Jeremi 38
1 Chefatya, pitit Matan, Gedalya, pitit Pachou, Jeoukal, pitit Chelemya, ak Pachou, pitit Malkya, te vin konnen Jeremi t’ap pale ak pèp la. Li t’ap di yo konsa:
2 -Men mesaj Seyè a bay: tout moun ki va rete nan lavil la pral mouri. Sa ki pa mouri nan lagè pral mouri grangou, osinon move maladi ap pote yo ale. Men, tout moun ki va soti al rann tèt yo bay moun Babilòn yo p’ap mouri. Y’a sove lavi yo.
3 Wi, men sa Seyè a di: Mwen pral lage lavil la nan men lame moun Babilòn yo. Y’ap pran lavil la pou yo.
4 Chèf yo al di wa a: -Se pou yo touye nonm sa a. Paske lè l’ap pale konsa, li fè sòlda yo ansanm ak tout lòt moun ki rete nan lavil la pèdi kouraj. Nonm sa a pa soti pou l’ ede pèp la. Se mal ase li vle pou li.
5 Wa Sedesyas reponn: -Bon! Fè sa nou vle avè l’. Mwen pa ka di nou anyen.
6 Se konsa, te gen yon gwo pi nan lakou palè a ki te pou Malkija, pitit gason wa a. Yo pran Jeremi, yo desann li nan fon sitèn lan avèk kòd. Pa t’ gen dlo ladan l’, men te gen anpil labou. Jeremi antre nan labou a.
7 Lè sa a, te gen yon moun peyi Letiopi ki te rele Ebèdmelèk. Se te yon nèg konfyans ki t’ap travay lakay wa a. Li vin konnen yo te mete Jeremi nan sitèn lan. Jou sa a, wa a te chita ap rann jijman bò Pòtay Benjamen an.
8 Ebèdmelèk soti nan palè a, li ale bò pòtay la, li di wa a konsa:
9 -Monwa, mèt mwen, sa mesye yo fè pwofèt Jeremi an pa bon non. Yo desann li nan fon sitèn lan kote, wè pa wè, l’ap mouri grangou, paske pa gen pen lavil la ankò.
10 Lè sa a, wa a bay Ebèdmelèk lòd pou li pran trant lòt moun avè l’ pou li wete Jeremi nan sitèn lan anvan l’ mouri.
11 Se konsa Ebelmelèk pran moun yo avè l’, li antre nan palè a, li ale yon kote ki anba pyès depo richès wa a, li pran yon bann moso twal chire ak vye rad, li mare yo nan kòd, li file yo desann bay Jeremi nan sitèn lan.
12 Epi li di Jeremi konsa: -Mete moso twal yo ak vye rad yo anba zesèl ou pou kòd yo pa kòche ou. Jeremi fè sa vre.
13 Epi yo rale l’ moute soti nan sitèn lan avèk kòd yo. Apre sa, Jeremi rete nan lakou gad palè yo.
14 Yon lòt fwa ankò, wa Sedesyas voye chache pwofèt Jeremi, li fè yo mennen l’ ba li bò twazyèm pòt pou antre nan kay Seyè a. Wa a di l’ konsa: -Mwen gen yon bagay m’ bezwen mande ou. Reponn mwen kare, pa kache m’ anyen.
15 Jeremi reponn li: -Ala, si mwen pale ou kare, w’ap fè yo touye m’. Si m’ ba ou yon konsèy, ou p’ap koute m’.
16 Wa Sedesyas rele Jeremi sou kote, li fè l’ sèman. Li di l’ konsa: -Mwen pran Bondye vivan an, Bondye ki ban nou lavi a, pou temwen, mwen p’ap fè touye ou, ni mwen p’ap lage ou nan men moun ki vle touye ou yo.
17 Lè sa a, Jeremi di Sedesyas konsa: -Men sa Seyè a, Bondye ki gen tout pouvwa a, Bondye pèp Izrayèl la, di: Si ou al rann tèt ou bay chèf wa Babilòn lan, yo p’ap touye ou. Yo p’ap boule lavil la. Yo p’ap touye ni ou menm, ni fanmi ou.
18 Men, si ou pa al rann tèt ou bay chèf yo, lavil la pral tonbe nan men moun Babilòn yo, y’ap boule l’. Lèfini, ou p’ap ka chape anba men yo.
