1 Moun Filisti yo leve yon sèl batay ak moun pèp Izrayèl yo sou mòn Gilboa. Anpil nan moun pèp Izrayèl yo te mouri, rès yo te kouri met deyò.
2 Moun Filisti yo rive sou Sayil ak pitit gason l’ yo. Yo touye Jonatan, Abinadad ak Malchichwa frèt.
3 Batay la te mangonmen kote Sayil te ye a. Mesye ki t’ap voye flèch nan banza yo te konmanse ap vize sou li. Lè li wè sa, li pran tranble.
4 Li rele gad ki t’ap pote zam li yo, li di l’ konsa: -Rale nepe ou, touye m’ pou bann moun sa yo ki pa sèvi Bondye pa gen tan rive sou mwen pou se yo ki touye m’, lèfini pou yo pase m’ nan betiz. Men gad kò a pa t’ vle paske li te pè anpil. Lè sa a, Sayil pran nepe a, li vire l’ tèt anba, li lage kò l’ sou li.
5 Lè gad kò a wè Sayil mouri, li fè menm bagay la tou, li lage kò l’ sou nepe li a. Li mouri ansanm avèk Sayil.
6 Se konsa, ni Sayil, ni twa pitit gason l’ yo, ni gad kò a te mouri. Jou sa a, tout mesye Sayil yo te mouri.
7 Lè moun pèp Izrayèl yo ki te rete lòt bò Fon Jizreyèl la ak lòt bò larivyè Jouden wè sòlda pèp Izrayèl yo kouri mèt deyò epi Sayil ak pitit gason l’ yo mouri, yo leve kite lavil kote yo te rete yo, yo mete deyò tou. Moun Filisti yo vini, yo pran lavil yo pou yo.
8 Nan denmen apre batay la, moun Filisti yo tounen pou pran zam ki te sou kadav sòlda mouri yo, yo jwenn kadav Sayil ak kadav twa pitit gason l’ yo kouche atè sou mòn Gilboa a.
9 Yo koupe tèt Sayil, yo pran tout zam li yo. Lèfini, yo voye gaye bon nouvèl sa a nan tout peyi Filisti a, nan tanp zidòl yo ak nan zòrèy tout pèp la.
10 Yo mete zam Sayil yo nan tanp Astate, zidòl yo a. Epi yo pran rès kò a, yo kloure l’ sou miray lavil Bèt Chean an.
11 Lè moun lavil Jabès yo, nan peyi Galarad, vin konnen sa moun Filisti yo te fè Sayil,
12 tout mesye ki te brave danje yo leve, yo mache tout lannwit jouk yo rive lavil Bèt Chean, yo desann kadav Sayil la ak kadav pitit gason l’ yo ki te kloure sou miray lavil la, yo tounen ak yo lavil Jabès, kote yo boule yo.
13 Lèfini, yo pran zosman yo, yo antere yo anba pye tonmaren ki nan lavil Jabès la. Apre sa, yo pase sèt jou san manje.

1 Les Philistins livrèrent bataille à Israël, et les hommes d’Israël prirent la fuite devant les Philistins et tombèrent morts sur la montagne de Guilboa.
2 Les Philistins poursuivirent Saül et ses fils, et tuèrent Jonathan, Abinadab et Malkischua, fils de Saül.
3 L’effort du combat porta sur Saül; les archers l’atteignirent, et le blessèrent grièvement.
4 Saül dit alors à celui qui portait ses armes: Tire ton épée, et m’en transperce, de peur que ces incirconcis ne viennent me percer et me faire subir leurs outrages. Celui qui portait ses armes ne voulut pas, car il était saisi de crainte. Et Saül prit son épée, et se jeta dessus.
5 Celui qui portait les armes de Saül, le voyant mort, se jeta aussi sur son épée, et mourut avec lui.
6 Ainsi périrent en même temps, dans cette journée, Saül et ses trois fils, celui qui portait ses armes, et tous ses gens.
7 Ceux d’Israël qui étaient de ce côté de la vallée et de ce côté du Jourdain, ayant vu que les hommes d’Israël s’enfuyaient et que Saül et ses fils étaient morts, abandonnèrent leurs villes pour prendre aussi la fuite. Et les Philistins allèrent s’y établir.
8 Le lendemain, les Philistins vinrent pour dépouiller les morts, et ils trouvèrent Saül et ses trois fils tombés sur la montagne de Guilboa.
9 Ils coupèrent la tête de Saül, et enlevèrent ses armes. Puis ils firent annoncer ces bonnes nouvelles par tout le pays des Philistins dans les maisons de leurs idoles et parmi le peuple.
10 Ils mirent les armes de Saül dans la maison des Astartés, et ils attachèrent son cadavre sur les murs de Beth Schan.
11 Lorsque les habitants de Jabès en Galaad apprirent comment les Philistins avaient traité Saül,
12 tous les vaillants hommes se levèrent, et, après avoir marché toute la nuit, ils arrachèrent des murs de Beth Schan le cadavre de Saül et ceux de ses fils. Puis ils revinrent à Jabès, où ils les brûlèrent;
13 ils prirent leurs os, et les enterrèrent sous le tamarisc à Jabès. Et ils jeûnèrent sept jours.

1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
2 And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Melchishua, Saul’s sons.
3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.
4 Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.
7 And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
9 And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.
10 And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan.
11 And when the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul;
12 All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.
13 And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
