menm, m’ap fè ou tounen yon nasyon k’ap pi gwo, k’ap pi fò pase yo.
13 Men, Moyiz di Seyè a konsa: -Se ou menm ak fòs ponyèt ou ki te fè pèp Izrayèl la soti kite peyi Lejip la.
14 Lè moun pèyi Lejip yo va vin konnen sa ou pral fè pèp la, y’a rakonte l’ bay moun ki rete nan peyi Kanaran yo. Yo menm tou, yo deja konnen se ou menm, Seyè, ki kanpe la nan mitan pèp la, se ou menm ki parèt aklè devan je yo, se nwaj ou, Granmèt, ki rete anwo yo. Se ou menm ki t’ap mache devan yo lajounen nan yon gwo nwaj ki te gen fòm yon poto, lannwit nan yon gwo flanm dife ki te gen fòm yon poto tou.
15 Koulye a, si ou rete konsa ou touye tout pèp ou a, moun lòt nasyon yo ki te tande pale ki kalite moun ou ye, yo pral di
16 se kapab ou pa t’ kapab mennen pèp la nan peyi ou te fè sèman w’ap ba yo a kifè ou touye yo nan dezè a.
17 Non. Seyè! Se koulye a pou ou fè wè gwo pouvwa ou la, jan ou te pwomèt l’ a, lè ou te di:
18 Se mwen menm ki Seyè a, mwen pa an kòlè fasil, mwen p’ap janm sispann renmen nou. M’ap toujou padonnen sa nou fè ki mal ak sa nou te dwe fè nou pa fè. Men, mwen pa nan kase fèy kouvri sa ak pesonn. Si yon moun fè yon bagay mal, m’ap pini pitit li, pitit pitit li, ak pitit pitit pitit li yo pou sa li fè a, jouk sou twazyèm ak katriyèm jenerasyon.
19 Tanpri, jan ou gen bon kè sa a, padonnen sa pèp la fè ki mal la, menm jan ou te pran pasyans ak yo depi yo kite peyi Lejip jouk yo rive isit la.
20 Seyè a di: -M’ap padonnen yo, jan ou mande m’ lan.
21 Men, menm jan ou wè mwen vivan an, menm jan ou wè pouvwa mwen toupatou sou latè,
22 okenn nan moun sa yo p’ap rive viv lontan ase pou yo antre nan peyi a. Yo te wè pouvwa mwen, yo te wè tout bèl bagay mwen te fè nan peyi Lejip ak nan dezè a. Men anpil fwa deja, yo chache wè jouk ki bò mwen ye ak yo, yo pa janm vle koute m’ lè m’ pale ak yo.
23 Yo p’ap menm wè peyi mwen te sèmante mwen t’ap bay zansèt yo a. Yo tout ki vire do ban mwen yo, yo yonn p’ap wè peyi a.
24 Men, paske Kalèb, sèvitè m’ lan, pa aji tankou yo, li swiv mwen san gad dèyè, m’ap fè l’ antre nan peyi li te al rekonèt la. Pitit pitit li yo va pran peyi a pou yo.
25 Y’a rete nan plenn kote moun Amalèk yo ak moun Kanaran yo rete koulye a. Denmen n’ap fè bak, n’a tounen nan dezè a ankò nan direksyon Lanmè Wouj la.
26 Apre sa, Seyè a pale ak Moyiz ansanm ak Arawon, li di yo konsa:
27 -Kilè bann moun mechan sa yo va sispann bougonnen sou do mwen konsa? Mwen bouke tande jan moun pèp Izrayèl yo ap pale m’ mal.
28 Men sa pou ou di yo pou mwen: Se mwen menm menm, Seyè a, ki di sa. Menm jan nou wè m’ vivan an, mwen fè sèman sa nou te di k’ap rive nou an, se li k’ap rive nou vre.
29 Y’ap antere kadav nou tout nan dezè a. Nou tout ki t’ap bougonnen sou mwen yo, nou tout yo te konte lè resansman an, nou tout ki gen ventan ak sa ki pi gran yo, nou yonn p’ap antre nan peyi a.
30 Dakò! Mwen te fè sèman mwen t’ap fè nou al rete nan peyi a. Men, nou yonn p’ap gen chans lan, esepte Kalèb, pitit gason Jefoune a, ak Jozye, pitit gason Noun lan.
31 Nou te di pitit pitit nou yo pral tonbe anba men lènmi nou yo. Men, se yo menm m’ap fè antre nan peyi nou menm nou refize al pran an.
32 Men, nou menm y’ap antere kadav nou yo isit nan dezè a.
33 Pitit nou yo pral moute desann nan tout dezè a. Pandan karant lanne, y’a peye pou vire nou te vire do ban mwen an, jouk nou tout nèt n’a fin mouri nan dezè a.
34 Nou menm, n’a peye konsekans peche nou an pandan karant lanne, yon lanne pou chak jou nan karant jou nou te pase ap vizite peyi a. Lè sa a, n’a konnen sa sa vle di lè m’ vire do bay moun.
