Neyemi 9
1 Sou vennkatriyèm jou nan menm mwa a, tout moun pèp Izrayèl yo reyini pou fè jèn pou mande Bondye padon pou peche yo. Tout moun te la, yon rad sak kòlèt sou yo, pousyè tè kouvri tout tèt yo pou fè wè jan yo te nan lapenn.
2 Tout moun pèp Izrayèl yo mete kò yo ansanm. Yo pa kite ankenn moun lòt nasyon mele ak yo. Epi se konsa yo kanpe, yo konmanse di tou sa yo menm yo fè ki mal ansanm ak tout peche zansèt yo te fè.
3 Pandan twazè, yo tout rete kanpe kote yo te ye a, y’ap tande moun ap li nan liv lalwa Seyè a, Bondye yo a. Apre sa, pandan twazè ankò, yo t’ap di tout peche yo te fè, epi yo tonbe ajenou ap adore Seyè a, Bondye a.
4 Yo te moute yon lestrad pou moun Levi yo. Men moun ki te kanpe sou lestrad la: Se te Jozye, Bani, Kadmyèl, Chebanya, Bouni, Cherebya, Bani ak Kenani. Yo t’ap lapriyè byen fò nan pye Bondye.
5 Apre sa, moun Levi sa yo: Jozye, Kadmyèl, Bani, Achabnya, Cherebya, Odija, Chebanya ak Petaja pran lapawòl. Yo di: -Leve non, mezanmi! Fè lwanj Seyè a, Bondye nou an, pou toutan toutan! Se pou nou tout fè lwanj non li ki gen pouvwa, malgre moun p’ap janm ka rive fin di li mèsi ni fè lwanj li jan li merite l’ la.
6 Seyè, se ou menm ki sèl mèt. Pa gen lòt. Se ou ki fè syèl la, sa ki anwo syèl la ansanm ak tout sa ki ladan l’. Se ou ki fè tè a ak tou sa ki sou li, lanmè a ak tou sa ki ladan l’. Se ou ki bay tout bagay sa yo lavi. Tout pouvwa nan syèl la bese tèt devan ou pou adore ou.
7 Seyè, se ou menm Bondye ki te chwazi Abram, ki te fè l’ kite lavil Our nan peyi Kalde. Ou chanje non l’, ou rele l’ Abraram.
8 Lè ou wè li te soti pou l’ kenbe pawòl li ak ou, ou pase yon kontra avè l’. Ou pwomèt w’ap ba li peyi moun Kanaran yo, peyi moun Et yo ak peyi moun Amori yo, peyi moun Ferezi yo, peyi moun Jebis yo ak peyi moun Gigach yo pou li ak pou pitit pitit li yo. Ou te kenbe pwomès ou yo paske ou pa janm nan bay manti.
9 Ou te wè jan zansèt nou yo t’ap soufri nan peyi Lejip. Ou te tande jan yo t’ap rele mande sekou bò lanmè Wouj la.
10 Ou te fè anpil mirak ak mèvèy pou pini farawon an, moun ki t’ap sèvi l’ yo ansanm ak tout pèp peyi Lejip la paske ou te konnen jan moun sa yo t’ap maltrete pèp ou a. Depi lè sa a, y’ap nonmen nou ou jouk jòdi a.
11 Ou louvri yon chemen nan lanmè a pou pèp la pase san pye yo pa mouye. Moun ki t’ap pousib yo, ou neye yo nan fon lanmè. Yo fè fon tankou wòch nan gwo lanmè.
12 Lajounen se avèk yon gwo nwaj ou moutre yo chemen pou yo pran. Lannwit, avèk yon flanm dife, ou klere chemen kote pou yo pase.
13 Ou soti nan syèl la, ou desann sou mòn Sinayi a pou pale ak yo. Ou ba yo regleman ki pou fè yo mache dwat, lwa ki gen verite ladan l’. Ou ba yo bon prensip ak bon kòmandman.
14 Ou moutre yo pou yo mete jou repo a apa pou ou. Ou voye Moyiz, sèvitè ou la, pou li ba yo tout kòmandman, tout lòd ak lalwa ou mande pou yo swiv.
15 Lè yo te grangou, ou ba yo pen ki soti nan syèl la. Lè yo te swaf dlo, ou fè dlo pete soti nan wòch. Ou ba yo lòd pou y’ al pran pou yo peyi ou te pwomèt ou t’ap ba yo a.
