1 Samyèl mouri, tout pèp Izrayèl la sanble pou yo kriye lanmò li. Lèfini, yo antere l’ anndan lakay li lavil Rama. Apre sa, David pati, li desann nan dezè Paran an.
2 Te gen yon nonm moun lavil Maon ki te gen bitasyon l’ lavil Kamèl. Nonm lan te rich anpil: li te gen twamil (3.000) tèt mouton ak mil (1000) tèt kabrit. Lè sa a, msye te lavil Kamèl pou fè taye lenn mouton l’ yo.
3 Msye te rele Nabal, madanm li te rele Abigayèl. Se te yon fanm ki te gen anpil lespri, lèfini li te bèl. Men, mari a te gen move jan, li pa t’ konn boule byen ak moun menm. Se te fanmi moun Kalèb yo.
4 Antan David nan dezè a, li vin konnen Nabal t’ap taye lenn mouton l’ yo.
5 Li voye dis jenn gason bò kote l’. Li di yo konsa: -Moute lavil Kamèl, ale lakay Nabal, n’a di l’ mwen voye bonjou pou li.
6 Men sa n’a di l’: David, frè ou, voye bonjou pou ou ak pou tout moun lakay ou. Li swete tout bagay ap mache byen lakay ou.
7 Li tande ou ap taye lenn mouton ou yo. Li voye di ou lè gadò mouton ou yo te avèk nou, nou pa t’ janm fè yo anyen. Yo pa janm pèdi anyen pandan tout tan yo te nan zòn Kamèl la.
8 Ou mèt mande yo, y’a di ou. David voye mande ou pou resevwa mesye pa l’ yo byen, paske se yon jou fèt nou rive isit la. Tanpri, mèt! Bay sa ou genyen pou nou k’ap sèvi ou, ak pou David, zanmi ou lan.
9 Mesye David yo rive vre, yo bay Nabal komisyon an nan non David. Epi yo rete tann.
10 Apre yon ti tan, Nabal reponn yo: -David? Pitit gason Izayi a? Mwen pa konnen l’ non. Atò, koulye peyi a plen yon bann domestik ki sove kite lakay mèt yo.
11 Anhan! Pou m’ pran pen ak dlo lakay mwen ak vyann bèt nou fè touye pou gadò mouton m’ yo, pou m’ bay yon bann moun mwen pa konnen kote yo soti?
12 Mesye yo tounen al jwenn David. Lè yo rive, yo rapòte ba li tou sa Nabal te di.
13 David di yo: -Pran nepe nou, pase yo nan ren nou. Yo tout pase nepe yo nan ren yo. David tou. Lèfini, katsan (400) nan mesye yo ale avèk David. Lòt desan yo (200) rete dèyè ak pwovizyon yo.
14 Yonn nan domestik Nabal yo al avèti Abigayèl, madanm Nabal, li di l’: -David te voye kèk mesaje soti nan dezè a avèk bèl bonjou pou mèt nou an. Men li menm, li pale mal ak yo.
15 Men, mesye sa yo te bon pou nou: Yo pa t’ janm chache nou kont. Nou pa t’ janm pèdi anyen pandan tout tan nou te la ansanm ak yo nan savann lan.
16 Yo te pwoteje nou lajounen kou lannwit pandan tout tan nou te la nan mitan yo ap pran swen bann mouton nou yo.
17 Koulye a, kalkile byen sa ou wè ou ka fè, paske bagay la ka vire mal ni pou mèt nou ni pou tout fanmi l’. Mari ou sitèlman gen move jan, moun pa ka pale ak li.
18 Abigayèl prese pran desan (200) pen, de gwo veso an po bèt plen diven, senk mouton tou kwit, de barik grenn griye, san mamit rezen chèch, desan (200) gato fèt ak figfrans chèch, li chaje tou sa sou bourik.
19 Lèfini, li di domestik li yo: -Nou mèt pran devan, mwen menm mwen dèyè. Men li pa di Nabal, mari l’ anyen.
20 Abigayèl te moute sou yon bourik. Li t’ap desann yon ti mòn lè li rive nan yon koub, li tonbe bab pou bab ak David ki t’ap mache sou li ansanm ak mesye l’ yo. Yo kontre.
21 David t’ap di nan kè li: -Sa m’ te bezwen pwoteje tou sa nonm sa a te genyen nan dezè a fè? Li pa janm pèdi anyen nan sa ki te pou li. Epi se konsa l’ap peye m’ pou tout byen mwen fè pou li yo?
