1 Jakòb menm ale chemen chemen l’. Li kontre kèk zanj Bondye sou wout li.
2 Lè li wè yo, li di: -Sa se lame Bondye a. Se konsa li rele kote a Manayim.
3  Jakòb voye kèk komisyonè devan al jwenn Ezaou, frè li a, nan peyi Seyi, kote Edon te rete a.
4 Men sa li ba yo lòd pou yo di: -Men sa n’a di Ezaou, mèt mwen: Jakòb, nèg pa ou la, voye di ou konsa, li te pase tout tan sa a lakay Laban. Se poutèt sa li te pran tout reta sa a pou l’ tounen.
5 Li gen bèf, bourik, mouton, kabrit, domestik ak sèvant. Li voye di ou sa pou ou ka fè pa l’.
6 Lè mesaje yo tounen vin jwenn Jakòb, yo di l’: -Nou t ale kote Ezaou, frè ou la. Koulye a li gen tan sou wout pou l’ vin kontre ou. Li gen katsan (400) moun ak li.
7 Jakòb te pè anpil. Li te boulvèse. Li pran moun ki te avè l’ yo, li fè yo fè de pòsyon. Li fè menm bagay la ak mouton, bèf, chamo li te genyen yo.
8 Li t’ap di nan kè l’: -Si Ezaou vin atake yon pòsyon, lòt pòsyon an va gen tan chape.
9  Jakòb lapriyè, li di: -O Bondye Abraram granpapa m’ lan, Bondye Izarak papa m’ lan! O Seyè, ou menm ki te di m’ tounen nan peyi m’ kote m’ te fèt la! W’a fè tout bagay mache byen pou mwen.
10 Mwen menm k’ap sèvi ou la, mwen pa wè poukisa ou fè m’ tout favè sa yo, poukisa ou toujou kenbe pawòl ou avè m’. Lè m’ t’ap travèse larivyè Jouden, se annik yon baton mwen te gen nan men m’. Koulye a m’ap tounen, mwen tèlman genyen, mwen ka separe yo fè de pòsyon.
11 Tanpri, delivre m’ non anba men Ezaou, frè mwen an! Mwen pè pou l’ pa vin atake nou, pou l’ pa touye ata fanm yo ak timoun yo.
12 Chonje sa ou te di m’ lan: M’ap fè tout bagay mache byen pou ou. M’ap si tèlman ba ou pitit pitit, moun p’ap ka konte yo. Y’ap tankou grenn sab bò lanmè.
13  Jakòb rete pase nwit la kote l’ te ye a. Apre sa, nan sa l’ te gen avè l’ yo, li chwazi ladan yo pou fè Ezaou, frè l’ la, kado.
14 Li pran desan (200) fenmèl kabrit ak vin bouk, desan fenmèl mouton ak vin belye,
15 trant fenmèl chamo nouris ak tout ti chamo yo dèyè yo, karant manman bèf, dis towo, vin fenmèl bourik ak dis mal bourik.
16 Li pran bèt yo, li mete chak kalite apa, li renmèt chak kalite bay yonn nan domestik li yo. Li di yo konsa: -Pran devan mwen. Chak moun ap kite yon distans nan mitan bèt pa l’ yo ak bèt ki devan l’ yo.
17 Epi li pase premye a lòd sa a: -Lè Ezaou, frè m’ lan, va kontre ou, l’ap mande ou: Kilès ki mèt ou? Kote ou prale? Pou ki moun bèt sa yo w’ap pouse devan ou konsa a?
18 W’a reponn li: Se pou Jakòb, nèg pa ou la. Se yon kado li voye bay Ezaou, mèt mwen an. Li menm, li dèyè, l’ap vini.
19 Li pase dezyèm lan, twazyèm lan ak tout lòt moun ki t’ap mache dèyè bèt yo menm lòd la. -Men sa nou gen pou n’ di Ezaou, lè nou kontre l’.