16 Men, zansèt nou yo kite lògèy vire lòlòj yo. Yo fè tèt di, yo derefize obeyi lòd ou te ba yo.
17 Yo refize obeyi ou, yo bliye tout bèl mèvèy ou te fè pou yo. Yo fè tèt di, yo chwazi yon chèf pou mennen yo tounen nan esklavaj peyi Lejip la. Men, ou se Bondye ki konn padonnen. Ou gen pitye, ou gen bon kè. Ou pa fè kòlè fasil, Ou pa t’ janm sispann renmen yo. Ou pa t’ lage yo.
18 Yo fonn metal, yo fè yon zidòl fòm yon ti towo bèf. Epi yo di se li menm ki bondye yo, bondye ki te fè yo moute soti kite peyi Lejip. Lè sa a, se pi gwo jouman yo ta ka fè ou!
19 Men, ou pa vire do ou kite yo nan dezè a, sitèlman ou te gen anpil pitye pou yo. Ou pa t’ wete nwaj ki t’ap moutre yo chemen pou yo pran lajounen, ni gwo flanm dife ki t’ap klere chemen pou yo te pran lannwit.
20 Ou pran ti gout nan lespri ou, ou ba yo pou yo ka gen konprann. Ou toujou ba yo laman pou yo manje, ou toujou ba yo dlo lè yo te swaf dlo.
21 Pandan karantan, ou pran swen yo nan dezè a: yo pa janm manke anyen! Rad sou yo pa janm fini, pye yo pa janm anfle.
22 Ou lage nan men yo peyi anpil wa ak anpil pèp. Ou separe l’ ba yo pou chak moun viv nan limit ou ba yo. Yo pran peyi Esbon, kote wa Siyon t’ap gouvènen an, ak peyi Bazan kote wa Og te chèf la.
23 Ou ba yo anpil pitit, menm kantite ak zetwal nan syèl la. Ou mennen yo nan peyi ou te pwomèt zansèt yo ou t’ap fè yo pran pou yo a.
24 Yo anvayi peyi Kanaran, yo pran l’ pou yo. Ou fè moun peyi Kanaran an bese tèt devan yo. Ou lage tout wa yo ak tout pèp ki t’ap viv nan peyi a nan men pèp ou a, pou yo te fè ak yo sa yo te vle.
25 Pèp ou a mache pran tout lavil ki te gen gwo fò pou defann yo, ak tout bon venn tè moun yo. Yo pran tout kay yo ansanm ak tout byen ki te ladan yo. Yo jwenn sitèn tou fouye, jaden rezen, jaden oliv ak pyebwa k’ap donnen an kantite. Yo manje, yo plen vant yo, yo vin gra. Yo pran plezi jwi tout kantite bèl bagay ou te ba yo.
26 Men, yo rete konsa, yo vire do ba ou, yo fè wondonmon. Yo pran lalwa ou la, yo voye l’ jete dèyè do yo. Yo touye pwofèt ou te voye ak mesaj pou ba yo avètisman pou yo te ka tounen vin jwenn ou. Se pa ti kras manke yo te manke ou dega!
27 Se konsa, ou lage yo nan men moun ki pa vle we yo, ki bat yo nan lagè, ki mete pye sou kou yo. Nan tray yo te ye a, yo rele mande ou sekou. Ou rete nan syèl la, ou reponn yo. Ou te gen pitye pou yo, ou voye chèf pou delivre yo anba men moun ki t’ap peze yo.
28 Men, kou ou ba yo yon ti souf, yo konmanse ap fè sa ki mal ankò devan ou. Ou lage yo nan men lènmi ki t’ap kraze yo. Lè sa a ankò, yo pran rele nan pye ou. Ou menm menm, ou rete nan syèl la, ou reponn yo. Ou sitèlman gen bon kè, se pa ni de ni twa fwa ou delivre yo.
29 Ou te avèti yo, ou te mande yo pou yo obeyi tout lòd ou yo. Men, lògèy vire lòlòj yo, yo refize swiv kòmandman ou yo. Yo fè bagay ki pa dakò ak lòd ou ba yo. Epi se lè yon moun swiv lòd ou yo, li jwenn lavi! Men, yo fè wòklò, yo fè tèt di, yo derefize obeyi ou.
30 Pandan lontan lontan, ou pran pasyans ak yo, ou voye lespri ou sou pwofèt ou yo pou avèti yo. Men, yo bouche zòrèy yo pou yo pa tande. Lè sa a, ou lage yo nan men moun lòt nasyon yo.
31 Men, ou sitèlman gen bon kè, ou pa fin detwi yo nèt, ou pa lage yo nèt ale. Paske ou se yon Bondye ki gen bon kè, yon Bondye ki gen pitye pou moun!
