Esdras 10
1 Esdras menm te ajenou toujou, fas atè, devan Kay Bondye a, li t’ap lapriyè. Dlo nan je, li t’ap rekonèt tout fòt pèp la te fè devan Bondye. Pandan li t’ap fè sa, yon foul moun pèp Izrayèl la, gason, fanm ak timoun, vin sanble fè wonn bò kote l’. Dlo t’ap ponpe nan je yo tout.
2 Le sa a, Chekanya, pitit gason Jeyèl la, nan branch fanmi Elam lan, pran lapawòl. Li di Esdras konsa: -Nou trayi Bondye nou an vre lè nou pran fanm lòt nasyon k’ap viv nan peyi a pou madanm nou. Men malgre sa, mwen kwè gen espwa toujou pou pèp Izrayèl la.
3 Nou tout pral pran angajman an piblik devan Bondye pou nou ranvwaye tout medam sa yo ansanm ak pitit yo fè pou nou. Wi, mèt, nou pral swiv konsèy ou menm ak lòt moun ki gen respè pou kòmandman Bondye nou an te ban nou. Se pou nou fè tou sa lalwa Bondye a mande nou fè.
4 Leve non! Se ou menm ki pou regle bagay sa a. N’ap kanpe la avè ou! Kouraj! Annavan!
5 Lè sa a, Esdras leve, li fè chèf prèt yo, chèf moun Levi yo ak tout rès moun yo sèmante yo pral fè sa Chekanya te di a. Yo sèmante vre.
6 Apre sa, Esdras ale lakay Jokanan, pitit gason Eliyachib la, sou devan tanp Bondye a. Li pase nwit lan la, san manje, san bwè, paske li te nan gwo lapenn dèske moun yo te depòte epi ki te tounen nan peyi a pa t’ kenbe pawòl yo.
7 Yo fè yon piblikasyon nan tout peyi Jida a ak nan lavil Jerizalèm, pou mande tout moun ki te tounen soti nan peyi kote yo te depòte yo a pou yo tout te reyini lavil Jerizalèm.
8 Si yon moun kite twa jou pase li pa moute, tout chèf yo ak tout moun ki an tèt branch fanmi yo te dakò pou yo te sezi tout byen moun sa a, pou yo te fè tanp Bondye a kado l’, lèfini pou yo pa t’ konsidere l’ tankou moun sosyete a ankò avèk rès moun ki te tounen soti kote yo te depòte yo a.
9 Nan twa jou vre, ki te ventyèm jou nan nevyèm mwa a, tout gason ki t’ap viv sou pòsyon tè ki te pou branch fanmi Jida ak branch fanmi Benjamen yo te sanble lavil Jerizalèm. Yo rete sou plas piblik ki devan tanp Bondye a. Yon gwo lapli t’ap tonbe. Tout moun t’ap tranble, yo te frèt, men yo te pè tou paske se te yon gwo zafè.
10 Lè sa a, Esdras, prèt la, leve, li di yo: -Lè nou marye ak fanm lòt nasyon yo, se trayi nou trayi Bondye. Se mete nou mete sou tou sa k’ap fèt mal deja nan mitan pèp Izrayèl la.
11 Men koulye a, rekonèt devan Seyè a, Bondye zansèt nou yo, sa nou fè ki mal la. Fè sa li vle nou fè a: pran distans nou ak moun lòt nasyon k’ap viv nan peyi a. Separe ak fanm nou te pran pami lòt nasyon yo pou madanm.
12 Tout pèp la pran reponn byen fò: -Wi. N’ap fè tou sa ou mande nou fè!
13 Men pèp la anpil. Se sezon lapli. Nou pa ka rete deyò a konsa. Epitou, se pa bagay k’ap pran yon jou osinon de jou, paske gen anpil nan nou ki koupab nan zafè sa a.
14 Se pou chèf nou yo rete isit la nan plas nou pou regle bagay la. Nan dat y’a fikse a, tout moun nan peyi a ki marye ak yon fanm lòt nasyon va vin parèt devan yo. Esdras 10
1 Pendant qu’Esdras, pleurant et prosterné devant la maison de Dieu, faisait cette prière et cette confession, il s’était rassemblé auprès de lui une foule très nombreuse de gens d’Israël, hommes, femmes et enfants, et le peuple répandait d’abondantes larmes.
2 Alors Schecania, fils de Jehiel, d’entre les fils d’Élam, prit la parole et dit à Esdras: Nous avons péché contre notre Dieu, en nous alliant à des femmes étrangères qui appartiennent aux peuples du pays. Mais Israël ne reste pas pour cela sans espérance.
3 Faisons maintenant une alliance avec notre Dieu pour le renvoi de toutes ces femmes et de leurs enfants, selon l’avis de mon seigneur et de ceux qui tremblent devant les commandements de notre Dieu. Et que l’on agisse d’après la loi.
4 Lève-toi, car cette affaire te regarde. Nous serons avec toi. Prends courage et agis.
5 Esdras se leva, et il fit jurer aux chefs des sacrificateurs, des Lévites, et de tout Israël, de faire ce qui venait d’être dit. Et ils le jurèrent.
6 Puis Esdras se retira de devant la maison de Dieu, et il alla dans la chambre de Jochanan, fils d’Éliaschib; quand il y fut entré, il ne mangea point de pain et il ne but point d’eau, parce qu’il était dans la désolation à cause du péché des fils de la captivité.