20 Se pou nou di: Wi, Jakòb, nèg pa ou la, ap vin dèyè nou pye pou pye. Jakòb t’ap di nan kè l’. Avèk tout kado m’ap voye devan m’ lan, m’ap fè kè l’ kontan. Konsa, lè n’a kontre, ou pa janm konnen, li ka fè pa m’.
21 Moun yo pran devan ak kado yo. Men Jakòb rete dèyè, li pase nwit la kote l’ te ye a.
22 Menm jou lannwit sa a, Jakòb leve, li pran de madanm li yo, de sèvant li yo ak onz pitit gason li yo, li janbe lòt bò larivyè Jabòk, nan pas la.
23 Apre li fin fè yo janbe larivyè a, li fè janbe tout sa li te genyen tou.
24  Men li menm, li te rete pou kont li dèyè. Lè sa a, gen yon moun ki mare batay ak li, yo goumen jouk devanjou.
25 Lè nonm lan wè li pa t’ ka bat li, li bay Jakòb yon kou nan ren l’. Se konsa zo ren l’ dejwente pandan yo t’ap goumen an.
26 Nonm lan di l’: -Kite m’ ale, paske bajou pral kase. Jakòb reponn li: -Si ou pa beni mwen, mwen p’ap kite ou ale.
27 Nonm lan di: -Ki jan ou rele? Li reponn: -Jakòb.
28 Nonm lan di l’: -Yo p’ap rele ou Jakòb ankò. Y’ap rele ou Izrayèl, paske ou goumen ak Bondye, ou goumen ak moun, se ou menm ki genyen batay la.
29 Jakòb mande l’: -Tanpri, di m’ ki jan ou rele? Li reponn: -Poukisa w’ap mande m’ ki jan mwen rele? Apre sa li beni Jakòb.
30 Jakòb di konsa: -Mwen wè Bondye, mwen pa mouri. Se konsa, li rele kote l’ te ye a Penyèl.
31 Solèy te gen tan ap leve lè Jakòb kite Penyèl, li t’ap bwete poutèt ren li.
32 Se poutèt sa, jouk jòdi a, pitit pitit Izrayèl yo pa manje venn ki kenbe zo ren an, paske se sou venn sa a Bondye te frape Jakòb.

Genèse 32

1 Jacob poursuivit son chemin; et des anges de Dieu le rencontrèrent.
2 En les voyant, Jacob dit: C’est le camp de Dieu! Et il donna à ce lieu le nom de Mahanaïm.
3 Jacob envoya devant lui des messagers à Ésaü, son frère, au pays de Séir, dans le territoire d’Édom.
4 Il leur donna cet ordre: Voici ce que vous direz à mon seigneur Ésaü: Ainsi parle ton serviteur Jacob: J’ai séjourné chez Laban, et j’y suis resté jusqu’à présent;
5 j’ai des boeufs, des ânes, des brebis, des serviteurs et des servantes, et j’envoie l’annoncer à mon seigneur, pour trouver grâce à tes yeux.
6 Les messagers revinrent auprès de Jacob, en disant: Nous sommes allés vers ton frère Ésaü; et il marche à ta rencontre, avec quatre cents hommes.
7 Jacob fut très effrayé, et saisi d’angoisse. Il partagea en deux camps les gens qui étaient avec lui, les brebis, les boeufs et les chameaux;
8 et il dit: Si Ésaü vient contre l’un des camps et le bat, le camp qui restera pourra se sauver.
9 Jacob dit: Dieu de mon père Abraham, Dieu de mon père Isaac, Éternel, qui m’as dit: Retourne dans ton pays et dans ton lieu de naissance, et je te ferai du bien!
10 Je suis trop petit pour toutes les grâces et pour toute la fidélité dont tu as usé envers ton serviteur; car j’ai passé ce Jourdain avec mon bâton, et maintenant je forme deux camps.