32 Koulye a, Bondye nou, ou se yon Bondye ki gen pouvwa, yon Bondye ki gen fòs kouraj, yon Bondye ki fè moun respekte l’. W’ap toujou kenbe kontra ou te pase a, ou p’ap janm sispann gen bon kè. Tanpri, chonje lafliksyon ki te tonbe sou nou tout, sou wa nou yo, sou chèf nou yo, sou prèt nou yo, sou pwofèt nou yo, sou zansèt nou yo ak sou tout pèp la, depi lè wa peyi Lasiri yo t’ap peze nou an rive jouk koulye a. Pa kite nou soufri tou sa pou gremesi.
33 Nan tou sa ki rive nou an, ou te gen rezon ou nan pla men ou. Paske, ou menm ou toujou kenbe pawòl ou. Se nou menm ki toujou ap fè sa ki mal.
34 Wi, wa nou yo, chèf nou yo, prèt nou yo ak zansèt nou yo pa t’ fè sa ki nan lalwa ou la. Yo pa t’ koute kòmandman ak avètisman ou te ba yo.
35 Lè yo t’ap viv nan peyi yo a avèk pwòp wa yo, avèk tout gwo benediksyon ou te ba yo, nan gwo peyi plen bon venn tè ou te mete nan men yo a, yo pa t’ sèvi ou, yo pa t’ sispann fè move bagay.
36 Jòdi a, nou tounen esklav nan pwòp peyi nou, nan peyi ou te bay zansèt nou yo, pou yo te ka pwofite rekòt tè a bay ak tout lòt riches ki ladan l’. Nou tounen esklav lakay nou!
37 Tout rekòt peyi a al nan pòch wa ou mete sou kou nou. Tou sa, paske nou te fè peche. Yo fè sa yo vle ak nou ansanm ak bèt nou yo. Aa! Gade nan ki mizè nou ye non!
38 Avèk tout bagay sa yo ki rive nou, jòdi a nou menm pèp Izrayèl la, n’ap pran yon angajman, n’ap kouche l’ sou papye. Epi tout chèf nou yo, tout moun Levi nou yo ak tout prèt nou yo pral siyen dokiman an anvan nou mete so sou li.

Nehémie 9
1 Le vingt-quatrième jour du même mois, les enfants d’Israël s’assemblèrent, revêtus de sacs et couverts de poussière, pour la célébration d’un jeûne.
2 Ceux qui étaient de la race d’Israël, s’étant séparés de tous les étrangers, se présentèrent et confessèrent leurs péchés et les iniquités de leurs pères.
3 Lorsqu’ils furent placés, on lut dans le livre de la loi de l’Éternel, leur Dieu, pendant un quart de la journée; et pendant un autre quart ils confessèrent leurs péchés et se prosternèrent devant l’Éternel, leur Dieu.
4 Josué, Bani, Kadmiel, Schebania, Bunni, Schérébia, Bani et Kenani montèrent sur l’estrade des Lévites et crièrent à haute voix vers l’Éternel, leur Dieu.
5 Et les Lévites Josué, Kadmiel, Bani, Haschabnia, Schérébia, Hodija, Schebania et Pethachja, dirent: Levez-vous, bénissez l’Éternel, votre Dieu, d’éternité en éternité! Que l’on bénisse ton nom glorieux, qui est au-dessus de toute bénédiction et de toute louange!
6 C’est toi, Éternel, toi seul, qui as fait les cieux, les cieux des cieux et toute leur armée, la terre et tout ce qui est sur elle, les mers et tout ce qu’elles renferment. Tu donnes la vie à toutes ces choses, et l’armée des cieux se prosterne devant toi.
7 C’est toi, Éternel Dieu, qui as choisi Abram, qui l’as fait sortir d’Ur en Chaldée, et qui lui as donné le nom d’Abraham.
8 Tu trouvas son coeur fidèle devant toi, tu fis alliance avec lui, et tu promis de donner à sa postérité le pays des Cananéens, des Héthiens, des Amoréens, des Phéréziens, des Jébusiens et des Guirgasiens. Et tu as tenu ta parole, car tu es juste.
9 Tu vis l’affliction de nos pères en Égypte, et tu entendis leurs cris vers la mer Rouge.
10 Tu opéras des miracles et des prodiges contre Pharaon, contre tous ses serviteurs et contre tout le peuple de son pays, parce que tu savais avec quelle méchanceté ils avaient traité nos pères, et tu fis paraître ta gloire comme elle paraît aujourd’hui.
11 Tu fendis la mer devant eux, et ils passèrent à sec au milieu de la mer; mais tu précipitas dans l’abîme, comme une pierre au fond des eaux, ceux qui marchaient à leur poursuite.