22 Se pou Bondye ban m’ pi gwo pinisyon ki genyen si anvan denmen maten mwen pa touye dènye moun lakay li, granmoun kou timoun.
23 Wè Abigayèl wè David, li kouri desann bourik li a, li lage kò l’ ajenou devan David, li bese tèt li jouk atè.
24 Apre sa, li lage kò l’ nan pye David, li di l’ konsa: -Tanpri, chèf mwen, ban m’ pèmisyon pale avè ou. Tout fòt la se pou mwen. Koute sa m’ap di ou.
25 Tanpri, pa okipe nonm yo rele Nabal la. Se yon vòryen. Se pa pou gremesi yo rele l’ Nabal ki vle di moun fou. Mwen menm, mèt, mwen pa t’ wè mesye ou te voye yo.
26 Se Seyè a menm ki anpeche ou mete san deyò pou pran revanj ou. Koulye a, mwen fè sèman devan Seyè a ak devan ou menm, mèt mwen, se pou tout lènmi ou yo, tout moun ki ta vle fè ou mal, fini tankou Nabal.
27 Koulye a, mèt mwen, men sa mwen pote fè ou kado pou ou bay moun k’ap mache avè ou yo.
28 Tanpri, mèt, padonnen sa mwen fè ki mal. Seyè a va ba ou yon fanmi ki p’ap janm disparèt, paske batay w’ap mennen yo se batay Seyè a yo ye. Ou p’ap janm fè anyen ki mal nan tout lavi ou.
29 Si yon moun konprann pou li atake ou, si l’ap chache touye ou, Seyè a, Bondye ou la, va pwoteje ou. L’a sere ou bò kote l’ tankou lè yon moun ap sere yon bagay li renmen anpil. Men l’ap pran lènmi ou yo, l’ap voye yo jete byen lwen tankou lè yon moun ap voye wòch nan fistibal.
30 Konsa, lè Seyè a va fè pou ou tout bèl bagay li te pwomèt ou yo, lè l’a mete ou chèf sou pèp Izrayèl la,
31 wi, lè sa a, mèt mwen, ou p’ap bezwen nan règrèt, ni konsyans ou p’ap boulvèse deske ou te mete san moun deyò san rezon osinon deske ou te pran revanj ou sou moun. Lè Seyè a va beni ou, tanpri pa bliye m’.
32 David di Abigayèl konsa: -Lwanj pou Seyè a, Bondye pèp Izrayèl la, ki voye ou jòdi a vin kontre avè m’!
33 Kite m’ di Bondye mèsi pou bon konprann ou genyen an, pou ou menm tou deske jòdi a ou vin kenbe men m’ pou m’ pa mete san moun deyò, pou m’ pa tire revanj mwen mwen menm.
34 Seyè a pa kite m’ fè ou anyen. Men tou, si ou pa t’ prese vin kontre avè m’, mwen fè sèman devan Seyè a, Bondye pèp Izrayèl la, anvan denmen maten tout gason fanmi Nabal yo, ata ti gason piti yo, t’ap pèdi lavi yo.
35 Abigayèl renmèt David tou sa li te pote, epi David di l’: -Tounen lakay ou ak kè poze! Mwen koute tou sa ou di m’ la a. Ou pa bezwen bat kò ou.
36 Abigayèl tounen al jwenn Nabal lakay li. Nabal t’ap fè yon gwo resepsyon, parèy ak resepsyon wa yo konn fè. Nabal te sou anpil, kè l’ te kontan. Madanm lan pa di l’ anyen jouk nan denmen maten.
37 Nan maten, lè Nabal fin desoule, madanm li rakonte l’ tout bagay. Msye fè yon kriz kè, li vin paralize nan tout kò l’.
38 Dis jou apre sa, Seyè a frape Nabal, Nabal mouri.
39 Lè David vin konnen Nabal mouri, li di: -Lwanj pou Seyè a! Li fè Nabal peye wont li te fè m’ lan, li kenbe men m’ pou m’ pa fè sa ki mal. Seyè a fè mechanste Nabal la tonbe sou pwòp tèt li. Apre sa a David voye di Abigayèl li ta renmen l’ pou madanm.
40 Moun David yo al jwenn Abigayèl lavil Kamèl. Yo pale avè l’, yo di l’ konsa: -David voye nou bò kote ou pou nou mennen ou ba li pou l’ sa marye avè ou.
