1 Men pawòl Moyiz te di tout pèp Izrayèl la lè yo te lòt bò larivyè Jouden an, nan dezè a, nan plenn Araba ki anfas Souf: Yo te gen dezè Paran an sou yon bò ak lavil Tofèl, Liban, Azewòt ak Dizaab sou lòt bò a.
2 Pou mache soti mòn Sinayi rive Kadès-Banea, lè ou swiv wout ki pase nan mòn Seyi a, sa pran onz jou.
3 Se premye jou nan onzyèm mwa karantyèm lanne depi yo te soti kite peyi Lejip la Moyiz te fè pale sa a ak pèp Izrayèl la, jan Seyè a te mande l’ la.
4 Lè sa a, Seyè a te fin bat Siyon, wa peyi Amori a, ki te rete Esbon, ak Og, wa peyi Bazan an, ki te rete Astawòt nan zòn Edreyi.
5 Se antan pèp la te lòt bò larivyè Jouden, nan peyi Moab la, Moyiz tanmen esplike yo tou sa Seyè a te di. Li di yo konsa:
6 -Lè nou te sou mòn Orèb la, nou chonje Seyè a, Bondye nou an, te pale ak nou. Li te di nou: Koulye a, nou rete kont nou sou mòn sa a.
7 Ranmase tout zafè nou pati. Ale nan mòn peyi Amori yo ak nan tout lòt peyi ki toupre l’ yo, nan plenn Araba a, nan mòn yo, nan fon yo, nan Negèv la bò sid ak bò gwo lanmè Mediterane a. Ale nan peyi Kanaran an ak nan peyi Liban an jouk nou rive bò gwo larivyè Lefrat la.
8 Nou wè! Men m’ap ban nou tout peyi sa yo. Al pran posesyon peyi mwen menm Seyè a, mwen te pwomèt m’ap bay zansèt nou yo, Abraram, Izarak ak Jakòb, pou yo ak pou tout pitit yo ak pitit pitit yo apre yo.
9 Menm lè sa a, mwen te di nou: Mwen pa kapab reskonsab nou tout pou kont mwen, chay la twòp pou mwen.
10 Seyè a, Bondye nou an, ban nou anpil pitit, kifè koulye a nou vin anpil, tankou zetwal nan syèl la.
11 Se pou Seyè a, Bondye zansèt nou yo, ban nou mil fwa plis pitit pase sa nou gen koulye a. Se pou l’ beni nou jan li te pwomèt nou an.
12 Men, ki jan pou m’ fè pote tout chay sa a pou kont mwen, pou m’ jwenn solisyon pou tout pwoblèm nou, pou m’ regle tout kont nou gen yonn ak lòt?
13 Se poutèt sa, nan chak branch fanmi nou yo, chwazi kèk nèg ki gen lespri, ki gen bon konprann, ki konn lavi, m’a mete yo chèf pou dirije nou.
14 Lè sa a, nou te reponn mwen, nou te di m’ konsa: Sa ou mande nou fè la a bon wi!
15 Se konsa mwen pran nan chak branch fanmi nou yo moun ki gen lespri, moun ki konn lavi, mwen mete yo chèf pou dirije nou. Genyen mwen mete chèf sou mil gason, dòt sou san gason, dòt sou senkant gason, dòt ankò sou dis gason. Mwen te chwazi lòt chèf tou pou chak branch fanmi.
16 Lè sa a, men sa mwen te mande chèf nou yo pou yo fè: Chache konnen lè gen kont nan mitan pèp la. N’a regle tout kont yon moun ka gen ak frè parèy li osinon ak moun lòt nasyon k’ap viv nan mitan nou. N’a fè sa san patipri.
17 Nou p’ap nan achte figi lè n’ap jije yon bagay. Se pou nou jije tout moun menm jan, kit se yon ti malere, kit se yon grannèg. Nou pa bezwen pè pesonn paske n’ap jije dapre prensip Bondye bay. Lè se yon ka ki twò difisil pou nou, n’a pote l’ vin devan mwen, m’a jije l’ mwen menm.
18 Se konsa, menm lè sa a, mwen te ban nou lòd, mwen te di nou sa pou n’ fè ak sa pou n’ pa fè.
19 Apre sa, nou leve, nou kite mòn Orèb la. Jan Seyè a, Bondye nou an, te ban nou lòd la, nou mache nan tout gwo dezè ki gen anpil danje ladan l’ lan, dezè nou te wè a, nou pran chemen pou n’ al nan mòn peyi Amori yo, epi nou rive Kadès Banea.
20 Lè sa a, mwen di nou: Men nou rive nan mòn peyi Amori yo, peyi Seyè a, Bondye nou an, ap ban nou an.
21 Gade, men peyi Seyè a, Bondye nou an, ap ban nou an. Ale non, pran peyi a pou nou, jan Seyè a, Bondye zansèt nou yo, te di l’ la. Nou pa bezwen pè, kè nou pa pou janm kase.