12 Tu les guidas le jour par une colonne de nuée, et la nuit par une colonne de feu qui les éclairait dans le chemin qu’ils avaient à suivre.
13 Tu descendis sur la montagne de Sinaï, tu leur parlas du haut des cieux, et tu leur donnas des ordonnances justes, des lois de vérité, des préceptes et des commandements excellents.
14 Tu leur fis connaître ton saint sabbat, et tu leur prescrivis par Moïse, ton serviteur, des commandements, des préceptes et une loi.
15 Tu leur donnas, du haut des cieux, du pain quand ils avaient faim, et tu fis sortir de l’eau du rocher quand ils avaient soif. Et tu leur dis d’entrer en possession du pays que tu avais juré de leur donner.
16 Mais nos pères se livrèrent à l’orgueil et raidirent leur cou. Ils n’écoutèrent point tes commandements,
17 ils refusèrent d’obéir, et ils mirent en oubli les merveilles que tu avais faites en leur faveur. Ils raidirent leur cou; et, dans leur rébellion, ils se donnèrent un chef pour retourner à leur servitude. Mais toi, tu es un Dieu prêt à pardonner, compatissant et miséricordieux, lent à la colère et riche en bonté, et tu ne les abandonnas pas,
18 même quand ils se firent un veau en fonte et dirent: Voici ton Dieu qui t’a fait sortir d’Égypte, et qu’ils se livrèrent envers toi à de grands outrages.
19 Dans ton immense miséricorde, tu ne les abandonnas pas au désert, et la colonne de nuée ne cessa point de les guider le jour dans leur chemin, ni la colonne de feu de les éclairer la nuit dans le chemin qu’ils avaient à suivre.
20 Tu leur donnas ton bon esprit pour les rendre sages, tu ne refusas point ta manne à leur bouche, et tu leur fournis de l’eau pour leur soif.
21 Pendant quarante ans, tu pourvus à leur entretien dans le désert, et ils ne manquèrent de rien, leurs vêtements ne s’usèrent point, et leurs pieds ne s’enflèrent point.
22 Tu leur livras des royaumes et des peuples, dont tu partageas entre eux les contrées, et ils possédèrent le pays de Sihon, roi de Hesbon, et le pays d’Og, roi de Basan.
23 Tu multiplias leurs fils comme les étoiles des cieux, et tu les fis entrer dans le pays dont tu avais dit à leurs pères qu’ils prendraient possession.
24 Et leurs fils entrèrent et prirent possession du pays; tu humilias devant eux les habitants du pays, les Cananéens, et tu les livras entre leurs mains, avec leurs rois et les peuples du pays, pour qu’ils les traitassent à leur gré.
25 Ils devinrent maîtres de villes fortifiées et de terres fertiles; ils possédèrent des maisons remplies de toutes sortes de biens, des citernes creusées, des vignes, des oliviers, et des arbres fruitiers en abondance; ils mangèrent, ils se rassasièrent, ils s’engraissèrent, et ils vécurent dans les délices par ta grande bonté.
26 Néanmoins, ils se soulevèrent et se révoltèrent contre toi. Ils jetèrent ta loi derrière leur dos, ils tuèrent tes prophètes qui les conjuraient de revenir à toi, et ils se livrèrent envers toi à de grands outrages.
27 Alors tu les abandonnas entre les mains de leurs ennemis, qui les opprimèrent. Mais, au temps de leur détresse, ils crièrent à toi; et toi, tu les entendis du haut des cieux, et, dans ta grande miséricorde, tu leur donnas des libérateurs qui les sauvèrent de la main de leurs ennemis.
28 Quand ils eurent du repos, ils recommencèrent à faire le mal devant toi. Alors tu les abandonnas entre les mains de leurs ennemis, qui les dominèrent. Mais, de nouveau, ils crièrent à toi; et toi, tu les entendis du haut des cieux, et, dans ta grande miséricorde, tu les délivras maintes fois.
29 Tu les conjuras de revenir à ta loi; et ils persévérèrent dans l’orgueil, ils n’écoutèrent point tes commandements, ils péchèrent contre tes ordonnances, qui font vivre celui qui les met en pratique, ils eurent une épaule rebelle, ils raidirent leur cou, et ils n’obéirent point.
30 Tu les supportas de nombreuses années, tu leur donnas des avertissements par ton esprit, par tes prophètes; et ils ne prêtèrent point l’oreille. Alors tu les livras entre les mains des peuples étrangers.
