1 Sayil te majè lè yo te fè l’ wa. Li pase kèk tan ap gouvènen pèp Izrayèl la.

3 Jonatan touye chèf moun Filisti yo ki te rete lavil Gibeya a. Moun Filisti yo vin konn sa. Sayil voye moun kònen twonpèt nan tout peyi a pou avèti pèp ebre a.
4 Nouvèl la gaye nan tout pèp Izrayèl la: Sayil te touye chèf moun Filisti yo. Koulye a moun Filisti yo pa vle wè pèp Izrayèl la. Se konsa tout pèp la vin jwenn Sayil lavil Gilgal, yo kanpe avè l’.
5 Moun Filisti yo menm, bò pa yo tou, sanble pou y’ al atake pèp Izrayèl la. Yo te gen trantmil (30.000) cha lagè, simil (6000) kavalye. Pou sòlda apye menm, moun pa t’ ka konte sa. Ou ta di grenn sab bò lanmè. Yo moute al pran pozisyon bò lavil Mikmas, sou bò solèy leve lavil Bètavenn.
6 Moun pèp Izrayèl yo wè zafè a pa t’ bon pou yo menm. Moun Filisti yo te atake moun pèp Izrayèl yo ak fòs. Pèp Izrayèl la vin pèdi espwa. Sa pa t’ bon menm pou yo. Gen ladan yo ki al kache nan gwòt, nan twou wòch, dèyè gwo wòch, nan pi, nan twou anba tè.
7 Genyen ki menm janbe lòt bò larivyè Jouden an, al nan peyi moun Gad yo ak moun Galarad yo. Sayil menm te lavil Gilgal toujou. Tout moun ki te avè l’ yo t’ap tranble sitèlman yo te pè.
8 Dapre dat Samyèl te fikse ba li a, li rete la sèt jou ap tann Samyèl. Sèt jou yo pase, Samyèl pa vin lavil Gilgal. Pèp la konmanse vire do yo kite Sayil.
9 Lè Sayil wè sa, li di yo: -Mennen bèt pou boule nan dife yo ban mwen ansanm ak lòt ofrann pou mande Bondye padon yo. Epi li fè ofrann pou boule nan dife a.
10 Li t’ap fini fè sèvis ofrann pou boule nan dife a lè Samyèl parèt. Sayil al kontre l’ pou di l’ bonjou.
11 Samyèl di li: -Kisa ou fè konsa? Sayil reponn li: -Mwen wè pèp la t’ap pati kite m’. Ou menm, ou pa t’ vini lè ou te di ou t’ap vini an. Lèfini, moun Filisti yo t’ap sanble bò lavil Mikmas la.
12 Mwen di nan kè m’: Men moun Filisti yo pral vin atake m’ isit la lavil Gilgal, epi mwen pa fè anyen pou mete Seyè a bò kote m’. Se konsa mwen pran sou kont mwen pou m’ fè ofrann bèt pou boule nan dife pou Seyè a.
13 Samyèl di Sayil konsa: -Se bagay moun fou ou fè la a! Ou pa swiv lòd Seyè a, Bondye ou la, te ba ou. Si ou te swiv lòd li, li ta kite ou gouvènen pèp Izrayèl la, lèfini pitit ou yo ta ranplase ou jouk sa kaba.
14 Men koulye a, rèy ou pa la pou lontan. Seyè a pral chache yon lòt moun ki va fè tou sa l’a vle l’ fè, l’a mete l’ chèf sou pèp li a, tou sa paske ou pa t’ swiv lòd Seyè a te ba ou a.
15 Epi Samyèl leve, li kite lavil Gilgal l’ al fè wout li. Tout rès pèp la pran swiv Sayil ki leve al jwenn sòlda li yo. Yo pati kite Gilgal, y’ ale lavil Gibeya nan peyi moun Benjamen yo. Sayil fè enspeksyon lame ki te avè l’ la. Te gen sisan (600) sòlda konsa.
16 Sayil rete nan peyi moun Benjamen yo ansanm ak Jonatan, pitit gason l’ lan, ak moun ki te avè l’ yo. Moun Filisti yo menm pran pozisyon lavil Mikmas.
17 Sòlda Filisti yo soti kote yo te ye a pou y’ al kraze brize. Yo fè twa gwoup. Yon gwoup pran chemen ki mennen lavil Ofra nan peyi Chwal la.
18 Yon lòt gwoup pran chemen ki mennen lavil Bètowon, ak yon lòt gwoup pran chemen ki mennen sou fwontyè a, kote moun ka donminen tout fon Zeboyim lan ale nan dezè a.
19 Lè sa a, nan tan sa a, nan tout peyi Izrayèl la yo pa t’ ka jwenn fòjon paske moun Filisti yo te soti pou pa kite ebre yo fè ni nepe ni lans fè.
20 Se konsa, moun pèp Izrayèl yo te blije al lakay moun Filisti yo pou fè dan chari yo, wou yo, rach yo ak kouto digo yo.
21 Moun Filisti yo te mande yo yon ti pyès ajan pou file chak dan rach epi pou fè pwent frenn yo, de ti pyès ajan pou fè dan chari yo ak pwent wou yo.
22 Se sa ki fè, lè jou batay la rive, pa t’ gen yonn nan mesye ki te avèk Sayil ak Jonatan yo ki te gen yon nepe osinon yon lans fè. Sèl Sayil ak Jonatan, pitit gason l’ lan, te gen yonn pou yo chak.
23 Moun Filisti yo voye yon ganizon al defann pas Mikmas la.