41 Abigayèl leve, li lage kò l’ ajenou, li bese tèt li atè epi li di: -Se domestik li mwen ye, mwen tou pare pou m’ lave pye moun pa l’ yo.
42 Abigayèl leve byen vit, li moute bourik li. Li pran senk jenn fi ki t’ap sèvi avè l’ lakay li. Li pati ak mesaje David yo. Se konsa li vin madanm David.
43 David te deja marye ak Akinoam, moun lavil Jizreyèl. Li vin pran Abigayèl koulye a, sa te fè l’ de madanm.
44 Sayil menm bò pa l’ te pran Mikal, pitit fi li a ki te madanm David, li marye l’ ak Palti, pitit gason Layis, moun lavil Galim.

1 Samuel mourut. Tout Israël s’étant assemblé le pleura, et on l’enterra dans sa demeure à Rama. Ce fut alors que David se leva et descendit au désert de Paran.
2 Il y avait à Maon un homme fort riche, possédant des biens à Carmel; il avait trois mille brebis et mille chèvres, et il se trouvait à Carmel pour la tonte de ses brebis.
3 Le nom de cet homme était Nabal, et sa femme s’appelait Abigaïl; c’était une femme de bon sens et belle de figure, mais l’homme était dur et méchant dans ses actions. Il descendait de Caleb.
4 David apprit au désert que Nabal tondait ses brebis.
5 Il envoya vers lui dix jeunes gens, auxquels il dit: Montez à Carmel, et allez auprès de Nabal. Vous le saluerez en mon nom,
6 et vous lui parlerez ainsi: Pour la vie soit en paix, et que la paix soit avec ta maison et tout ce qui t’appartient!
7 Et maintenant, j’ai appris que tu as les tondeurs. Or tes bergers ont été avec nous; nous ne leur avons fait aucun outrage, et rien ne leur a été enlevé pendant tout le temps qu’ils ont été à Carmel.
8 Demande-le à tes serviteurs, et ils te le diront. Que ces jeunes gens trouvent donc grâce à tes yeux, puisque nous venons dans un jour de joie. Donne donc, je te prie, à tes serviteurs et à ton fils David ce qui se trouvera sous ta main.
9 Lorsque les gens de David furent arrivés, ils répétèrent à Nabal toutes ces paroles, au nom de David. Puis ils se turent.
10 Nabal répondit aux serviteurs de David: Qui est David, et qui est le fils d’Isaï? Il y a aujourd’hui beaucoup de serviteurs qui s’échappent d’auprès de leurs maîtres.
11 Et je prendrais mon pain, mon eau, et mon bétail que j’ai tué pour mes tondeurs, et je les donnerais à des gens qui sont je ne sais d’où?
12 Les gens de David rebroussèrent chemin; ils s’en retournèrent, et redirent, à leur arrivée, toutes ces paroles à David.
13 Alors David dit à ses gens: Que chacun de vous ceigne son épée! Et ils ceignirent chacun leur épée. David aussi ceignit son épée, et environ quatre cents hommes montèrent à sa suite. Il en resta deux cents près des bagages.
14 Un des serviteurs de Nabal vint dire à Abigaïl, femme de Nabal: Voici, David a envoyé du désert des messagers pour saluer notre maître, qui les a rudoyés.
15 Et pourtant ces gens ont été très bons pour nous; ils ne nous ont fait aucun outrage, et rien ne nous a été enlevé, tout le temps que nous avons été avec eux lorsque nous étions dans les champs.
16 Ils nous ont nuit et jour servi de muraille, tout le temps que nous avons été avec eux, faisant paître les troupeaux.
17 Sache maintenant et vois ce que tu as à faire, car la perte de notre maître et de toute sa maison est résolue, et il est si méchant qu’on ose lui parler.
18 Abigaïl prit aussitôt deux cents pains, deux outres de vin, cinq pièces de bétail apprêtées, cinq mesures de grain rôti, cent masses de raisins secs, et deux cents de figues sèches. Elle les mit sur des ânes,
19 et elle dit à ses serviteurs: Passez devant moi, je vais vous suivre. Elle ne dit rien à Nabal, son mari.
20 Montée sur un âne, elle descendit la montagne par un chemin couvert; et voici, David et ses gens descendaient en face d’elle, en sorte qu’elle les rencontra.
21 David avait dit: C’est bien en vain que j’ai gardé tout ce que cet homme a dans le désert, et que rien n’a été enlevé de tout ce qu’il possède; il m’a rendu le mal pour le bien.
