Ezekyel 18    

1 Seyè a pale avè m’ ankò, li di m’ konsa:
2 -Poukisa y’ap plede repete pwovèb sa a nan peyi Izrayèl la? Y’ap di: Papa ak manman manje rezen vèt, men se dan pitit yo ki gasi.
3 Se poutèt sa, jan nou konnen mwen vivan vre a, se mwen menm Seyè a, Bondye sèl Mèt la, ki di sa: Nou p’ap janm repete pwovèb sa a ankò nan peyi Izrayèl la.
4 Lavi tout moun, papa, manman kou pitit, se pou mwen yo ye. Moun ki fè peche a, se li menm k’ap mouri.
5 Ann pran ka yon moun k’ap mache dwat devan Bondye, ki fè sa li dwe fè, ki pa nan patipri.
6 Li pa moute nan mòn pou l’ al bay zidòl manje, ni li pa fè sèvis pou vye zidòl moun pèp Izrayèl yo ap sèvi. Li pa al dèyè madanm lòt moun pèp Izrayèl parèy li, li pa kouche ak fanm ki gen lalin li.
7 Li pa pwofite sou pesonn, li pa bay pesonn koutba, li renmèt garanti moun te ba li pou lajan li prete yo. Li bay moun ki grangou yo manje, li bay moun ki toutouni yo rad pou mete sou yo.
8 Li pa bay ponya, li pa pran enterè sou lajan li prete. Li refize mete men l’ nan sa ki mal. Lè de moun gen kont, li mete verite a kote li ye.
9 Yon moun konsa mache sou lòd mwen bay, li fè tou sa mwen mande pou moun fè. Li pa janm chache twonpe m’. Se yon moun ki dwat. Se sèten l’ap viv. Se mwen menm, Seyè sèl Mèt la, ki di sa.
10  Si nonm sa a ta rive fè yon pitit ki soti yon lwijanboje, ki renmen mete san moun deyò, epi k’ap mache fè tou sa
11 papa l’ pa janm fè: l’ap manje nan manje yo ofri bay zidòl sou tèt mòn yo, l’ap kouri dèyè madanm lòt moun pèp Izrayèl parèy li,
12 l’ap toupizi pòv malere yo ak moun ki nan malsite, l’ap vòlò, li p’ap renmèt garanti moun te ba li pou lajan li te prete yo, l’ap fè sèvis pou zidòl, l’ap fè vye bagay derespektan,
13 l’ap bay ponya, li pran enterè pou lajan li prete, yon nonm konsa pa fèt pou viv. Non, li pa gen dwa viv lè li fin fè tout vye bagay derespektan sa yo. Se sèten l’ap mouri. Se li menm k’ap pote chay tou sa li fè.
14 Annou konsidere koulye a ka dezyèm moun sa a ki ta rive fè yon pitit gason. Pitit la wè tout peche papa l’ te fè yo. Li wè yo, men li pa fè tankou l’.
15 Li pa al sou tèt mòn yo ofri manje bay zidòl, li derefize fè sèvis pou vye zidòl moun peyi Izrayèl yo. Li respekte madanm lòt moun pèp Izrayèl parèy li,
16 li pa pwofite sou pesonn, li pa kenbe garanti moun te ba li pou lajan li te prete yo. Li pa vòlò pesonn, li bay moun ki grangou manje, li bay moun ki toutouni rad pou yo mete sou yo.
17 Li refize fè moun mechanste, li pa bay ponya, li pa pran enterè sou lajan li prete moun. Yon moun konsa mache sou lòd mwen bay, li fè tou sa mwen mande pou moun fè. Li p’ap mouri poutèt peche papa l’ te fè yo. Sèten l’ap viv.
18 Papa l’ pou bò pa l’ te fè mechanste, li vòlò frè parèy li, li pa janm fè byen pou pesonn. Se li menm k’ap mouri poutèt tou sa li fè ki mal.
19 N’a mande nan kè nou: Poukisa yon pitit pa peye pou peche papa li te fè a? Men repons la. Se paske pitit la te mache dwat devan Bondye, li fè sa li te dwe fè. Li mache sou lòd mwen bay, li fè tou sa mwen mande pou moun fè, kifè l’ap viv.