1 Saül était âgé de… ans, lorsqu’il devint roi, et il avait déjà régné deux ans sur Israël.
2 Saül choisit trois mille hommes d’Israël: deux mille étaient avec lui à Micmasch et sur la montagne de Béthel, et mille étaient avec Jonathan à Guibea de Benjamin. Il renvoya le reste du peuple, chacun à sa tente.
3 Jonathan battit le poste des Philistins qui étaient à Guéba, et les Philistins l’apprirent. Saül fit sonner de la trompette dans tout le pays, en disant: Que les Hébreux écoutent!
4 Tout Israël entendit que l’on disait: Saül a battu le poste des Philistins, et Israël se rend odieux aux Philistins. Et le peuple fut convoqué auprès de Saül à Guilgal.
5 Les Philistins s’assemblèrent pour combattre Israël. Ils avaient mille chars et six mille cavaliers, et ce peuple était innombrable comme le sable qui est sur le bord de la mer. Ils vinrent camper à Micmasch, à l’orient de Beth Aven.
6 Les hommes d’Israël se virent à l’extrémité, car ils étaient serrés de près, et ils se cachèrent dans les cavernes, dans les buissons, dans les rochers, dans les tours et dans les citernes.
7 Il y eut aussi des Hébreux qui passèrent le Jourdain, pour aller au pays de Gad et de Galaad. Saül était encore à Guilgal, et tout le peuple qui se trouvait auprès de lui tremblait.
8 Il attendit sept jours, selon le terme fixé par Samuel. Mais Samuel n’arrivait pas à Guilgal, et le peuple se dispersait loin de Saül.
9 Alors Saül dit: Amenez-moi l’holocauste et les sacrifices d’actions de grâces. Et il offrit l’holocauste.
10 Comme il achevait d’offrir l’holocauste, voici, Samuel arriva, et Saül sortit au-devant de lui pour le saluer.
11 Samuel dit: Qu’as-tu fait? Saül répondit: Lorsque j’ai vu que le peuple se dispersait loin de moi, que tu n’arrivais pas au terme fixé, et que les Philistins étaient assemblés à Micmasch,
12 je me suis dit: Les Philistins vont descendre contre moi à Guilgal, et je n’ai pas imploré l’Éternel! C’est alors que je me suis fait violence et que j’ai offert l’holocauste.
13 Samuel dit à Saül: Tu as agi en insensé, tu n’as pas observé le commandement que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’avait donné. L’Éternel aurait affermi pour toujours ton règne sur Israël;
14 et maintenant ton règne ne durera point. L’Éternel s’est choisi un homme selon son coeur, et l’Éternel l’a destiné à être le chef de son peuple, parce que tu n’as pas observé ce que l’Éternel t’avait commandé.
15 Puis Samuel se leva, et monta de Guilgal à Guibea de Benjamin. Saül fit la revue du peuple qui se trouvait avec lui: il y avait environ six cents hommes.
16 Saül, son fils Jonathan, et le peuple qui se trouvait avec eux, avaient pris position à Guéba de Benjamin, et les Philistins campaient à Micmasch.
17 Il sortit du camp des Philistins trois corps pour ravager: l’un prit le chemin d’Ophra, vers le pays de Schual;
18 l’autre prit le chemin de Beth Horon; et le troisième prit le chemin de la frontière qui regarde la vallée de Tseboïm, du côté du désert.
19 On ne trouvait point de forgeron dans tout le pays d’Israël; car les Philistins avaient dit: Empêchons les Hébreux de fabriquer des épées ou des lances.
20 Et chaque homme en Israël descendait chez les Philistins pour aiguiser son soc, son hoyau, sa hache et sa bêche,
21 quand le tranchant des bêches, des hoyaux, des tridents et des haches, était émoussé, et pour redresser les aiguillons.
22 Il arriva qu’au jour du combat il ne se trouvait ni épée ni lance entre les mains de tout le peuple qui était avec Saül et Jonathan; il ne s’en trouvait qu’auprès de Saül et de Jonathan, son fils.
23 Un poste de Philistins vint s’établir au passage de Micmasch.

1 Samuel 13
1 Saul reigned one year; and when he had reigned two years over Israel,
2 Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel; whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in mount Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.
3 And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear.
4 And all Israel heard say that Saul had smitten a garrison of the Philistines, and that Israel also was had in abomination with the Philistines. And the people were called together after Saul to Gilgal.
5 And the Philistines gathered themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea shore in multitude: and they came up, and pitched in Michmash, eastward from Bethaven.
6 When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait, (for the people were distressed,) then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits.
7 And some of the Hebrews went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.
8 And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.
9 And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.
10 And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.
11 And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash;
12 Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the Lord: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.
13 And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.
14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee.
15 And Samuel arose, and gat him up from Gilgal unto Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men.
16 And Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people that were present with them, abode in Gibeah of Benjamin: but the Philistines encamped in Michmash.
17 And the spoilers came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies: one company turned unto the way that leadeth to Ophrah, unto the land of Shual:
18 And another company turned the way to Bethhoron: and another company turned to the way of the border that looketh to the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness.
19 Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel: for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears:
20 But all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock.
21 Yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to sharpen the goads.
22 So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan: but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found.
23 And the garrison of the Philistines went out to the passage of Michmash.