22 Que Dieu traite son serviteur David dans toute sa rigueur, si je laisse subsister jusqu’à la lumière du matin qui que ce soit de tout ce qui appartient à Nabal!
23 Lorsque Abigaïl aperçut David, elle descendit rapidement de l’âne, tomba sur sa face en présence de David, et se prosterna contre terre.
24 Puis, se jetant à ses pieds, elle dit: A moi la faute, mon seigneur! Permets à ta servante de parler à tes oreilles, et écoute les paroles de ta servante.
25 Que mon seigneur ne prenne pas garde à ce méchant homme, à Nabal, car il est comme son nom; Nabal est son nom, et il y a chez lui de la folie. Et moi, ta servante, je n’ai pas vu les gens que mon seigneur a envoyés.
26 Maintenant, mon seigneur, aussi vrai que l’Éternel est vivant et que ton âme est vivante, c’est l’Éternel qui t’a empêché de répandre le sang et qui a retenu ta main. Que tes ennemis, que ceux qui veulent du mal à mon seigneur soient comme Nabal!
27 Accepte ce présent que ta servante apporte à mon seigneur, et qu’il soit distribué aux gens qui marchent à la suite de mon seigneur.
28 Pardonne, je te prie, la faute de ta servante, car l’Éternel fera à mon seigneur une maison stable; pardonne, car mon seigneur soutient les guerres de l’Éternel, et la méchanceté ne se trouvera jamais en toi.
29 S’il s’élève quelqu’un qui te poursuive et qui en veuille à ta vie, l’âme de mon seigneur sera liée dans le faisceau des vivants auprès de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, et il lancera du creux de la fronde l’âme de tes ennemis.
30 Lorsque l’Éternel aura fait à mon seigneur tout le bien qu’il t’a annoncé, et qu’il t’aura établi chef sur Israël,
31 mon seigneur n’aura ni remords ni souffrance de coeur pour avoir répandu le sang inutilement et pour s’être vengé lui-même. Et lorsque l’Éternel aura fait du bien à mon seigneur, souviens-toi de ta servante.
32 David dit à Abigaïl: Béni soit l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, qui t’a envoyée aujourd’hui à ma rencontre!
33 Béni soit ton bon sens, et bénie sois-tu, toi qui m’as empêché en ce jour de répandre le sang, et qui as retenu ma main!
34 Mais l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, qui m’a empêché de te faire du mal, est vivant! si tu ne t’étais hâtée de venir au-devant de moi, il ne serait resté qui que ce soit à Nabal, d’ici à la lumière du matin.
35 Et David prit de la main d’Abigaïl ce qu’elle lui avait apporté, et lui dit: Monte en paix dans ta maison; vois, j’ai écouté ta voix, et je t’ai favorablement accueillie.
36 Abigaïl arriva auprès de Nabal. Et voici, il faisait dans sa maison un festin comme un festin de roi; il avait le coeur joyeux, et il était complètement dans l’ivresse. Elle ne lui dit aucune chose, petite ou grande, jusqu’à la lumière du matin.
37 Mais le matin, l’ivresse de Nabal s’étant dissipée, sa femme lui raconta ce qui s’était passé. Le coeur de Nabal reçut un coup mortel, et devint comme une pierre.
38 Environ dix jours après, l’Éternel frappa Nabal, et il mourut.
39 David apprit que Nabal était mort, et il dit: Béni soit l’Éternel, qui a défendu ma cause dans l’outrage que m’a fait Nabal, et qui a empêché son serviteur de faire le mal! L’Éternel a fait retomber la méchanceté de Nabal sur sa tête. David envoya proposer à Abigaïl de devenir sa femme.
40 Les serviteurs de David arrivèrent chez Abigaïl à Carmel, et lui parlèrent ainsi: David nous a envoyés vers toi, afin de te prendre pour sa femme.
41 Elle se leva, se prosterna le visage contre terre, et dit: Voici, ta servante sera une esclave pour laver les pieds des serviteurs de mon seigneur.
42 Et aussitôt Abigaïl partit, montée sur un âne, et accompagnée de cinq jeunes filles; elle suivit les messagers de David, et elle devint sa femme.
43 David avait aussi pris Achinoam de Jizreel, et toutes les deux furent ses femmes.
44 Et Saül avait donné sa fille Mical, femme de David, à Palthi de Gallim, fils de Laïsch.

1 And Samuel died; and all the Israelites were gathered together, and lamented him, and buried him in his house at Ramah. And David arose, and went down to the wilderness of Paran.
