1 Lè sa a, moun branch fanmi Efrayim yo reyini ansanm, yo janbe lòt bò larivyè Jouden, y’ al lavil Zafon. Yo di Jefte konsa: -Poukisa ou travèse al goumen ak moun Amon yo san ou pa rele nou ale avè ou? Se poutèt sa, nou pral boule kay ou a sou ou.
2 Men Jefte di yo: -Moun pa m’ yo ansanm avè m’, nou te gen yon gwo kont ak moun Amon yo. Mwen te rele nou, men nou pa t’ vle vin delivre m’ anba men yo.
3 Lè m’ wè nou pa t’ soti pou nou vin pote m’ sekou, m’ al riske vi m’. Mwen travèse al goumen ak moun Amon yo, epi Seyè a lage yo nan men m’. Poukisa pou koulye a nou moute jouk lakay mwen vin chache m’ kont?
4 Lè sa a menm, Jefte sanble tout gason ki nan peyi Galarad la, y’ al goumen ak moun Efrayim yo. Yo bat yo byen bat. Moun Efrayim yo te konn joure moun Galarad yo. Yo te konn di: Moun Galarad yo, se yon bann trèt yo ye. Yo kite peyi yo, Efrayim, y’ al rete nan peyi Manase a!
5 Apre sa, moun Galarad yo pran kontwole tout pas larivyè Jouden kote pou janbe ale nan peyi Efrayim. Chak fwa yonn nan moun Efrayim yo rive pou yo kouri janbe al nan peyi yo, li te blije mande yo pèmisyon. Lè konsa, moun Galarad yo mande l’ èske se moun Efrayim li ye. Si li reponn non,
6 lè sa a yo mande l’ pou l’ di: Chibolèt. Men li di: Sibolèt paske li pa t’ ka rive di l’ jan yo di l’ la. Lamenm yo mete men sou li, yo touye l’ la nan pas la. Lè sa a, yo te touye karanndemil (42.000) moun nan branch fanmi Efrayim lan.
7 Jefte, moun Galarad la, te gouvènen pèp Izrayèl la pandan sizan. Apre sa, li mouri, epi yo antere l’ nan lavil kote li te fèt la nan peyi Galarad.
8 Apre Jefte, se Ibzan, moun lavil Betleyèm, ki te gouvènen pèp Izrayèl la.
9 Li te gen trant pitit gason ak trant pitit fi. Li marye trant pitit fi l’ yo ak moun ki pa t’ nan branch fanmi l’ epi li fè chache jenn fi nan lòt branch fanmi pou pitit gason l’ yo. Li gouvènen pèp Izrayèl la pandan sètan.
10 Apre sa, Ibzan mouri, yo antere l’ lavil Betleyèm.
11 Apre li, se Elon, moun Zabilon an, ki te gouvènen pèp Izrayèl la pandan dizan.
12 Lè Elon, moun Zabilon an, mouri, yo antere l’ lavil Ajalon nan peyi Zabilon.
13 Apre li, se Abdon, pitit gason Ilèl, moun lavil Piraton, ki t’ap gouvènen pèp Izrayèl la.
14 Li te gen karant pitit gason ak trant pitit pitit gason ki te konn moute sou swasanndis ti bourik. Li gouvènen pèp Izrayèl la pandan witan.
15 Lè Abdon, pitit gason Ilèl la, mouri, yo antere l’ lavil Piraton nan peyi Efrayim, nan mòn moun Amalèk yo.

1 Les hommes d’Éphraïm se rassemblèrent, partirent pour le nord, et dirent à Jephthé: Pourquoi es-tu allé combattre les fils d’Ammon sans nous avoir appelés à marcher avec toi? Nous voulons incendier ta maison et te brûler avec elle.
2 Jephthé leur répondit: Nous avons eu de grandes contestations, moi et mon peuple, avec les fils d’Ammon; et quand je vous ai appelés, vous ne m’avez pas délivré de leurs mains.
3 Voyant que tu ne venais pas à mon secours, j’ai exposé ma vie, et j’ai marché contre les fils d’Ammon. L’Éternel les a livrés entre mes mains. Pourquoi donc aujourd’hui montez-vous contre moi pour me faire la guerre?
4 Jephthé rassembla tous les hommes de Galaad, et livra bataille à Éphraïm. Les hommes de Galaad battirent Éphraïm, parce que les Éphraïmites disaient: Vous êtes des fugitifs d’Éphraïm! Galaad est au milieu d’Éphraïm, au milieu de Manassé!
5 Galaad s’empara des gués du Jourdain du côté d’Éphraïm. Et quand l’un des fuyards d’Éphraïm disait: Laissez-moi passer! les hommes de Galaad lui demandaient: Es-tu Éphraïmite? Il répondait: Non.
6 Ils lui disaient alors: Hé bien, dis Schibboleth. Et il disait Sibboleth, car il ne pouvait pas bien prononcer. Sur quoi les hommes de Galaad le saisissaient, et l’égorgeaient près des gués du Jourdain. Il périt en ce temps-là quarante-deux mille hommes d’Éphraïm.
7 Jephthé fut juge en Israël pendant six ans; puis Jephthé, le Galaadite, mourut, et fut enterré dans l’une des villes de Galaad.
8 Après lui, Ibtsan de Bethléhem fut juge en Israël.
9 Il eut trente fils, il maria trente filles au dehors, et il fit venir pour ses fils trente filles du dehors. Il fut juge en Israël pendant sept ans;
10 puis Ibtsan mourut, et fut enterré à Bethléhem.
11 Après lui, Élon de Zabulon fut juge en Israël. Il fut juge en Israël pendant dix ans;
12 puis Élon de Zabulon mourut, et fut enterré à Ajalon, dans le pays de Zabulon.
13 Après lui, Abdon, fils d’Hillel, le Pirathonite, fut juge en Israël.
14 Il eut quarante fils et trente petits-fils, qui montaient sur soixante dix ânons. Il fut juge en Israël pendant huit ans;
15 puis Abdon, fils d’Hillel, le Pirathonite, mourut, et fut enterré à Pirathon, dans le pays d’Éphraïm, sur la montagne des Amalécites.

1 And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.
2 And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.
3 And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the Lord delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?
4 Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.
5 And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;
6 Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
7 And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
8 And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.
9 And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
10 Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Bethlehem.
11 And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
12 And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.
13 And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.
14 And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
15 And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.
