Jonas 1
1 Yon jou, Seyè a pale ak Jonas, pitit gason Amitayi a,
2 li di l’ konsa: -Leve non. Ale lavil Niniv, gwo kapital la. Al fè moun la konnen mechanste yo rive jouk nan zòrèy mwen.
3 Men lè sa a, Jonas leve, li pati nan direksyon Tasis, paske li t’ap kouri pou Seyè a. Li desann lavil Jope. Rive la, li jwenn yon batiman ki t’ap pare pou pati pou Tasis. Li peye pasaj li. Li moute abò batiman an avèk marin yo. Li pati pou Tasis, paske li t’ap kouri pou Seyè a.
4 Men, Seyè a voye yon gwo van sou lanmè a. Yon sèl gwo van tanpèt leve, batiman an te prèt pou koule.
5 Marin yo te pè anpil. Chak moun t’ap lapriyè bondye pa yo. Pou yo te ka soulaje batiman an, yo lage dènye chay nan lanmè. Jonas menm poutèt pa l’ te desann nan lakal batiman an, li kouche kouche l’. Dòmi pote l’ ale.
6 Kaptenn batiman an al jwenn li, li di l’ konsa: -Ey! Apa se dòmi w’ap dòmi? Leve non, monchè. Lapriyè bondye ou la. Ou pa janm konnen, li ka gen pitye pou nou, li ka pa kite nou mouri.
7 Apre sa, marin yo yon di lòt: -Ann tire osò pou n’ konnen ki moun ki lakòz sa rive nou. Yo tire osò, epi se non Jonas ki soti.
8 Epi yo di l’: -Di nou sa ki lakòz malè sa a rive nou. Sa w’ap fè isit la? Kote ou soti? Moun ki peyi ou ye? Ki nanchon ou?
9 Jonas reponn yo: -Mwen se ebre. Mwen gen krentif pou Seyè a, Bondye ki fè syèl la, lanmè a ak tè a.
10 Jonas pale ak yo, li di yo ki jan li t’ap kouri pou Seyè a. Marin yo te sezi yon sèl sezi. Yo di l’ konsa: -Sa ou fè konsa, monchè?
11 Lanmè a t’ap vin pi move chak lè. Yo di l’: -Sa pou nou fè ak ou pou lanmè a vin kal?
12 Jonas reponn yo: -Pran m’, lage m’ nan lanmè. Lanmè a va kal nèt. Mwen konnen se mwen menm menm ki lakòz nou pran nan van tanpèt sa a.
13 Marin yo menm t’ap naje zaviwon pou wè si yo ta mennen batiman an ale atè. Men, yo pa t’ kapab, lanmè a t’ap vin pi move toujou.
14 Lè yo wè sa, yo rele nan pye Seyè a, yo lapriyè l’ konsa: -O Seyè! Tanpri, pa kite nou mouri poutèt nonm sa a. Pa rann nou reskonsab lanmò yon moun ki inonsan. Paske, se ou menm, Seyè, ki vle l’ konsa.
15 Epi yo pran Jonas, yo lage l’ nan lanmè. Lamenm, kalmi fèt.
16 Lè marin yo wè sa, yo te vin pè Seyè a anpil. Yo ofri bèt pou touye ba li. Yo pwomèt pou yo sèvi l’.
17 Seyè a fè yon gwo pwason vin vale Jonas. Jonas te pase twa jou twa nwit nan vant pwason an.

Jonas 1
1 La parole de l’Éternel fut adressée à Jonas, fils d’Amitthaï, en ces mots:
2 Lève-toi, va à Ninive, la grande ville, et crie contre elle! car sa méchanceté est montée jusqu’à moi.
3 Et Jonas se leva pour s’enfuir à Tarsis, loin de la face de l’Éternel. Il descendit à Japho, et il trouva un navire qui allait à Tarsis; il paya le prix du transport, et s’embarqua pour aller avec les passagers à Tarsis, loin de la face de l’Éternel.
4 Mais l’Éternel fit souffler sur la mer un vent impétueux, et il s’éleva sur la mer une grande tempête. Le navire menaçait de faire naufrage.
5 Les mariniers eurent peur, ils implorèrent chacun leur dieu, et ils jetèrent dans la mer les objets qui étaient sur le navire, afin de le rendre plus léger. Jonas descendit au fond du navire, se coucha, et s’endormit profondément.
6 Le pilote s’approcha de lui, et lui dit: Pourquoi dors-tu? Lève-toi, invoque ton Dieu! peut-être voudra-t-il penser à nous, et nous ne périrons pas.
7 Et il se rendirent l’un à l’autre: Venez, et tirons au sort, pour savoir qui nous attire ce malheur. Ils tirèrent au sort, et le sort tomba sur Jonas.
8 Alors ils lui dirent: Dis-nous qui nous attire ce malheur. Quelles sont tes affaires, et d’où viens-tu? Quel est ton pays, et de quel peuple es-tu?
9 Il leur répondit: Je suis Hébreu, et je crains l’Éternel, le Dieu des cieux, qui a fait la mer et la terre.
10 Ces hommes eurent une grande frayeur, et ils lui dirent: Pourquoi as-tu fait cela? Car ces hommes savaient qu’il fuyait loin de la face de l’Éternel, parce qu’il le leur avait déclaré.
11 Ils lui dirent: Que te ferons-nous, pour que la mer se calme envers nous? Car la mer était de plus en plus orageuse.
12 Il leur répondit: Prenez-moi, et jetez-moi dans la mer, et la mer se calmera envers vous; car je sais que c’est moi qui attire sur vous cette grande tempête.
13 Ces hommes ramaient pour gagner la terre, mais ils ne le purent, parce que la mer s’agitait toujours plus contre eux.
14 Alors ils invoquèrent l’Éternel, et dirent: O Éternel, ne nous fais pas périr à cause de la vie de cet homme, et ne nous charge pas du sang innocent! Car toi, Éternel, tu fais ce que tu veux.
15 Puis ils prirent Jonas, et le jetèrent dans la mer. Et la fureur de la mer s’apaisa.
16 Ces hommes furent saisis d’une grande crainte de l’Éternel, et ils offrirent un sacrifice à l’Éternel, et firent des voeux.
17 (2:1) L’Éternel fit venir un grand poisson pour engloutir Jonas, et Jonas fut dans le ventre du poisson trois jours et trois nuits.

Jonah 1
1 Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,
2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.
4 But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.
5 Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.
6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.
7 And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.
8 Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?
9 And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.
10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him. Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.
11 Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.
12 And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.
13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.
14 Wherefore they cried unto the Lord, and said, We beseech thee, O Lord, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased thee.
15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.
16 Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the Lord, and made vows.
17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