2 And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.
3 Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb.
4 And David heard in the wilderness that Nabal did shear his sheep.
5 And David sent out ten young men, and David said unto the young men, Get you up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name:
6 And thus shall ye say to him that liveth in prosperity, Peace be both to thee, and peace be to thine house, and peace be unto all that thou hast.
7 And now I have heard that thou hast shearers: now thy shepherds which were with us, we hurt them not, neither was there ought missing unto them, all the while they were in Carmel.
8 Ask thy young men, and they will shew thee. Wherefore let the young men find favour in thine eyes: for we come in a good day: give, I pray thee, whatsoever cometh to thine hand unto thy servants, and to thy son David.
9 And when David’s young men came, they spake to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David, and ceased.
10 And Nabal answered David’s servants, and said, Who is David? and who is the son of Jesse? there be many servants now a days that break away every man from his master.
11 Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my flesh that I have killed for my shearers, and give it unto men, whom I know not whence they be?
12 So David’s young men turned their way, and went again, and came and told him all those sayings.
13 And David said unto his men, Gird ye on every man his sword. And they girded on every man his sword; and David also girded on his sword: and there went up after David about four hundred men; and two hundred abode by the stuff.
14 But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal’s wife, saying, Behold, David sent messengers out of the wilderness to salute our master; and he railed on them.
15 But the men were very good unto us, and we were not hurt, neither missed we any thing, as long as we were conversant with them, when we were in the fields:
16 They were a wall unto us both by night and day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.
17 Now therefore know and consider what thou wilt do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: for he is such a son of Belial, that a man cannot speak to him.
18 Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched corn, and an hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on asses.
19 And she said unto her servants, Go on before me; behold, I come after you. But she told not her husband Nabal.
20 And it was so, as she rode on the ass, that she came down by the covert on the hill, and, behold, David and his men came down against her; and she met them.
21 Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow hath in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained unto him: and he hath requited me evil for good.
22 So and more also do God unto the enemies of David, if I leave of all that pertain to him by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.
23 And when Abigail saw David, she hasted, and lighted off the ass, and fell before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground,
24 And fell at his feet, and said, Upon me, my lord, upon me let this iniquity be: and let thine handmaid, I pray thee, speak in thine audience, and hear the words of thine handmaid.
25 Let not my lord, I pray thee, regard this man of Belial, even Nabal: for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I thine handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom thou didst send.
26 Now therefore, my lord, as the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, seeing the Lord hath withholden thee from coming to shed blood, and from avenging thyself with thine own hand, now let thine enemies, and they that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.
27 And now this blessing which thine handmaid hath brought unto my lord, let it even be given unto the young men that follow my lord.
28 I pray thee, forgive the trespass of thine handmaid: for the Lord will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my lord fighteth the battles of the Lord, and evil hath not been found in thee all thy days.
29 Yet a man is risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the Lord thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall he sling out, as out of the middle of a sling.
30 And it shall come to pass, when the Lord shall have done to my lord according to all the good that he hath spoken concerning thee, and shall have appointed thee ruler over Israel;
31 That this shall be no grief unto thee, nor offence of heart unto my lord, either that thou hast shed blood causeless, or that my lord hath avenged himself: but when the Lord shall have dealt well with my lord, then remember thine handmaid.
32 And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meet me:
33 And blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself with mine own hand.
34 For in very deed, as the Lord God of Israel liveth, which hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.
35 So David received of her hand that which she had brought him, and said unto her, Go up in peace to thine house; see, I have hearkened to thy voice, and have accepted thy person.
36 And Abigail came to Nabal; and, behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal’s heart was merry within him, for he was very drunken: wherefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.
37 But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.
38 And it came to pass about ten days after, that the Lord smote Nabal, that he died.
39 And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the Lord, that hath pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and hath kept his servant from evil: for the Lord hath returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent and communed with Abigail, to take her to him to wife.
40 And when the servants of David were come to Abigail to Carmel, they spake unto her, saying, David sent us unto thee, to take thee to him to wife.
41 And she arose, and bowed herself on her face to the earth, and said, Behold, let thine handmaid be a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.
42 And Abigail hasted, and arose and rode upon an ass, with five damsels of hers that went after her; and she went after the messengers of David, and became his wife.
43 David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel; and they were also both of them his wives.
44 But Saul had given Michal his daughter, David’s wife, to Phalti the son of Laish, which was of Gallim.