31 Mais, dans ta grande miséricorde, tu ne les anéantis pas, et tu ne les abandonnas pas, car tu es un Dieu compatissant et miséricordieux.
32 Et maintenant, ô notre Dieu, Dieu grand, puissant et redoutable, toi qui gardes ton alliance et qui exerces la miséricorde, ne regarde pas comme peu de chose toutes les souffrances que nous avons éprouvées, nous, nos rois, nos chefs, nos sacrificateurs, nos prophètes, nos pères et tout ton peuple, depuis le temps des rois d’Assyrie jusqu’à ce jour.
33 Tu as été juste dans tout ce qui nous est arrivé, car tu t’es montré fidèle, et nous avons fait le mal.
34 Nos rois, nos chefs, nos sacrificateurs et nos pères n’ont point observé ta loi, et ils n’ont été attentifs ni à tes commandements ni aux avertissements que tu leur adressais.
35 Pendant qu’ils étaient les maîtres, au milieu des bienfaits nombreux que tu leur accordais, dans le pays vaste et fertile que tu leur avais livré, ils ne t’ont point servi et ils ne se sont point détournés de leurs oeuvres mauvaises.
36 Et aujourd’hui, nous voici esclaves! Nous voici esclaves sur la terre que tu as donnée à nos pères, pour qu’ils jouissent de ses fruits et de ses biens!
37 Elle multiplie ses produits pour les rois auxquels tu nous as assujettis, à cause de nos péchés; ils dominent à leur gré sur nos corps et sur notre bétail, et nous sommes dans une grande angoisse!
38 Pour tout cela, nous contractâmes une alliance, que nous mîmes par écrit; et nos chefs, nos Lévites et nos sacrificateurs y apposèrent leur sceau.

Nehemiah 9
1 Now in the twenty and fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackclothes, and earth upon them.
2 And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.
3 And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the Lord their God one fourth part of the day; and another fourth part they confessed, and worshipped the Lord their God.
4 Then stood up upon the stairs, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani, and cried with a loud voice unto the Lord their God.
5 Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, Stand up and bless the Lord your God for ever and ever: and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.
6 Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.
7 Thou art the Lord the God, who didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham;
8 And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, to his seed, and hast performed thy words; for thou art righteous:
9 And didst see the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heardest their cry by the Red sea;
10 And shewedst signs and wonders upon Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his land: for thou knewest that they dealt proudly against them. So didst thou get thee a name, as it is this day.
11 And thou didst divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors thou threwest into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.
12 Moreover thou leddest them in the day by a cloudy pillar; and in the night by a pillar of fire, to give them light in the way wherein they should go.
13 Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai, and spakest with them from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments:
14 And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant:
15 And gavest them bread from heaven for their hunger, and broughtest forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and promisedst them that they should go in to possess the land which thou hadst sworn to give them.
16 But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks, and hearkened not to thy commandments,
17 And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not.
18 Yea, when they had made them a molten calf, and said, This is thy God that brought thee up out of Egypt, and had wrought great provocations;
19 Yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to shew them light, and the way wherein they should go.
20 Thou gavest also thy good spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst.
21 Yea, forty years didst thou sustain them in the wilderness, so that they lacked nothing; their clothes waxed not old, and their feet swelled not.
22 Moreover thou gavest them kingdoms and nations, and didst divide them into corners: so they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.
23 Their children also multipliedst thou as the stars of heaven, and broughtest them into the land, concerning which thou hadst promised to their fathers, that they should go in to possess it.
24 So the children went in and possessed the land, and thou subduedst before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gavest them into their hands, with their kings, and the people of the land, that they might do with them as they would.
25 And they took strong cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods, wells digged, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance: so they did eat, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness.
26 Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.
27 Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.
28 But after they had rest, they did evil again before thee: therefore leftest thou them in the land of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them: yet when they returned, and cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and many times didst thou deliver them according to thy mercies;
29 And testifiedst against them, that thou mightest bring them again unto thy law: yet they dealt proudly, and hearkened not unto thy commandments, but sinned against thy judgments, (which if a man do, he shall live in them;) and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.
30 Yet many years didst thou forbear them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit in thy prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore gavest thou them into the hand of the people of the lands.
31 Nevertheless for thy great mercies’ sake thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake them; for thou art a gracious and merciful God.
32 Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day.
33 Howbeit thou art just in all that is brought upon us; for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly:
34 Neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept thy law, nor hearkened unto thy commandments and thy testimonies, wherewith thou didst testify against them.
35 For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works.
36 Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we are servants in it:
37 And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.
38 And because of all this we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, Levites, and priests, seal unto it.