22 Lè sa a nou tout, nou vin jwenn mwen, nou di m’ konsa: Ann voye kèk nèg pami nou devan pou y’ al wè ki jan peyi a ye. Y’a tounen vin esplike nou ki wout pou nou swiv ak nan ki lavil nou ka antre.
23 Mwen te wè sa nou di m’ lan se te bon koze. Se konsa mwen chwazi douz nèg, yonn nan chak branch fanmi.
24 Yo pati, yo pran chemen mòn lan jouk yo rive nan Fon Echkòl: yo vizite tout zòn lan nèt.
25 Yo pran kèk fwi peyi a donnen, yo pote ban nou. Epi yo di nou peyi Seyè a ap ban nou an se yon bon venn tè.
26 Men, nou pa t’ vle al ladan l’. Se konsa nou te derefize obeyi lòd Seyè a, Bondye nou an, te ban nou.
27 Nou antre lakay nou, nou pran plenyen. Epi nou di se vle Seyè a pa vle wè nou! Se poutèt sa li fè nou soti kite peyi Lejip pou l’ lage nou nan men moun peyi Amori yo pou yo ka fini ak nou.
28 Kote nou prale koulye a? Moun nou te voye yo dekouraje nou. Yo di nou moun ki nan peyi sa a pi fò pase nou, yo pi bèl wotè pase nou. Lavil yo gran anpil ak gwo ranpa byen wo ki rive jouk nan syèl la. Nou te menm wè kèk moun ras Anak yo la tou.
29 Men, mwen di nou: Kè nou pa bezwen kase, nou pa bezwen pè moun sa yo.
30 Seyè a, Bondye nou an, ap mache alatèt nou. Li pral goumen pou nou menm jan nou te wè l’ fè l’ la nan peyi Lejip
31 ak nan dezè a. Nou wè ki jan sou tout wout la li pa janm lage nou, tankou yon papa ki pa janm lage pitit li, jouk nou rive bò isit la.
32 Men, atout mwen te di nou sa, nou pa t’ vle mete konfyans nou nan Seyè a, Bondye nou an,
33 li menm ki te pran devan nou sou tout wout la pou l’ te ka jwenn kote pou nou moute kan nou. Lannwit, li te mache devan nou nan yon poto dife. Lajounen, nan yon gwo nwaj li te moutre nou chemen pou nou pran.
34 Lè Seyè a tande jan nou t’ap plenyen, li te fache anpil, li fè sèman, li di:
35 Pa gen yonn nan tout move sije sa yo k’ap viv koulye a k’ap antre nan bon peyi mwen te pwomèt m’ap bay zansèt nou yo,
36 an wetan Kalèb, pitit gason Jefoune a, ki va antre nan peyi sa a. M’a ba li peyi li te al espyonnen an, pou li ak pou pitit li yo, paske li te obeyi m’ san gad dèyè.
37 Nou lakòz Seyè a te fache ata avè m’, epi li di m’: Ou menm tou Moyiz, ou p’ap antre nan peyi a.
38 Se Jozye, pitit gason Noun lan, k’ap sèvi avè ou la, ki va antre nan plas ou. Ankouraje l’ tande, paske se li menm ki pou fè pèp Izrayèl la antre al pran peyi a.
39 Men, se pitit nou yo, sa nou di ki tapral tonbe anba men lènmi nou yo, timoun nou yo ki koulye a poko konnen sa ki byen ak sa ki mal, se yo menm ki pral antre nan peyi a. Se yo menm mwen pral bay peyi a, se yo menm ki pral rete ladan l’.
40 Men nou menm, tounen tounen nou nan dezè a! Pran chemen Lanmè Wouj la ankò!
41 Lè sa a nou reponn mwen: Nou rekonèt nou peche kont Seyè a. Nou prale, epi n’a goumen jan Seyè a, Bondye nou an, te ban nou lòd la. Epi nou leve nou pran zam nou. Nou te kwè sa tapral fasil pou nou pran mòn yo.
42 Men, Seyè a di m’ avèti nou: Piga n’ al atake, piga n’ al fè lènmi nou yo bat nou, paske li p’ap kanpe avèk nou.
43 Mwen te pale nou, men nou pa t’ koute m’, nou derefize swiv lòd Seyè a te ban nou. Nou te konprann nou te fò kont kò nou pou n’ te al pran mòn lan.
44 Lè sa a, moun peyi Amori yo ki te rete nan mòn yo soti vin kontre ak nou. Tankou yon desen myèl, yo kouri dèyè nou, yo bat nou byen bat nan tout peyi Seyi a rive jouk Oma.