11 Délivre-moi, je te prie, de la main de mon frère, de la main d’Ésaü! car je crains qu’il ne vienne, et qu’il ne me frappe, avec la mère et les enfants.
12 Et toi, tu as dit: Je te ferai du bien, et je rendrai ta postérité comme le sable de la mer, si abondant qu’on ne saurait le compter.
13 C’est dans ce lieu-là que Jacob passa la nuit. Il prit de ce qu’il avait sous la main, pour faire un présent à Ésaü, son frère:
14 deux cents chèvres et vingt boucs, deux cents brebis et vingt béliers,
15 trente femelles de chameaux avec leurs petits qu’elles allaitaient, quarante vaches et dix taureaux, vingt ânesses et dix ânes.
16 Il les remit à ses serviteurs, troupeau par troupeau séparément, et il dit à ses serviteurs: Passez devant moi, et mettez un intervalle entre chaque troupeau.
17 Il donna cet ordre au premier: Quand Ésaü, mon frère, te rencontrera, et te demandera: A qui es-tu? où vas-tu? et à qui appartient ce troupeau devant toi?
18 tu répondras: A ton serviteur Jacob; c’est un présent envoyé à mon seigneur Ésaü; et voici, il vient lui-même derrière nous.
19 Il donna le même ordre au second, au troisième, et à tous ceux qui suivaient les troupeaux: C’est ainsi que vous parlerez à mon seigneur Ésaü, quand vous le rencontrerez.
20 Vous direz: Voici, ton serviteur Jacob vient aussi derrière nous. Car il se disait: Je l’apaiserai par ce présent qui va devant moi; ensuite je le verrai en face, et peut-être m’accueillera-t-il favorablement.
21 Le présent passa devant lui; et il resta cette nuit-là dans le camp.
22 Il se leva la même nuit, prit ses deux femmes, ses deux servantes, et ses onze enfants, et passa le gué de Jabbok.
23 Il les prit, leur fit passer le torrent, et le fit passer à tout ce qui lui appartenait.
24 Jacob demeura seul. Alors un homme lutta avec lui jusqu’au lever de l’aurore.
25 Voyant qu’il ne pouvait le vaincre, cet homme le frappa à l’emboîture de la hanche; et l’emboîture de la hanche de Jacob se démit pendant qu’il luttait avec lui.
26 Il dit: Laisse-moi aller, car l’aurore se lève. Et Jacob répondit: Je ne te laisserai point aller, que tu ne m’aies béni.
27 Il lui dit: Quel est ton nom? Et il répondit: Jacob.
28 Il dit encore: ton nom ne sera plus Jacob, mais tu seras appelé Israël; car tu as lutté avec Dieu et avec des hommes, et tu as été vainqueur.
29 Jacob l’interrogea, en disant: Fais-moi je te prie, connaître ton nom. Il répondit: Pourquoi demandes-tu mon nom? Et il le bénit là.
30 Jacob appela ce lieu du nom de Peniel: car, dit-il, j’ai vu Dieu face à face, et mon âme a été sauvée.
31 Le soleil se levait, lorsqu’il passa Peniel. Jacob boitait de la hanche.
32 C’est pourquoi jusqu’à ce jour, les enfants d’Israël ne mangent point le tendon qui est à l’emboîture de la hanche; car Dieu frappa Jacob à l’emboîture de la hanche, au tendon.

Genesis 32

1 And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.
2 And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is God’s host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim.
3 And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom.
4 And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:
5 And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.
6 And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.
7 Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands;
8 And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape.
9 And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the Lord which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:
10 I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.
11 Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children.
12 And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
13 And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother;
14 Two hundred she goats, and twenty he goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams,
15 Thirty milch camels with their colts, forty kine, and ten bulls, twenty she asses, and ten foals.
16 And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by themselves; and said unto his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space betwixt drove and drove.
17 And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee?
18 Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob’s; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us.
19 And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him.
20 And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me.
21 So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company.
22 And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.
23 And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had.
24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
32 Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew that shrank.