20 Moun ki fè peche, se yo k’ap mouri. Yon pitit p’ap peye pou peche papa l’ te fè, ni yon papa p’ap peye pou peche pitit li fè. Moun ki mache dwat va jwenn rekonpans pou dwat yo te mache dwat la. Mechan an va peye pou mechanste li fè a.
21  Si mechan an sispann fè peche li te konn fè yo pou li mache dapre lòd mwen yo, si li fè sa ki dwat ak sa ki byen, li p’ap mouri. Sèten l’ap viv.
22 Yo p’ap chonje tout peche li te konn fè yo. L’ap viv paske li te fè sa ki dwat.
23 Eske nou kwè mwen ta renmen wè mechan an mouri? Se Seyè sèl Mèt la ki mande sa. Non! Mwen ta pito wè l’ sispann fè sa ki mal pou l’ ka viv.
24 Men, si yon moun ki mache dwat sispann fè sa ki byen pou li lage kò l’ nan fè sa ki mal ak tout lòt vye bagay derespektan mechan yo ap fè a, nan kondisyon sa a èske li ka viv toujou? Non. Yo p’ap chonje tout byen li te konn fè yo. L’ap mouri paske li pa t’ kenbe pawòl li, paske li fè sa ki mal.
25 Men, n’a di n’a kè nou: Jan Seyè a ap aji la a pa bon non. Enben, nou menm moun pèp Izrayèl yo, koute. Nou di jan m’ aji a pa bon. Nou pa kwè se jan nou menm n’ap aji a ki pa bon pito?
26 Lè yon moun ki t’ap mache dwat sispann fè sa ki byen pou li lage kò l’ nan fè sa ki mal, l’ap mouri. Se poutèt sa li fè ki mal la l’ap mouri.
27 Lè mechan an sispann fè peche li konn fè yo pou li fè sa ki dwat ak sa ki byen, l’ap sove lavi l’.
28 Li rekonèt sa li t’ap fè a te mal, li sispann fè l’. Sèten li p’ap mouri. Se viv pou li viv.
29 Men, moun peyi Izrayèl yo ap plede di: Jan Seyè a ap aji a pa bon. Nou kwè se jan m’ap aji a ki pa bon vre? Eske se pa jan nou menm n’ap aji a ki pa bon pito?
30  Se poutèt sa, men sa Seyè sèl Mèt la ap di moun peyi Izrayèl yo: M’ap jije chak moun dapre sa yo fè. Tounen vin jwenn mwen, sispann fè sa ki mal, pa kite peche nou yo lakòz nou mouri.
31 Vire do bay tout vye peche nou te konn fè yo. Chanje kè nou, chanje lide nou. Poukisa atò, nou menm moun pèp Izrayèl yo, pou n’ap chache lanmò konsa?
32 Mwen pa ta renmen wè pesonn mouri. Se mwen menm, Seyè sèl Mèt la, ki di sa. Tounen vin jwenn mwen epi n’a viv.

1 La parole de l’Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:
2 Pourquoi dites-vous ce proverbe dans le pays d’Israël: Les pères ont mangé des raisins verts, et les dents des enfants en ont été agacées?
3 Je suis vivant! dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel, vous n’aurez plus lieu de dire ce proverbe en Israël.
4 Voici, toutes les âmes sont à moi; l’âme du fils comme l’âme du père, l’une et l’autre sont à moi; l’âme qui pèche, c’est celle qui mourra.
5 L’homme qui est juste, qui pratique la droiture et la justice,
6 qui ne mange pas sur les montagnes et ne lève pas les yeux vers les idoles de la maison d’Israël, qui ne déshonore pas la femme de son prochain et ne s’approche pas d’une femme pendant son impureté,
7 qui n’opprime personne, qui rend au débiteur son gage, qui ne commet point de rapines, qui donne son pain à celui qui a faim et couvre d’un vêtement celui qui est nu,
8 qui ne prête pas à intérêt et ne tire point d’usure, qui détourne sa main de l’iniquité et juge selon la vérité entre un homme et un autre,
9 qui suit mes lois et observe mes ordonnances en agissant avec fidélité, celui-là est juste, il vivra, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel.