7 On publia dans Juda et à Jérusalem que tous les fils de la captivité eussent à se réunir à Jérusalem,
8 et que, d’après l’avis des chefs et des anciens, quiconque ne s’y serait pas rendu dans trois jours aurait tous ses biens confisqués et serait lui-même exclu de l’assemblée des fils de la captivité.
9 Tous les hommes de Juda et de Benjamin se rassemblèrent à Jérusalem dans les trois jours. C’était le vingtième jour du neuvième mois. Tout le peuple se tenait sur la place de la maison de Dieu, tremblant à cause de la circonstance et par suite de la pluie.
10 Esdras, le sacrificateur, se leva et leur dit: Vous avez péché en vous alliant à des femmes étrangères, et vous avez rendu Israël encore plus coupable.
11 Confessez maintenant votre faute à l’Éternel, le Dieu de vos pères, et faites sa volonté! Séparez-vous des peuples du pays et des femmes étrangères.
12 Toute l’assemblée répondit d’une voix haute: A nous de faire comme tu l’as dit!
13 Mais le peuple est nombreux, le temps est à la pluie, et il n’est pas possible de rester dehors; d’ailleurs, ce n’est pas l’oeuvre d’un jour ou deux, car il y en a beaucoup parmi nous qui ont péché dans cette affaire.
14 Que nos chefs restent donc pour toute l’assemblée; et tous ceux qui dans nos villes se sont alliés à des femmes étrangères viendront à des époques fixes, avec les anciens et les juges de chaque ville, jusqu’à ce que l’ardente colère de notre Dieu se soit détournée de nous au sujet de cette affaire.
15 Jonathan, fils d’Asaël, et Jachzia, fils de Thikva, appuyés par Meschullam et par le Lévite Schabthai, furent les seuls à combattre cet avis,
16 auquel se conformèrent les fils de la captivité. On choisit Esdras, le sacrificateur, et des chefs de famille selon leurs maisons paternelles, tous désignés par leurs noms; et ils siégèrent le premier jour du dixième mois pour s’occuper de la chose.
17 Le premier jour du premier mois, ils en finirent avec tous les hommes qui s’étaient alliés à des femmes étrangères.
18 Parmi les fils de sacrificateurs, il s’en trouva qui s’étaient alliés à des femmes étrangères: des fils de Josué, fils de Jotsadak, et de ses frères, Maaséja, Éliézer, Jarib et Guedalia,
19 qui s’engagèrent, en donnant la main, à renvoyer leurs femmes et à offrir un bélier en sacrifice de culpabilité;
20 des fils d’Immer, Hanani et Zebadia;
21 des fils de Harim, Maaséja, Élie, Schemaeja, Jehiel et Ozias;
22 des fils de Paschhur, Eljoénaï, Maaséja, Ismaël, Nethaneel, Jozabad et Éleasa.
23 Parmi les Lévites: Jozabad, Schimeï, Kélaja ou Kelitha, Pethachja, Juda et Éliézer.
24 Parmi les chantres: Éliaschib. Parmi les portiers: Schallum, Thélem et Uri.
25 Parmi ceux d’Israël: des fils de Pareosch, Ramia, Jizzija, Malkija, Mijamin, Éléazar, Malkija et Benaja;
26 des fils d’Élam, Matthania, Zacharie, Jehiel, Abdi, Jerémoth et Élie;
27 des fils de Zatthu, Eljoénaï, Éliaschib, Matthania, Jerémoth, Zabad et Aziza;
28 des fils de Bébaï, Jochanan, Hanania, Zabbaï et Athlaï;
29 des fils de Bani, Meschullam, Malluc, Adaja, Jaschub, Scheal et Ramoth;
30 des fils de Pachath Moab, Adna, Kelal, Benaja, Maaséja, Matthania, Betsaleel, Binnuï et Manassé;

1 Now when Ezra had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people wept very sore.
2 And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.
3 Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.
4 Arise; for this matter belongeth unto thee: we also will be with thee: be of good courage, and do it.
5 Then arose Ezra, and made the chief priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they should do according to this word. And they sware.
6 Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Johanan the son of Eliashib: and when he came thither, he did eat no bread, nor drink water: for he mourned because of the transgression of them that had been carried away.
7 And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem;
8 And that whosoever would not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the congregation of those that had been carried away.
9 Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the street of the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain.
10 And Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them, Ye have transgressed, and have taken strange wives, to increase the trespass of Israel.
11 Now therefore make confession unto the Lord God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from the strange wives.
12 Then all the congregation answered and said with a loud voice, As thou hast said, so must we do.
13 But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without, neither is this a work of one day or two: for we are many that have transgressed in this thing.
14 Let now our rulers of all the congregation stand, and let all them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God for this matter be turned from us.
15 Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah were employed about this matter: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.
16 And the children of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain chief of the fathers, after the house of their fathers, and all of them by their names, were separated, and sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.
17 And they made an end with all the men that had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month.
18 And among the sons of the priests there were found that had taken strange wives: namely, of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren; Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah.
19 And they gave their hands that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their trespass.
20 And of the sons of Immer; Hanani, and Zebadiah.
21 And of the sons of Harim; Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah.
22 And of the sons of Pashur; Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethaneel, Jozabad, and Elasah.
23 Also of the Levites; Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah, (the same is Kelita,) Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.
24 Of the singers also; Eliashib: and of the porters; Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.
25 Moreover of Israel: of the sons of Parosh; Ramiah, and Jeziah, and Malchiah, and Miamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.
26 And of the sons of Elam; Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Eliah.
27 And of the sons of Zattu; Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.
28 Of the sons also of Bebai; Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai.

44 All these had taken strange wives: and some of them had wives by whom they had children.
