1 Yon jou Samson desann ale lavil Timna, li wè yon jenn fi nan moun Filisti yo li renmen.
2 Li tounen vin di papa l’ ak manman l’: -Mwen wè lavil Timna yon jenn fi mwen renmen nan moun Filisti yo. Al mande pou li pou mwen.
3 Manman l’ ak papa l’ di l’ konsa: -Poukisa pou ou ale jouk kay moun Filisti yo, moun ki p’ap sèvi Bondye nou an, pou al chache yon madanm? Ou pa jwenn yon jenn fi nan fanmi ou, osinon nan pèp nou an pou ou marye? Men, Samson reponn papa l’: -Tanpri, al fè lademann lan pou mwen, paske se li menm mwen renmen.
4 Papa l’ ak manman l’ pa t’ konnen se Seyè a ki t’ap pouse Samson fè sa pou l’ te ka jwenn yon okazyon gen kont ak moun Filisti yo. Lè sa a, se moun Filisti ki te chèf sou moun pèp Izrayèl yo.
5 Se konsa Samson desann lavil Timna ansanm ak papa l’ ak manman l’. Lè yo rive nan jaden rezen ki toupre lavil Timna a, li wè yon jenn lyon ki t’ap gwonde ki t’ap vanse sou li.
6 Lamenm, lespri Seyè a vin sou li. Li vin gen yon sèl fòs, li dechèpiye lyon an pak an pak ak men li tankou si se te yon jenn ti kabrit. Men, li pa rakonte papa l’ ak manman l’ sa l’ te fè a.
7 Lèfini, l’ ale, li pale ak ti fi a, li renmen l’.

11 Lè moun Filisti yo wè l’, yo pran trant jenn gason yo voye pou rete avè l’.
12 Samson di yo: -Mwen pral ban nou yon kont. Si nou jwenn li anvan sèt jou fèt nòs la fin pase, m’ap ban nou trant bèl varèz ak trant rechanj fèt ak bèl twal.
13 Men, si nou pa jwenn li anvan lè sa a, se nou ki pral ban mwen trant varèz ak trant rechanj. Yo di l’: -Dakò! Ban nou kont la. Fè nou tande l’.
14 Li di yo: -Manje soti nan vant sa ki konn touye pou manje. Sa ki dous soti nan sa ki gen anpil fòs. Twa jou pase, yo pa t’ ankò jwenn kont la.
15 Sou katriyèm jou a, yo rele madan Samson, yo di l’ konsa: -Pran tèt mari ou, fè l’ ban nou kont la. Si ou pa fè sa, n’ap mete dife lakay papa ou, n’ap boule l’ ansanm avè ou ladan l’! Gen lè se pou eskanmòte tou sa nou genyen ou te envite nou isit la?
16 Se konsa madan Samson al jwenn mari l’, li pran kriye sou zepòl li, li di l’ konsa: -Ou pa renmen m’! Se rayi ou rayi m’! Ou bay zanmi m’ yo yon kont, ou pa janm di m’ sa l’ vle di! Samson reponn li: -Gade, machè! Mwen pa menm di papa m’ ak manman m’ sa kont la ye. Atò se ou menm mwen ta di l’?
17 Pandan tout sèt jou fèt nòs la, li pa t’ sispann kriye nan zòrèy Samson. Sou setyèm jou a, Samson ba li sekrè kont la paske fanm lan t’ap anbete l’ twòp. Lèfini fanm lan soti al di ras li yo sa kont lan vle di.
18 Se konsa, sou setyèm jou a, anvan Samson antre nan chanm li pou l’ al dòmi, mesye lavil yo di l’ konsa: -Kisa ki pi dous pase siwo myèl? Kisa ki gen plis fòs pase lyon? Samson di yo: -Si nou pa t’ travay tèt madanm mwen, nou pa ta janm jwenn kont mwen an!
19 Lè sa a, lespri Seyè a desann sou Samson pou ba l’ fòs. Li pati, l’ ale lavil Askalon. Li touye trant gason nan moun lavil la, epi li pran rad ki te sou yo, li pote yo bay mesye ki te jwenn kont lan. Apre sa, li fè yon sèl kòlè, li tounen lakay papa l’.
20 Lè sa a, moun yo rele yonn nan moun ki te avèk Samson yo, sa ki te pi bon zanmi l’ lan, yo ba li madan Samson pou madanm li.