10 S’il a un fils qui soit violent, qui répande le sang, ou qui commette quelque chose de semblable;
11 si ce fils n’imite en rien la conduite de son père, s’il mange sur les montagnes, s’il déshonore la femme de son prochain,
12 s’il opprime le malheureux et l’indigent, s’il commet des rapines, s’il ne rend pas le gage, s’il lève les yeux vers les idoles et fait des abominations,
13 S’il prête à intérêt et tire une usure, ce fils-là vivrait! Il ne vivra pas; il a commis toutes ces abominations; qu’il meure! que son sang retombe sur lui!
14 Mais si un homme a un fils qui voie tous les péchés que commet son père, qui les voie et n’agisse pas de la même manière;
15 si ce fils ne mange pas sur les montagnes et ne lève pas les yeux vers les idoles de la maison d’Israël, s’il ne déshonore pas la femme de son prochain,
16 s’il n’opprime personne, s’il ne prend point de gage, s’il ne commet point de rapines, s’il donne son pain à celui qui a faim et couvre d’un vêtement celui qui est nu,
17 s’il détourne sa main de l’iniquité, s’il n’exige ni intérêt ni usure, s’il observe mes ordonnances et suit mes lois, celui-là ne mourra pas pour l’iniquité de son père; il vivra.
18 C’est son père, qui a été un oppresseur, qui a commis des rapines envers les autres, qui a fait au milieu de son peuple ce qui n’est pas bien, c’est lui qui mourra pour son iniquité.
19 Vous dites: Pourquoi le fils ne porte-t-il pas l’iniquité de son père? C’est que le fils a agi selon la droiture et la justice, c’est qu’il a observé et mis en pratique toutes mes lois; il vivra.
20 L’âme qui pèche, c’est celle qui mourra. Le fils ne portera pas l’iniquité de son père, et le père ne portera pas l’iniquité de son fils. La justice du juste sera sur lui, et la méchanceté du méchant sera sur lui.
21 Si le méchant revient de tous les péchés qu’il a commis, s’il observe toutes mes lois et pratique la droiture et la justice, il vivra, il ne mourra pas.
22 Toutes les transgressions qu’il a commises seront oubliées; il vivra, à cause de la justice qu’il a pratiquée.
23 Ce que je désire, est-ce que le méchant meure? dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel. N’est-ce pas qu’il change de conduite et qu’il vive?
24 Si le juste se détourne de sa justice et commet l’iniquité, s’il imite toutes les abominations du méchant, vivra-t-il? Toute sa justice sera oubliée, parce qu’il s’est livré à l’iniquité et au péché; à cause de cela, il mourra.
25 Vous dites: La voie du Seigneur n’est pas droite. Écoutez donc, maison d’Israël! Est-ce ma voie qui n’est pas droite? Ne sont-ce pas plutôt vos voies qui ne sont pas droites?
26 Si le juste se détourne de sa justice et commet l’iniquité, et meurt pour cela, il meurt à cause de l’iniquité qu’il a commise.
27 Si le méchant revient de sa méchanceté et pratique la droiture et la justice, il fera vivre son âme.
28 S’il ouvre les yeux et se détourne de toutes les transgressions qu’il a commises, il vivra, il ne mourra pas.
29 La maison d’Israël dit: La voie du Seigneur n’est pas droite. Est-ce ma voie qui n’est pas droite, maison d’Israël? Ne sont-ce pas plutôt vos voies qui ne sont pas droites?
30 C’est pourquoi je vous jugerai chacun selon ses voies, maison d’Israël, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel. Revenez et détournez-vous de toutes vos transgressions, afin que l’iniquité ne cause pas votre ruine.
31 Rejetez loin de vous toutes les transgressions par lesquelles vous avez péché; faites-vous un coeur nouveau et un esprit nouveau. Pourquoi mourriez-vous, maison d’Israël?
32 Car je ne désire pas la mort de celui qui meurt, dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel. Convertissez-vous donc, et vivez.

1 The word of the Lord came unto me again, saying,
2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?
3 As I live, saith the Lord God, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.
4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
5 But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,
6 And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour’s wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,
7 And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;
8 He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,
9 Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord God.
10 If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,
11 And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour’s wife,
12 Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,
13 Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.
14 Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father’s sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,
15 That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour’s wife,
16 Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,
17 That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.
18 As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.
19 Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.
20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?
30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord God. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.