35 Se mwen menm Seyè a ki di sa: Mwen fè sèman se konsa mwen pral aji ak bann moun sa yo ki mete tèt yo ansanm sou do m’. Yo tout gen pou yo disparèt nan dezè sa a. Wi, se la menm yo tout ap mouri.
36 Mesye Moyiz te voye al rekonèt peyi a te fè tout pèp la ap bougonnen sou Moyiz avèk move rapò yo te fè sou peyi a, lè yo te tounen an.
37 Se konsa yon sèl maladi tonbe sou mesye sa yo ki te pale peyi a mal konsa. Yo tonbe, yo mouri frèt devan Seyè a.
38 Nan douz mesye ki te al vizite peyi a, se de sèlman ki pa t’ mouri: se te Jozye, pitit gason Noun lan, ak Kalèb, pitit gason Jefoune a.
39 Lè Moyiz di moun pèp Izrayèl yo tout pawòl sa yo, sa te fè yo lapenn anpil.
40 Nan denmen maten, byen bònè, yo leve pou y’ al janbe lòt bò mòn yo pou yo antre nan peyi a. Yo t’ap di: -Men nou! Nou pare pou n’ ale kote Seyè a di pou n’ ale a. Nou rekonèt sa nou te fè a mal.
41 Men Moyiz di yo: -Pouki pou n’ap dezobeyi lòd Seyè a ankò? Sa p’ap mache pou nou non, fwa sa a!
42 Piga nou moute. Seyè a vire do ban nou, nou pa bezwen ale fè lènmi nou yo bat nou pou gremesi.
43 Lè n’a rive devan moun Amalèk yo ak moun Kanaran yo, nou pral mouri nan batay la. Seyè a p’ap kanpe la avèk nou, paske nou te vire do ba li.
44 Pèp la fè tèt di, yo moute moute yo sou mòn yo pou yo seye antre nan peyi a. Men, ni Bwat Kontra Seyè a, ni Moyiz pa deplase kote yo te ye nan kan an.
45 Se konsa moun Amalèk yo ak moun Kanaran yo ki te rete nan mòn yo desann, yo bat yo, yo kouri dèyè yo jouk yon kote yo rele Oma.

1 Toute l’assemblée éleva la voix et poussa des cris, et le peuple pleura pendant la nuit.
2 Tous les enfants d’Israël murmurèrent contre Moïse et Aaron, et toute l’assemblée leur dit: Que ne sommes-nous morts dans le pays d’Égypte, ou que ne sommes-nous morts dans ce désert!
3 Pourquoi l’Éternel nous fait-il aller dans ce pays, où nous tomberons par l’épée, où nos femmes et nos petits enfants deviendront une proie? Ne vaut-il pas mieux pour nous retourner en Égypte?
4 Et ils se dirent l’un à l’autre: Nommons un chef, et retournons en Égypte.
5 Moïse et Aaron tombèrent sur leur visage, en présence de toute l’assemblée réunie des enfants d’Israël.
6 Et, parmi ceux qui avaient exploré le pays, Josué, fils de Nun, et Caleb, fils de Jephunné, déchirèrent leurs vêtements,
7 et parlèrent ainsi à toute l’assemblée des enfants d’Israël: Le pays que nous avons parcouru, pour l’explorer, est un pays très bon, excellent.
8 Si l’Éternel nous est favorable, il nous mènera dans ce pays, et nous le donnera: c’est un pays où coulent le lait et le miel.
9 Seulement, ne soyez point rebelles contre l’Éternel, et ne craignez point les gens de ce pays, car ils nous serviront de pâture, ils n’ont plus d’ombrage pour les couvrir, l’Éternel est avec nous, ne les craignez point!
10 Toute l’assemblée parlait de les lapider, lorsque la gloire de l’Éternel apparut sur la tente d’assignation, devant tous les enfants d’Israël.
11 Et l’Éternel dit à Moïse: Jusqu’à quand ce peuple me méprisera-t-il? Jusqu’à quand ne croira-t-il pas en moi, malgré tous les prodiges que j’ai faits au milieu de lui?
12 Je le frapperai par la peste, et je le détruirai; mais je ferai de toi une nation plus grande et plus puissante que lui.
13 Moïse dit à l’Éternel: Les Égyptiens l’apprendront, eux du milieu desquels tu as fait monter ce peuple par ta puissance,
14 et ils le diront aux habitants de ce pays. Ils savaient que toi, l’Éternel, tu es au milieu de ce peuple; que tu apparais visiblement, toi, l’Éternel; que ta nuée se tient sur lui; que tu marches devant lui le jour dans une colonne de nuée, et la nuit dans une colonne de feu.
15 Si tu fais mourir ce peuple comme un seul homme, les nations qui ont entendu parler de toi diront:
16 L’Éternel n’avait pas le pouvoir de mener ce peuple dans le pays qu’il avait juré de lui donner: c’est pour cela qu’il l’a égorgé dans le désert.