45 Lè nou tounen, nou kriye nan pye Seyè a, men Seyè a pa t’ koute sa nou t’ap di l’, li pa t’ pran ka nou.
46 Se poutèt sa nou te blije pase tout tan sa a nan zòn Kadès la.

1 Voici les paroles que Moïse adressa à tout Israël, de l’autre côté du Jourdain, dans le désert, dans la plaine, vis-à-vis de Suph, entre Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hatséroth et Di Zahab.
2 Il y a onze journées depuis Horeb, par le chemin de la montagne de Séir, jusqu’à Kadès Barnéa.
3 Dans la quarantième année, au onzième mois, le premier du mois, Moïse parla aux enfants d’Israël selon tout ce que l’Éternel lui avait ordonné de leur dire.
4 C’était après qu’il eut battu Sihon, roi des Amoréens, qui habitait à Hesbon, et Og, roi de Basan, qui habitait à Aschtaroth et à Édréi.
5 De l’autre côté du Jourdain, dans le pays de Moab, Moïse commença à expliquer cette loi, et dit:
6 L’Éternel, notre Dieu, nous a parlé à Horeb, en disant: Vous avez assez demeuré dans cette montagne.
7 Tournez-vous, et partez; allez à la montagne des Amoréens et dans tout le voisinage, dans la plaine, sur la montagne, dans la vallée, dans le midi, sur la côte de la mer, au pays des Cananéens et au Liban, jusqu’au grand fleuve, au fleuve d’Euphrate.
8 Voyez, j’ai mis le pays devant vous; allez, et prenez possession du pays que l’Éternel a juré à vos pères, Abraham, Isaac et Jacob, de donner à eux et à leur postérité après eux.
9 Dans ce temps-là, je vous dis: Je ne puis pas, à moi seul, vous porter.
10 L’Éternel, votre Dieu, vous a multipliés, et vous êtes aujourd’hui aussi nombreux que les étoiles du ciel.
11 Que l’Éternel, le Dieu de vos pères, vous augmente mille fois autant, et qu’il vous bénisse comme il vous l’a promis!
12 Comment porterais-je, à moi seul, votre charge, votre fardeau et vos contestations?
13 Prenez dans vos tribus des hommes sages, intelligents et connus, et je les mettrai à votre tête.
14 Vous me répondîtes, en disant: Ce que tu proposes de faire est une bonne chose.
15 Je pris alors les chefs de vos tribus, des hommes sages et connus, et je les mis à votre tête comme chefs de mille, chefs de cent, chefs de cinquante, et chefs de dix, et comme ayant autorité dans vos tribus.
16 Je donnai, dans le même temps, cet ordre à vos juges: Écoutez vos frères, et jugez selon la justice les différends de chacun avec son frère ou avec l’étranger.
17 Vous n’aurez point égard à l’apparence des personnes dans vos jugements; vous écouterez le petit comme le grand; vous ne craindrez aucun homme, car c’est Dieu qui rend la justice. Et lorsque vous trouverez une cause trop difficile, vous la porterez devant moi, pour que je l’entende.
18 C’est ainsi que je vous prescrivis, dans ce temps-là, tout ce que vous aviez à faire.
19 Nous partîmes d’Horeb, et nous parcourûmes en entier ce grand et affreux désert que vous avez vu; nous prîmes le chemin de la montagne des Amoréens, comme l’Éternel, notre Dieu, nous l’avait ordonné, et nous arrivâmes à Kadès Barnéa.
20 Je vous dis: Vous êtes arrivés à la montagne des Amoréens, que l’Éternel, notre Dieu, nous donne.
21 Vois, l’Éternel, ton Dieu, met le pays devant toi; monte, prends-en possession, comme te l’a dit l’Éternel, le Dieu de tes pères; ne crains point, et ne t’effraie point.
22 Vous vous approchâtes tous de moi, et vous dîtes: Envoyons des hommes devant nous, pour explorer le pays, et pour nous faire un rapport sur le chemin par lequel nous y monterons et sur les villes où nous arriverons.
23 Cet avis me parut bon; et je pris douze hommes parmi vous, un homme par tribu.
24 Ils partirent, traversèrent la montagne, et arrivèrent jusqu’à la vallée d’Eschcol, qu’ils explorèrent.
25 Ils prirent dans leurs mains des fruits du pays, et nous les présentèrent; ils nous firent un rapport, et dirent: C’est un bon pays, que l’Éternel, notre Dieu, nous donne.
26 Mais vous ne voulûtes point y monter, et vous fûtes rebelles à l’ordre de l’Éternel, votre Dieu.
27 Vous murmurâtes dans vos tentes, et vous dîtes: C’est parce que l’Éternel nous hait, qu’il nous a fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, afin de nous livrer entre les mains des Amoréens et de nous détruire.