1 Samson descendit à Thimna, et il y vit une femme parmi les filles des Philistins.
2 Lorsqu’il fut remonté, il le déclara à son père et à sa mère, et dit: J’ai vu à Thimna une femme parmi les filles des Philistins; prenez-la maintenant pour ma femme.
3 Son père et sa mère lui dirent: N’y a-t-il point de femme parmi les filles de tes frères et dans tout notre peuple, que tu ailles prendre une femme chez les Philistins, qui sont incirconcis? Et Samson dit à son père: Prends-la pour moi, car elle me plaît.
4 Son père et sa mère ne savaient pas que cela venait de l’Éternel: car Samson cherchait une occasion de dispute de la part des Philistins. En ce temps là, les Philistins dominaient sur Israël.
5 Samson descendit avec son père et sa mère à Thimna. Lorsqu’ils arrivèrent aux vignes de Thimna, voici, un jeune lion rugissant vint à sa rencontre.
6 L’esprit de l’Éternel saisit Samson; et, sans avoir rien à la main, Samson déchira le lion comme on déchire un chevreau. Il ne dit point à son père et à sa mère ce qu’il avait fait.
7 Il descendit et parla à la femme, et elle lui plut.
8 Quelque temps après, il se rendit de nouveau à Thimna pour la prendre, et se détourna pour voir le cadavre du lion. Et voici, il y avait un essaim d’abeilles et du miel dans le corps du lion.
9 Il prit entre ses mains le miel, dont il mangea pendant la route; et lorsqu’il fut arrivé près de son père et de sa mère, il leur en donna, et ils en mangèrent. Mais il ne leur dit pas qu’il avait pris ce miel dans le corps du lion.
10 Le père de Samson descendit chez la femme. Et là, Samson fit un festin, car c’était la coutume des jeunes gens.
11 Dès qu’on le vit, on invita trente compagnons qui se tinrent avec lui.
12 Samson leur dit: Je vais vous proposer une énigme. Si vous me l’expliquez pendant les sept jours du festin, et si vous la découvrez, je vous donnerai trente chemises et trente vêtements de rechange.
13 Mais si vous ne pouvez pas me l’expliquer, ce sera vous qui me donnerez trente chemises et trente vêtements de rechange. Ils lui dirent: Propose ton énigme, et nous l’écouterons.
14 Et il leur dit: De celui qui mange est sorti ce qui se mange, et du fort est sorti le doux. Pendant trois jours, ils ne purent expliquer l’énigme.
15 Le septième jour, ils dirent à la femme de Samson: Persuade à ton mari de nous expliquer l’énigme; sinon, nous te brûlerons, toi et la maison de ton père. C’est pour nous dépouiller que vous nous avez invités, n’est-ce pas?
16 La femme de Samson pleurait auprès de lui, et disait: Tu n’as pour moi que de la haine, et tu ne m’aimes pas; tu as proposé une énigme aux enfants de mon peuple, et tu ne me l’as point expliquée! Et il lui répondait: Je ne l’ai expliquée ni à mon père ni à ma mère; est-ce à toi que je l’expliquerais?
17 Elle pleura auprès de lui pendant les sept jours que dura leur festin; et le septième jour, il la lui expliqua, car elle le tourmentait. Et elle donna l’explication de l’énigme aux enfants de son peuple.
18 Les gens de la ville dirent à Samson le septième jour, avant le coucher du soleil: Quoi de plus doux que le miel, et quoi de plus fort que le lion? Et il leur dit: Si vous n’aviez pas labouré avec ma génisse, vous n’auriez pas découvert mon énigme.
19 L’esprit de l’Éternel le saisit, et il descendit à Askalon. Il y tua trente hommes, prit leurs dépouilles, et donna les vêtements de rechange à ceux qui avaient expliqué l’énigme. Il était enflammé de colère, et il monta à la maison de son père.
20 Sa femme fut donnée à l’un de ses compagnons, avec lequel il était lié.

1 And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.
2 And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.
3 Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.
4 But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the Lord, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.
5 Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him.
6 And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.
7 And he went down, and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well.
8 And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion.
9 And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.
10 So his father went down unto the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do.
11 And it came to pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.
12 And Samson said unto them, I will now put forth a riddle unto you: if ye can certainly declare it me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty sheets and thirty change of garments:
13 But if ye cannot declare it me, then shall ye give me thirty sheets and thirty change of garments. And they said unto him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may hear it.
14 And he said unto them, Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days expound the riddle.
15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto Samson’s wife, Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father’s house with fire: have ye called us to take that we have? is it not so?
16 And Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told it me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?
17 And she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she lay sore upon him: and she told the riddle to the children of her people.
18 And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion? and he said unto them, If ye had not plowed with my heifer, ye had not found out my riddle.
19 And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father’s house.
20 But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.