17 Maintenant, que la puissance du Seigneur se montre dans sa grandeur, comme tu l’as déclaré en disant:
18 L’Éternel est lent à la colère et riche en bonté, il pardonne l’iniquité et la rébellion; mais il ne tient point le coupable pour innocent, et il punit l’iniquité des pères sur les enfants jusqu’à la troisième et la quatrième génération.
19 Pardonne l’iniquité de ce peuple, selon la grandeur de ta miséricorde, comme tu as pardonné à ce peuple depuis l’Égypte jusqu’ici.
20 Et l’Éternel dit: Je pardonne, comme tu l’as demandé.
21 Mais, je suis vivant! et la gloire de l’Éternel remplira toute la terre.
22 Tous ceux qui ont vu ma gloire, et les prodiges que j’ai faits en Égypte et dans le désert, qui m’ont tenté déjà dix fois, et qui n’ont point écouté ma voix,
23 tous ceux-là ne verront point le pays que j’ai juré à leurs pères de leur donner, tous ceux qui m’ont méprisé ne le verront point.
24 Et parce que mon serviteur Caleb a été animé d’un autre esprit, et qu’il a pleinement suivi ma voie, je le ferai entrer dans le pays où il est allé, et ses descendants le posséderont.
25 Les Amalécites et les Cananéens habitent la vallée: demain, tournez-vous, et partez pour le désert, dans la direction de la mer Rouge.
26 L’Éternel parla à Moïse et à Aaron, et dit:
27 Jusqu’à quand laisserai-je cette méchante assemblée murmurer contre moi? J’ai entendu les murmures des enfants d’Israël qui murmuraient contre moi.
28 Dis-leur: Je suis vivant! dit l’Éternel, je vous ferai ainsi que vous avez parlé à mes oreilles.
29 Vos cadavres tomberont dans ce désert. Vous tous, dont on a fait le dénombrement, en vous comptant depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, et qui avez murmuré contre moi,
30 vous n’entrerez point dans le pays que j’avais juré de vous faire habiter, excepté Caleb, fils de Jephunné, et Josué, fils de Nun.
31 Et vos petits enfants, dont vous avez dit: Ils deviendront une proie! je les y ferai entrer, et ils connaîtront le pays que vous avez dédaigné.
32 Vos cadavres, à vous, tomberont dans le désert;
33 et vos enfants paîtront quarante années dans le désert, et porteront la peine de vos infidélités, jusqu’à ce que vos cadavres soient tous tombés dans le désert.
34 De même que vous avez mis quarante jours à explorer le pays, vous porterez la peine de vos iniquités quarante années, une année pour chaque jour; et vous saurez ce que c’est que d’être privé de ma présence.
35 Moi, l’Éternel, j’ai parlé! et c’est ainsi que je traiterai cette méchante assemblée qui s’est réunie contre moi; ils seront consumés dans ce désert, ils y mourront.
36 Les hommes que Moïse avait envoyés pour explorer le pays, et qui, à leur retour, avaient fait murmurer contre lui toute l’assemblée, en décriant le pays;
37 ces hommes, qui avaient décrié le pays, moururent frappés d’une plaie devant l’Éternel.
38 Josué, fils de Nun, et Caleb, fils de Jephunné, restèrent seuls vivants parmi ces hommes qui étaient allés pour explorer le pays.
39 Moïse rapporta ces choses à tous les enfants d’Israël, et le peuple fut dans une grande désolation.
40 Ils se levèrent de bon matin, et montèrent au sommet de la montagne, en disant: Nous voici! nous monterons au lieu dont a parlé l’Éternel, car nous avons péché.
41 Moïse dit: Pourquoi transgressez-vous l’ordre de l’Éternel? Cela ne réussira point.
42 Ne montez pas! car l’Éternel n’est pas au milieu de vous. Ne vous faites pas battre par vos ennemis.
43 Car les Amalécites et les Cananéens sont là devant vous, et vous tomberez par l’épée. Parce que vous vous êtes détournés de l’Éternel, l’Éternel ne sera point avec vous.
44 Ils s’obstinèrent à monter au sommet de la montagne; mais l’arche de l’alliance et Moïse ne sortirent point du milieu du camp.
45 Alors descendirent les Amalécites et les Cananéens qui habitaient cette montagne; ils les battirent, et les taillèrent en pièces jusqu’à Horma.

1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!
3 And wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.
5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:
7 And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.
8 If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
9 Only rebel not ye against the Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the Lord is with us: fear them not.
10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.
11 And the Lord said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?
12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.
13 And Moses said unto the Lord, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)
14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou Lord art among this people, that thou Lord art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.
15 Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,
16 Because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.
17 And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,
18 The Lord is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
19 Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
20 And the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word:
21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord.
22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;
23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:
24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.
25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
26 And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:
29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me.
30 Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
31 But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.
32 But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.
33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
35 I the Lord have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
36 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,
37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the Lord.
38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.
39 And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.
40 And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the Lord hath promised: for we have sinned.
41 And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the Lord? but it shall not prosper.
42 Go not up, for the Lord is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.
43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the Lord, therefore the Lord will not be with you.
44 But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.
45 Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.