28 Où monterions-nous? Nos frères nous ont fait perdre courage, en disant: C’est un peuple plus grand et de plus haute taille que nous; ce sont des villes grandes et fortifiées jusqu’au ciel; nous y avons même vu des enfants d’Anak.
29 Je vous dis: Ne vous épouvantez pas, et n’ayez pas peur d’eux.
30 L’Éternel, votre Dieu, qui marche devant vous, combattra lui-même pour vous, selon tout ce qu’il a fait pour vous sous vos yeux en Égypte,
31 puis au désert, où tu as vu que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’a porté comme un homme porte son fils, pendant toute la route que vous avez faite jusqu’à votre arrivée en ce lieu.
32 Malgré cela, vous n’eûtes point confiance en l’Éternel, votre Dieu,
33 qui allait devant vous sur la route pour vous chercher un lieu de campement, la nuit dans un feu afin de vous montrer le chemin où vous deviez marcher, et le jour dans une nuée.
34 L’Éternel entendit le bruit de vos paroles. Il s’irrita, et jura, en disant:
35 Aucun des hommes de cette génération méchante ne verra le bon pays que j’ai juré de donner à vos pères,
36 excepté Caleb, fils de Jephunné; il le verra, lui, et je donnerai à lui et à ses enfants le pays sur lequel il a marché, parce qu’il a pleinement suivi la voie de l’Éternel.
37 L’Éternel s’irrita aussi contre moi, à cause de vous, et il dit: Toi non plus, tu n’y entreras point.
38 Josué, fils de Nun, ton serviteur, y entrera; fortifie-le, car c’est lui qui mettra Israël en possession de ce pays.
39 Et vos petits enfants, dont vous avez dit: Ils deviendront une proie! et vos fils, qui ne connaissent aujourd’hui ni le bien ni le mal, ce sont eux qui y entreront, c’est à eux que je le donnerai, et ce sont eux qui le posséderont.
40 Mais vous, tournez-vous, et partez pour le désert, dans la direction de la mer Rouge.
41 Vous répondîtes, en me disant: Nous avons péché contre l’Éternel; nous monterons et nous combattrons, comme l’Éternel, notre Dieu, nous l’a ordonné. Et vous ceignîtes chacun vos armes, et vous fîtes le projet téméraire de monter à la montagne.
42 L’Éternel me dit: Dis-leur: Ne montez pas et ne combattez pas, car je ne suis pas au milieu de vous; ne vous faites pas battre par vos ennemis.
43 Je vous parlai, mais vous n’écoutâtes point; vous fûtes rebelles à l’ordre de l’Éternel, et vous montâtes audacieusement à la montagne.
44 Alors les Amoréens, qui habitent cette montagne, sortirent à votre rencontre, et vous poursuivirent comme font les abeilles; ils vous battirent en Séir, jusqu’à Horma.
45 A votre retour, vous pleurâtes devant l’Éternel; mais l’Éternel n’écouta point votre voix, et ne vous prêta point l’oreille.
46 Vous restâtes à Kadès, où le temps que vous y avez passé fut de longue durée.

1 These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.
2 (There are eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadeshbarnea.)
3 And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the Lord had given him in commandment unto them;
4 After he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, which dwelt at Astaroth in Edrei:
5 On this side Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,
6 The Lord our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:
7 Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.
8 Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.
9 And I spake unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:
10 The Lord your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.
11 (The Lord God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as he hath promised you!)
12 How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?
13 Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.
14 And ye answered me, and said, The thing which thou hast spoken is good for us to do.
15 So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.
16 And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.
17 Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.
18 And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.
19 And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as the Lord our God commanded us; and we came to Kadeshbarnea.
20 And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the Lord our God doth give unto us.
21 Behold, the Lord thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged.
22 And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.
23 And the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe:
24 And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came unto the valley of Eshcol, and searched it out.
25 And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land which the Lord our God doth give us.
26 Notwithstanding ye would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God:
27 And ye murmured in your tents, and said, Because the Lord hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.
28 Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.
29 Then I said unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them.
30 The Lord your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;
31 And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the Lord thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place.
32 Yet in this thing ye did not believe the Lord your God,
33 Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to shew you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by day.
34 And the Lord heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and sware, saying,
35 Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers.
36 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed the Lord.
37 Also the Lord was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither.
38 But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.
39 Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.
40 But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
41 Then ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the Lord, we will go up and fight, according to all that the Lord our God commanded us. And when ye had girded on every man his weapons of war, ye were ready to go up into the hill.
42 And the Lord said unto me, Say unto them. Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.
43 So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the Lord, and went presumptuously up into the hill.
44 And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah.
45 And ye returned and wept before the Lord; but the Lord would not hearken to your voice, nor give ear unto you.
46 So ye abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that ye abode there.