19 Wa Sedesyas reponn: -Ou konnen sa m’ pè? Se moun peyi Jida yo ki deja al rann tèt yo bay moun Babilòn yo. Mwen pè pou moun Babilòn yo pa lage m’ nan men yo pou yo maltrete m’.
20 Jeremi di l’ konsa: -Moun Babilòn yo p’ap fè ou sa. Koute mesaj Seyè a ba ou nan sa mwen di ou la a, pou tout bagay pase byen pou ou. Konsa ou p’ap mouri.
21 Si ou derefize al rann tèt ou, men sa ki pral rive ou, dapre sa Seyè a fè m’ wè:
22 Yo pral pran tout fanm ki rete nan palè wa Jida a, y’ap mennen yo bay chèf wa Babilòn lan. Medam yo pral di: Moun ki te pi bon zanmi wa a pran tèt li, yo fè l’ fè sa yo vle. Koulye a, bra msye pran n’a pèlen. Yo kouri kite l’ pou kont li.
23 Yo pral pran tout madanm ou yo, tout pitit ou yo, y’ap mennen yo bay moun Babilòn yo. Ou menm, ou p’ap chape anba men yo. Wa Babilòn lan ap fè ou prizonye, lèfini l’ap fè mete dife nan lavil sa a.
24 Sedesyas di Jeremi konsa: -Pa kite pesonn konnen tout pawòl sa yo. Konsa ou p’ap mouri.
25 Si chèf yo rive konnen mwen te pale avè ou, y’ap vin jwenn ou, y’ap mande ou sa ou te di m’ ak sa m’ te reponn ou. Y’ap pwomèt yo p’ap touye ou si ou pa kache yo anyen.
26 Lè sa a, w’a reponn yo: Se mande mwen t’ap mande wa a, tanpri souple, pou l’ pa voye m’ tounen nan prizon lakay Jonatan pou m’ pa mouri la.
27 Tout chèf yo vini jwenn Jeremi vre. Yo mande l’ yon bann pawòl. Jeremi reponn yo jan wa a te di l’ la. Pa t’ gen anyen chèf yo te ka fè paske pesonn pa t’ tande koze Jeremi te gen ak wa a.
28 Jeremi rete nan lakou gad palè yo jouk jou yo pran lavil Jerizalèm.

Jérémie 38
1 Schephathia, fils de Matthan, Guedalia, fils de Paschhur, Jucal, fils de Schélémia, et Paschhur, fils de Malkija, entendirent les paroles que Jérémie adressait à tout le peuple, en disant:
2 Ainsi parle l’Éternel: Celui qui restera dans cette ville mourra par l’épée, par la famine ou par la peste; mais celui qui sortira pour se rendre aux Chaldéens, aura la vie sauve, sa vie sera son butin, et il vivra.
3 Ainsi parle l’Éternel: Cette ville sera livrée à l’armée du roi de Babylone, qui la prendra.
4 Et les chefs dirent au roi: Que cet homme soit mis à mort! car il décourage les hommes de guerre qui restent dans cette ville, et tout le peuple, en leur tenant de pareils discours; cet homme ne cherche pas le bien de ce peuple, il ne veut que son malheur.
5 Le roi Sédécias répondit: Voici, il est entre vos mains; car le roi ne peut rien contre vous.
6 Alors ils prirent Jérémie, et le jetèrent dans la citerne de Malkija, fils du roi, laquelle se trouvait dans la cour de la prison; ils descendirent Jérémie avec des cordes. Il n’y avait point d’eau dans la citerne, mais il y avait de la boue; et Jérémie enfonça dans la boue.
7 Ébed Mélec, l’Éthiopien, eunuque qui était dans la maison du roi, apprit qu’on avait mis Jérémie dans la citerne. Le roi était assis à la porte de Benjamin.
8 Ébed Mélec sortit de la maison du roi, et parla ainsi au roi:
9 O roi, mon seigneur, ces hommes ont mal agi en traitant de la sorte Jérémie, le prophète, en le jetant dans la citerne; il mourra de faim là où il est, car il n’y a plus de pain dans la ville.
10 Le roi donna cet ordre à Ébed Mélec, l’Éthiopien: Prends ici trente hommes avec toi, et tu retireras de la citerne Jérémie, le prophète, avant qu’il ne meure.
11 Ébed Mélec prit avec lui les hommes, et se rendit à la maison du roi, dans un lieu au-dessous du trésor; il en sortit des lambeaux usés et de vieux haillons, et les descendit à Jérémie dans la citerne, avec des cordes.
12 Ébed Mélec, l’Éthiopien, dit à Jérémie: Mets ces lambeaux usés et ces haillons sous tes aisselles, sous les cordes. Et Jérémie fit ainsi.
13 Ils tirèrent Jérémie avec les cordes, et le firent monter hors de la citerne. Jérémie resta dans la cour de la prison.
14 Le roi Sédécias envoya chercher Jérémie, le prophète, et le fit venir auprès de lui dans la troisième entrée de la maison de l’Éternel. Et le roi dit à Jérémie: J’ai une chose à te demander; ne me cache rien.
15 Jérémie répondit à Sédécias: Si je te la dis, ne me feras-tu pas mourir? Et si je te donne un conseil, tu ne m’écouteras pas.
16 Le roi Sédécias jura secrètement à Jérémie, en disant: L’Éternel est vivant, lui qui nous a donné la vie! je ne te ferai pas mourir, et je ne te livrerai pas entre les mains de ces hommes qui en veulent à ta vie.
17 Jérémie dit alors à Sédécias: Ainsi parle l’Éternel, le Dieu des armées, le Dieu d’Israël: Si tu vas te rendre aux chefs du roi de Babylone, tu auras la vie sauve, et cette ville ne sera pas brûlée par le feu; tu vivras, toi et ta maison.
18 Mais si tu ne te rends pas aux chefs du roi de Babylone, cette ville sera livrée entre les mains des Chaldéens, qui la brûleront par le feu; et toi, tu n’échapperas pas à leurs mains.
19 Le roi Sédécias dit à Jérémie: Je crains les Juifs qui ont passé aux Chaldéens; je crains qu’on ne me livre entre leurs mains, et qu’ils ne m’outragent.
20 Jérémie répondit: On ne te livrera pas. Écoute la voix de l’Éternel dans ce que je te dis; tu t’en trouveras bien, et tu auras la vie sauve.
21 Mais si tu refuses de sortir, voici ce que l’Éternel m’a révélé:
22 Toutes les femmes qui restent dans la maison du roi de Juda seront menées aux chefs du roi de Babylone, et elles diront: Tu as été trompé, dominé, par ceux qui t’annonçaient la paix; et quand tes pieds sont enfoncés dans la boue, ils se retirent.
23 Toutes tes femmes et tes enfants seront menés aux Chaldéens; et toi, tu n’échapperas pas à leurs mains, tu seras saisi par la main du roi de Babylone, et cette ville sera brûlée par le feu.
24 Sédécias dit à Jérémie: Que personne ne sache rien de ces discours, et tu ne mourras pas.
25 Si les chefs apprennent que je t’ai parlé, et s’ils viennent te dire: Rapporte-nous ce que tu as dit au roi, et ce que le roi t’a dit, ne nous cache rien, et nous ne te ferons pas mourir, –
26 tu leur répondras: J’ai supplié le roi de ne pas me renvoyer dans la maison de Jonathan, de peur que je n’y meure.
27 Tous les chefs vinrent auprès de Jérémie et le questionnèrent. Il leur répondit entièrement comme le roi l’avait ordonné. Ils gardèrent alors le silence et se retirèrent, car la chose ne s’était pas répandue.
28 Jérémie resta dans la cour de la prison jusqu’au jour de la prise de Jérusalem.

1 Then Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,
2 Thus saith the Lord, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.
3 Thus saith the Lord, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, which shall take it.
4 Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.
5 Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand: for the king is not he that can do any thing against you.
6 Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.
7 Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs which was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon; the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin;
8 Ebedmelech went forth out of the king’s house, and spake to the king saying,
9 My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the city.
10 Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from hence thirty men with thee, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he die.
11 So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old cast clouts and old rotten rags, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.
12 And Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, Put now these old cast clouts and rotten rags under thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so.
13 So they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
14 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that is in the house of the Lord: and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide nothing from me.
15 Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me?
16 So Zedekiah the king sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the Lord liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
17 Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon’s princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house:
18 But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.
19 And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.
20 But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Obey, I beseech thee, the voice of the Lord, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live.
21 But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the Lord hath shewed me:
22 And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah’s house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women shall say, Thy friends have set thee on, and have prevailed against thee: thy feet are sunk in the mire, and they are turned away back.
23 So they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans: and thou shalt not escape out of their hand, but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.
24 Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die.
25 But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:
26 Then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan’s house, to die there.
27 Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.
28 So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was there when Jerusalem was taken.
